I test rode a Ducati monster once and it had a similar self retracting arrangement. I thought perhaps that it was part of Italian regulations. In any case, any side stand will let you down if you park it on the slightest downward incline. So best to turn it round and park uphill. The ground is not always level enough to use the centre stand. On these occasions, the only choice is the side stand. But always uphill.
Again company's have to be responsible for morons that forget to ride off with the side stand up. If you go for your learners or license in Australia and do that you instantly fail before you get anywhere. And rightly so! What other stupid things are you gonna do on your bike if you can't remember to put the stand up. This mod is great and logical! I'll be doing it. thank you.
I regret buying a 2020 primavera. Watching some videos about rust issues. I found rust spots as well underneath and in the battery compartment. Piaggio never do things correctly anymore
Would removing one of the 2 springs makes the side stand not to self retract yet still hold up after retracted? Wanted an option that would not void the Vespa's warranty. Thanks.
Jesse Chew don't think one spring would hold the stand up firmly enough ! Also with two fitted there's a bit of a safety net should one of them snap ! The only way to stop the stand self retracting is to move the top spring mount in front of the pivot point.
Just WTF can't Vespa after all these years of making these scooters, develop a simple side stand that is functional & works properly & holds the scooter up properly without fear of it falling over? These side stands are entirely useless & dangerous. Want a wrecked Vespa, use the side stand.

@@madisonscott4677 I have a 2018 GTS 300 Super. The body is good, no rust so far but I have heard many accounts of rust on Vespa scooters. It is the accessories like the small sport windscreen bolts & racks (Vespa OEM) that are showing signs of rust. I guess I got lucky with a solid paint job/body prep but I am upset about the expensive Vespa accessories rusting so quickly.
Not if used with some common sense, I've owned loads of bikes and the side stands on them are always a bit iffy. Wouldn't recommend leaving any two wheeler on the side stand for any length of time ... but this modification makes it safer 😉
@@dominus1708 So please please please don't do the modification, didn't I make the risk clear enough in the video ? Do we really need protecting from ourselves that much lol !!
@@dominus1708 I've disabled the sidestand cut out on a few of my bikes for various reasons and unfathhomably I am still alive. Of course its obviously a near certainty that I'll forget and die in a horrific fireball caused by forgetting the basic checks after 30 years of riding. Cheers Fenner-G, saved me much swearing and crying when the inevitable happened.

Just take the top spring holder for newer models for switch they cost arround 10 euro and does the trick no drilling fits like is

You sure are sad that this Vespa was not rusted?

@@madisonscott4677 ;-D, sure as being only 64, you sure are already 87! What about your rusting Vespa, how is she? ;-D
if you turn the spring around it will hold a little better up because I se the old post is bending your spring
Only bent spring fractionally and stand alway stayed up solid, pleased you adapted it to suit you 👍
i did this from your video but i turned the spring around the other direction and I put the bolt a little higher than you did
