  • The flick is just dull and boring...other than maybe 5 minutes in the finale in the tunnels...but that's it.
    This movie drew first blood...and I'm the one who draws LAST.
    The Rambo films are my favorite franchise...I love ALL FOUR of them. But this one? Sadly, Rambo: Last Blood is what I feared. A pointless, forgettable affair. The only action of the film is at the last 15 minutes and you saw all of that in the trailers (both the red band and the other trailers).
    One note villains that are forgettable 5 seconds after finishing the movie. Even at 90 minutes this flick was a chore to sit through and I'm one of the biggest Rambo fans out there. This flick doesn't feel like a Rambo film. It's like Sly had a script and then just changed it to Rambo.
    What happens in the first hour? Hell, I'll tell you know (spoilers).
    Rambo tries to save people in a cheap looking flood. He only saves one. Maybe one scene deals with anything PTSD when he is in the tunnels (why he has tunnels when I don't remember one single moment or dialogue in the previous flicks mentioning he was a tunnel rat or such? I have zero idea). The teen girl, who I care nothing for, goes to Mexico to find her dad even after Rambo says it's dangerous AND was told her mother was beaten by the guy. In other words...this girl is a dumb FUCK.
    Girl sees her dad, is taken, Rambo goes down there, gets beaten up, a random journalist finds him who is in the flick for 5 minutes, he heals, kills like 4 people with a hammer which you say in the trailer, gets the girl and the girl dies from drug overdose...thus making the movie even more pointless.
    That's over an hour of the movie...of a fuckin RAMBO movie. You can talk about First Blood but even that had more action (the motorycle chase, fighting the cops in the police station, hunting the officers in the woods) than this.
    Now...the ending. Honestly? People say 'the last 15 minutes' but I would say just like 5 Minutes of the last 15 (in the tunnels) are 'over the top gory fun'.
    Is a movie worth it for 5 minutes? Hell, wait until the film gets on Blu-ray and someone will rip those 5 minutes and put it on youtube. Or just watch the red band trailer which gives it all away.
    Even the score is just recycled music from part 4. And someone told me this was better than part 2 and 3? What?
    FUCK this movie.
    This is cheap direct to video GARBAGE.
    Sly? Please, just retire.

Just an honest opinion and nothing more. Nobody has to agree with your opinion if they don't want to ( sometimes I don't) but it should be respected. Keep it real man and keep up the good work 👍

      I agree, Rambo 4 was all we needed. As much I enjoy film franchises (the James Bond series is my favorite) you can only go so far with certain characters before things get stale. I still wish Sly Stallone all the best, since at the end of the day he is a human being like all of us and everyone makes mistakes now and again.

    I thought the idea that he had dug out tunnels on his property was pretty cool, because in First Blood we saw his survivalist skills going through the caves and he's done that so he's prepared for any threat that's coming, like what happens at the end when they all showed up. He had those trap doors set up so he could pop out and shoot the guys. Soldiers dig fox holes. I don't know. It made sense to me.

    • @ramboraph4life

      Not when at the end of Rambo 4 he went home cause his 'war was over' now. Which they then ditch for these boring dull bullshit of a movie.

      @@ramboraph4life But to the same point, his 'war was over' at the beginning of Rambo III until Trautman's capture pulled him back in. The point of that movie was him 'going full circle' and just accepting that he was born to be a soldier. He's at home when he's at war. He never fit in with civilian life. He even says it in the first film.

    • @ramboraph4life
      @ramboraph4life  5 років тому +7

      But that was the journey of Rambo 4. He went from 'fuck the world' to finally doing something for a good cause by helping the missionaries...thus gearing him up to finally go home. That's the point of the ending of Rambo 4.

    • @kaijusoshingeki7214
      @kaijusoshingeki7214 5 років тому +15

      @@ramboraph4life He's living a simple life at the start of Rambo III, giving away his money from the stick fighting to people and helping rebuild a church. Same in Rambo 4 where he's taking people on boat tours. And this time he's at home on his horse ranch where things have been peaceful for 11 years. He seems to be keeping his PTSD together with pills. But in all 3 of these movies that start off with him being passive, someone getting captured is what turns him back into the soldier he is.
      I just thought that he had made those tunnels over the past 11 years to be able to defend his home if he ever had to. He's been at war most of his life and to believe he just 'turned it off' when he got home is unlikely.

