An interesting recording Steve, significant for its bland accompaniment unfortunately. Geoff Love come back, all is forgiven...

Well, Joe, it wasn't particularly 'unfortunate' for RC as he had made his millions years earlier and his reputation carried it through, just as it does now. A slightly later version by Laurie Holloway was much better and more musically complex, but his name was not as big as RC' so it did not do so well. Now that was 'unfortunate' ... for Holloway. Love would have spiced it up I'm sure, but I don't think anyone could have improved on the original Horst Jankowski version anyway.

@@wordsmith52 …I was intrigued so had a flick through and found an album with this as the first track - “A Walk in the Black Forest/The Best of Russ Conway”.
It was issued in 1973 on Pulse which was a subsidiary of Castle Music associated with Pye who Russ was recording for at the time.
All the tracks were recorded in 1973 including re-recordings of some of his early mega hits.

Yes, 1973 ... and re-issued under various guises as a CD compilation. Probably against the Trade Descriptions Act because it was not his "best" ... lol! Laurie Holloway's version was much better but was spoiled by silly background chorus / singing of 'la lal las". Might upload it anyway at some stage for posterity.

Love Russ, but hate the Pye stuff!

Yes, I understand, but there will be some more to come (as I've got no more others at present to upload)! You never know, there might be one that escaped your critical ears and which you might like a bit more ... lol!

Sadly apart from "The Boy Friend" medleys, there is nothing much else of note.
