Good stuff Ive been following you for a while now (no! not in IRL that would be creepy) youre gonna blow up soon. (not a threat! I mean figuratively, of course )
I just discovered this song today -- heard it on a random french radio station while traveling through Vancouver on the way to an emergency dentist appointment for my son. Kinda glad the universe waited until the middle of a pandemic and a stressful situation to surprise me with something so awesome and upbeat. I'm going to be checking out more now. But not until this song is threadbare.
If I had a dollar for every time I've played this song, enjoyed its heartfelt lyrics, and sublime musical stylings, I'd be able pay my way through law school, and the tune has only been out for two days. Everyone can relate to one of the characters described in Andy's cerebral universe, whether it be the bashful and quietly jealous narrator, the "perfect" couple of Charlie and Judy, or the ex who is back in town and unexpectedly runs into to the person they used to call their own. I, for one, relate to the narrator. In the most cautiously optimistic way, I feel like Andy knows that while, maybe the relationship he values will never re-materialize, he can still smile at the girl he once loved. The line "she makes me laugh, oh, how she makes me laugh" after the exchange regarding his coat sleeve is so earnest, modest, and, most of all, relatable. I know I've said stupid things to people I love, to the point where I know what Andy means when he inexplicably describes the burning in his ears after misinterpreting someone's words. If you've made it to the end of this, thank you. It's hard to put into words just how brilliantly introspective and impactful Andy's music is. I never like to wish away the days, but I'd be completely satisfied if I woke up tomorrow and it was January 24th, 2020.
Damn. I felt this looking at the ceiling by myself and just imagining that one day, maybe one day someone will explain the feeling I felt hearing this. Thank you !
Hope you could come to #Mexico . I discovered your music almost two years ago with Early to the party and i listened all your albums. Then one friend of mine put To Be with Foxwarren months ago and inmediately knew where you. Glad you are back!
CBC raido has introduced me to so many artist over the year. I was drawn to the melody and heartful lyrics of this song. Such a pleasure to hear you, Andy.
This is beautiful, Andy. I've followed your career since you first posted your early tunes on bmxboard and I've always been a huge fan. Thanks for making me cry (again).
Never knew I could enjoy clarinet so much! Then I started listening to Andy Shauf. Thanks for continuing to make wonderful music. I’m very excited for this album.
Album confirmed banger, although, we wouldn't have needed to hear any of the tracks before it's release to know that Andy would come through with the greatness
Exactly 2 years ago I've been at Andy's show in London and that was one of the best concerts I've ever attended. I love how delicate the clarinet sounds in this song.
'Try Again' is definitely one to put a smile on your face! Lyrically his songs are almost always bittersweet/melancholic (or downright sad), but many of the songs are musically upbeat. Try these (if you haven't already): ua-cam.com/video/ndlb4fic-eQ/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/K3rEbhklaBE/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/Tq0mop3YvzM/v-deo.html
Why do you come in Paris during holidays on next April ? So disappointed... I will be far and... sad. It will be a good idea if you sing at my office, there is a beautiful auditorium. If you are interested I can ask my boss. Thank you so much for your delicate music and lyrics. Saw you with 2 colleagues and good friends at la Maroquinerie with Foxwarren : great great moment !
@Heart of a Blackbird If your nickname is referencing that great Elliott Smith song (a distorted Reality...), then I love you. But Andy is not ES , very different more Jazzy, more Burt Bacharach. The Beatles, that they have in common.
"And somewhere between drunkenness and honesty, I make a silent toast to the things that I do and don’t miss. " At some point I started singing "Somewhere between loneliness and honesty," ...and now I think I might like that better. It's such a beautiful song though 👌🏾👏🏾
New album 'The Neon Skyline' is out January 24 on ANTI- Records / Arts & Crafts (CA). Pre-order Now at andyshauf.ffm.to/theneonskyline.

@@anthonyarmstrong1460 I heard The Party being explained in an interview on NPR randomly lol it's like Andy's discovered on the fly or something!
aaaand yet another perfect song from Andy Shauf. An absolutely brilliant artist.

Genuine talent, i love his music, i listen it everyday.
I really really love this song and can’t stop listening to it but the way I have to say “try” as I sing along makes me giggle every single time.

Andy, you know you're the greatest, right?
So he's coming back 4 years later for telling us he's still stuck at that party? Ok i take it.
Ha ha ha ha.
That's what I thought on first listen when the single dropped. Was pleased to discover it's toward the end of an album-long story about an ex
heard this song for the first time today and now i'm obsessed.
I'm going through that right now!
Stumbled across this gem by accident. So glad I did.... It's like opening a window in a dark room and letting the sunshine in... 🙂 🌟

Believe In The Sound yep
Thought the same thing when I first heard
The vocal melody screams songs like Graceland, yeah.
Yes. I bought There Goes Rhymin' Simon on vinyl back in the '70s and this sent me right back there, in the best way.
First ten seconds already almost made me tear up what the hell
❤️❤️❤️
More perfect alt-pop. Happy. :0)
Good music
My current favorite song

The Party was amazing, and this sounds like it will be too

"And somewhere between drunkenness and honesty, I make a silent toast to the things that I do and don’t miss. "
At some point I started singing "Somewhere between loneliness and honesty," ...and now I think I might like that better. It's such a beautiful song though 👌🏾👏🏾
Yay!! New music from Andy: the perfect gift! How did you know it's my birthday in three weeks! :0)
Somewhere between drunkenness and chivalry
I hold the door open and let her pass through
She says thanks to me in a British accent
And I try to answer her in the same voice
She laughs at me, says, "What was that supposed to be?"
I say, "I'm sorry, I'm from a different part of the country"
She says, "Come on baby, try again"
"Come on baby, try again"
Somewhere between drunkenness and sincerity
I smile at her for just a little too long
Charlie's drinking wine, Judy's laughing at him
She says, "I forget that you're such a fancy guy"
He tips his hat, says "M'lady, do you come here often?"
I swear I've seen them do this one a hundred times before
Come on baby, try again
Come on baby, try again
Somewhere between drunkenness and charity
She puts her hand on the sleeve of my coat
She says "I've missed this, " I say, "I know, I've missed you too"
She says, "I was actually talking about your coat"
She makes me laugh, oh how she makes me laugh
I just let my head sink down and fake some deep sobs
Come on baby, try again
Come on baby, try again
Somewhere between drunkenness and jealousy
I watch her talking to some old friend
What a reunion, he recognized her across the room
How many years could there be to catch up on?
And somewhere between drunkenness and honesty
I make a silent toast to the things that I do and don't miss
Come on baby, try again
Come on baby, try again
Come on baby, try again
Come on baby, try again