      @@MrCarpen7er Kaiju Soshingeki I totally agree with you. ramboraph4life mentions he went to the cinema to see Rambo last blood he mentioned about the storm at the start of the movie that was cut out of the US release so how did he see that part in the movie, he probably only saw the movie online as a shitty copy. I think he has the brain of a 4-year-old when he does understand about the tunnels, he actually thinks that parts 2, 3 and 4 has a better story he's a joke Rambo last blood might have flaws but its the only story of the franchise that shows the Rambo character growing not just as a soldier but as a human being its showed also that he was a human because he made mistakes, that he can be hurt and can be emotional when the girl who he loves as a daughter is kidnapped, raped and murdered and then after that he goes back to the skills as a soldier a killing machine to get revenge its a different Rambo movie yes also its has more heart to the story than any of the other Rambo movies. The audience score on rotten tomatoes is at 82% this proves that the audience loves this movie.

    Besides the five minutes you spoke of, I loved seeing the pictures of his younger self on the walls of his home, and when he finally rescued her I loved it when he thanked her for giving him hope and her crying before she died. I know that the scene probably means nothing to you (and I can understand that, as well as the rest of your rant), but I love seeing him in that light because he's not just some generic action hero. Here are my criticisms, they didn't explain what happened to Trautman, there DEFINITELY should have been mention of his father (I agree with you on that), my ULTIMATE criticism is that he could had his bandana on his head before the final fight. I understand your rant, though. I might come back and edit my comment to add more thought. Thank you for reading

    7:25 I think bringing in Rambo's father would have been a very interesting idea, especially as the two would have been trying to re-connect after being estranged for so long [and Rambo found an alternative father figure in Colonel Trautman] and could be an interesting contrast if the father was a soldier in the WW2/Korean war. It probably didn't happen as by the time this film was made the father would have had to be in his 90's but it certainly feels like a missed opportunity.

I spoke to a couple of people and they said too there's hardly any action in this movie and this movie is not doing well at the box office. That doesn't sound promising. I'm not gonna waste money on this. Stallone has to stop making crappy sequels. What's next "Stop Or My Mom Will Shoot Part 2". He's so desperate for a hit. Stallone hasn't had a hit movie in years. His time has passed.

I heard this movie is disappointing by Rambo standards. It hardly has any action in it. It only has an action scene at the end. People go to see Rambo movies for it's climatic action scenes. I'm not gonna waste my money on a Rambo movie that hardly has any action. Rambo is not a drama. Also a fifth movie of Rambo was not necessary.

These movies were good in the 80's and 90's but there not good anymore. Especially when they get to part 5, 6 and 7 it just gets ridiculous. I think people in Hollywood should start doing new projects and stop focusing on shitty sequels. Stallone has to do something new. He's not the star anymore like he was in the 80's and 90's. His action movies are not good anymore. Like I said his time has passed.

    If Sly Didn’t made Rambo 5....
    Here’s My Scenario.
    In This Alternate 2000s & 2010s. Sly says That Rocky Balboa & Rambo 2008 is The last of The series.
    After That. He Still makes The Expendables Movies. Only in A smart Way (No CGI, Shakeycam Newbie D-Bags like Rounda Rousey & her fat-Ass moule).
    After That, Stallone Decided to annouced that He Will make Ex-Bagdad With jackie Chan.
    An Allmighty Dream Comes True in This Alternate Universe.
    After Some projects Left.
    Sly Decided to talk about Demolition man, Tango & Cash, Cobra, Etc.
    After Some interviews & re-Relase on Blu-Ray
    Sly announced That He Will Retire From The Movie buisness. However He Will visist Conventions, meet & greets With The fans. Etc.
    That’s My Alternate scenario If Stallone was smart to Never make Those Shitty films in The First Place (No Bullet to The Balls, No Escape plan Movies, No Grudge match, No The Unlikable Adventure of Creed, Crap, Crud. Etc.).

