A valiant effort from Russ but it’s sadly no substitute for the original version from Joe Henderson which is still fresh even now.

Yes, probably the case. More one of his later 'throw away' recordings. Laurie Holloway also did a nice version in the 1970s.

Well logic usually (but not always) dictates that the original artist's version is the best. Russ should have been able to do better in any case, but I suspect that age and condition had caught up with him in this case. Maybe he did a better cover version in the late 1950s or early 1960s? ​@@IVORIESMAN
