I’m a fan of alien and aliens since I saw them on hbo at 5 36 years ago and I’ve been waiting for a third movie and I was ten seeing this dud in theaters and disappointed even it sucks in its assembly cut. Fincher disowned this movie for a reason as he went on and made better films. This movie was early last Jedi for the franchise as the franchise never recovered from this and to me the dark horse comics are the only true sequels to aliens

Alien 3 was not only one of the worst sequels and horror films ever made. It was the sequel that STARTED the horrible cliche of fucking over great characters in previous films, examples of more that would do this were Laurie in HALLOWEEN: RESURRECTION, Han, Luke, and Leia in the Disney STAR WARS trilogy, John Connor in Dark Fate, Dante, Becky, and their baby in CLERKS III, and many more.
I was literally just thinking about this classic the other day wow… this is an awesome treat to see this up again. Videos like this made you a frikin legend
People who defend Alien 3 don’t respect Aliens. Alien Resurrection is much more faithful to the established narrative from 2 and 3 and don’t kill off any character from the get go.
What I don't understand (and probably will never understand) is why Weaver gets off scot-free when she was given a LOT of control over the film, as evidenced by her co-producer credit and enormous salary. I think the actual filmmaking on display is great (Goldenthal's score is exquisite and the acting is top-notch), but it was in the service of a mortally flawed narrative, for which Weaver deserves her share of blame. I wonder if Fincher regrets directing Alien 3 and refuses to talk about it due to the awful story, not just because he was badly treated by Fox. In retrospect, I have no idea how the film even got past the treatment phase since it's founded on killing-off Hicks, Newt, and Bishop (for all intents and purposes). I used to cheerlead for the film, as I once had a nasty nihilistic streak, but it has greatly soured as I get older. I can't think of a film franchise that so effectively stabbed the back of its preceding entry, though Terminator: Dark Fate comes terrifyingly close.
Alien 3 is flawed but a worthwhile movie. Dark and nihilistic, bringing Ripley's hellish journey to a beautiful close. Never had an issue with the casualties. Life sucks, then you die... the nature of the universe. 🤷 Besides, after what Cameron did to John Connor in Dark Fate(it was his idea to kill him off), I feel even less sympathetic to his characters' death in Alien 3.

Can’t say I’m a big fan of this franchise. Original “Alien” was interesting till Kane’s death. Then became a slasher, not even good one. People stood in place, stared at drooling jaws. No fightning, no gore. Monster was rarely shown. Sigourney was great in her role, though. “Aliens” was a bit better film. Some parts were too dark, imo. Never really cared about little girl or any characters, except Ripley. “Alien 3” was bland and boring. I don’t hate it, but just - meh. Most prisoners looked alike. Death of Ellen was a right choice, made the character more real. Couldn’t fight xenomorphs forever.