    Nothing happens in the 1st hr? They were building up suspense with drama. I do have mixed feelings about Last Blood. It was not as good as 1-4. Part 5 was just ok. I get the Saw/Home Alone references. But the guy is 70 something years old and they had to make it somewhat believable. It's plausible that Rambo could defeat the cartel with home field advantage. It's the Art of War. Rambo chose the battlefield. He made plans and had the enemy come to his trap. The ending isn't clear because Rambo might have died. He sent the horses away. Where did that horse come from? Rambo rides off "into the sunset". Is he dead or alive? The audience is left to decide similar to "The Wrestler".

    The overall atmosphere of the movie doesn't feel the same as the other Rambo movies. You could tell this was the case from the trailers though.

    I'm a huge Sly fan, he's been my idol growing up as I battled bipolar & depression because his films always delivered hope about overcoming the odds & always had a inspirational message, however this film was very dark & depressing & didn't feel like a Rambo movie at all to me, Sly lost the plot.
    Rambo fought wars, eventually comes home finds peace & a niece who he loves like a daughter & he gets fucked over, at the end of the film what's he got? Nothing he's just left a broken man.....shocking!!!!
    The scene were he walks straight into the cartels & gets beat up was bollocks, Rambo would've tooled up & stealthily took em out not waltzed through the front door.
    My Rambo journey concludes with Rambo 4 which is the perfect closure for the character, I won't be adding Last Blood to my collection.

    We have our opinions and like you said we had rights to have them, I enjoyed Rambo Last Blood and I Enjoyed Ghostbusters afterlife, the action at the end of last blood was very well done, same for the scene where he pops that Mexican dude’s collar bone out was brutal and made me flinch a lot (my shoulder was numb for a week). As for Ghostbusters afterlife, I loved watching it with my mom and seeing the original ghostbusters come back but done right this time (unlike the 2016 film) was very well done (in my opinion) I did cry at the end I will admit that, I also cried at last blood’s ending. Stallone is a good actor and a good writer, now I know I can’t say anything about the movie that was awesome besides the ending, but I will say that I liked how we see all the stuff he had from Vietnam even his machete from Rambo 4 was awesome to see, the knives he’s made were amazing to look at and see in action, the scene that gets me every time I watch the movie, was the collarbone torture scene and the Hotel or brothel raid scene when he goes MC hammer on their asses. The vibes I got with the ending were like saw type stuff, but for a revenge movie I enjoyed it a lot and I thought I was good somewhat, you have your opinion and I have mine but I will agree Rambo 4 was a good ending to the character since there was really nothing left for him, I do wish he made a comic book or something where we meet his dad like you said. Rambo last blood was a good time to watch in a way, the tunnel scene where he tortures the cartel was very well done, even the scene where he rips the guy’s heart out I enjoyed. But yeah that’s my take on it.

    You can find a treatment dated 2004 called 'Rambo: Holy War' which seems to have been an unsolicited proposal to attract studio/Stallone's interest which would have involved Rambo fighting terrorists but it went nowhere. Noticeably the back story is that Rambo marries a doctor and adopts the kid from Rambo 3 so hence has a family which is not something seen in the series [and bar Co in 2, there's no romance]. I do wonder if the Gabriella was meant to be Rambo's daughter/granddaughter at one stage but was changed.

    THANK YOU Matt for an honest review, amongst all of your other honest reviews. This movie sucked ! I'm a huge Rambo fan too and this was an embarrassment. First, Stallone made NO effort to make himself look like Rambo. I understand he's had plugs but do SOMETHING to have a different hairstyle than the everyday. Second, they tried to make this look like a culturally relevant Taken movie with Rambo. A series from generations passed with a modern twist. His domestic situation had no background, I agree. The mailbox at the end of 4 left everyone to believe that his father was home and they would reunite. Would be great to see his dad or what happened to his dad, at all. I had to rewatch it to even understand where the two people living there even came from. The tension of all of the Rambo films is him reaching the point of no return. There was nothing here like that because the entire teen goes to Mexico thing wasn't necessary. It wasn't believable. When he announced the premise of the film way back I knew immediately it would suck because it strived to go relevant, poorly. I hope this is his stopping point. I measure a movie not by RT bot reviews but by how fast it goes to Amazon Prime streaming. This one was pretty quick, like Last Jedi. Everyone has a review and many do in fact hate it, but they are afraid to say it because they can't take the criticism thus it breeds more crap reviews. Thanks for having the balls to be honest. I too do not understand how anyone can rank this even close to the others. Apparently we didn't get our Jim Jones Kool Aid powder packet in the mail.

    The film wasn't perfect but genuinely solid with a terrific performance by Stallone,he is 73 now and is still able to have a physical presence.
    The scene where he goes to rescues Gabrielle was fantastic, he was really a hero in that moment even trying to save all those other girls but they refuse in fear of being caught and killed.
    the 3rd act was balls to the wall action that was truly satisfying and what Rambo does to the main villain was so violent i couldn't believe my eyes loved every second of the final battle.
    Cons:
    The score is great but recycled from all the other films particularly Rambo (2008)
    You hate the villains for the scum they are but beyond that they weren't all that developed.
    The biggest issue i have with the film is something i cant quite put my finger on as if it lacks an essential ingredient or something but it doesn't quite feel like a Rambo film, i dont like 3 but even that felt like a Rambo film.
    Overall, solid but flawed conclusion to a solid action franchise.
    Best to worst: 4,2,1,5,3
    Like all Rambo films except 3 which sucked.

      Sorry but the 'rescue' of Gabrielle I thought was boring & lame. To me it's a very dull flick and boring. A few moments in the third act does not save the movie. Stallone wasn't even that good in it in my opinion. To each their own.

      @@aligunes207 Presence? Sure. But he needs better scripts and sad to say but he i just Too Old to do this stuff anymore. That's not a knock against him. That's just sadly the true facts of age itself...and this was not a good script even for an action flick. Or at least take more exciting scripts. Do stuff in the vein of Cop Land, or Mandy that Nic Cage did, or hell even a film like Searching with John Cho because he is a Good Actor. But don't just keep regurgitating these franchise.

    It was not 5 minutes in the tunnel. It was way more. The movie built up nice to it. And the action was spread out. This was Stallone's Logan man. You don't get it Raph. It's ok if you don't like it, but it was a good movie.

    • @ramboraph4life
      @ramboraph4life  5 років тому +4

      No, it was about 5 minutes in the tunnels (not including the boring 'lead bad guy running from explosions which had bad cgi when it showed the surface'). But the actual 'hunting people' was about 5 minutes. When you get the blu-ray feel free to time it out. And sorry but no, the action was not 'spread out' when nothing happens in the first hour. After that a middling/forgettable 'hammer sequence' which I felt nothing. The drama was weak, the story was a lame wannabe Taken 4, the villains were instantly forgettable, the score was just a retread of Rambo 4's score, the supporting cast (the teen girl, the journalist) I didn't care one iota about and that's pretty much it. Sly wasn't even that great in it. Sorry but in my opinion the film sucks ass and it further shows that Stallone should just retire.

    Brian Tyler recycled a lotta the othemes from the previous one but what else should he have done? There were some weird tracks on the list but Goddamn, Dusk was the perfect one for the outro! Fatalism is great too. I like most of ‘em!
    That’s all I like about this movie. Nothin’ more. The fourth was the better ending.

    Watching Rambo again and my thoughts have not changed. Unnecessary and unneeded? Yes absolutely but I liked it. The story from what I gathered was Rambo has been somewhat civilized and lived a normal life till the death of his daughter who he has been raising. As someone who has been raising a little one myself I bought into the story and felt sorry for Rambo when she died and wanted Rambo to slaughter the cartel. Idk if Stallone wrote it but if he directed it I think It could have been better.

    • @ramboraph4life
      @ramboraph4life  5 років тому

      Have to disagree with you on that. I didn't give one iota of crap about the girl dying...there was no reason for me to like her or care about her. I think it was a piss poor story trying to be Taken 4 & done badly with a horribly boring first half. To each their own.

      @@ramboraph4life now the taken thing I agree. Granted apparently the story was in development around 2010 which was when the taken movies were popular. So it was a product of it's time. Boring first half yeah compared to the other Rambo films. At least they tried to build it up. The movie so short it kinda just sped through things I wanted to know lol like what happened to his father? Etc.
