It’s interesting. This man won the US civil war. Robert E. Lee was touted as being an honorable man and an American aristocrat. But he fought to uphold evil, while Grant fought on behalf of the common good. Robert E. Lee was an evil person, mass murdering as many as he could to keep slavery alive. Grant fought him mercilessly and resolutely. Grant was the quintessential common man, a true American. In the end he was the honorable one. Lee was a low down dog and should be forgotten.

You tout as if you knew Grant. You know nothing. They were both evil in their own ways

@@QuentinSmith-u4c maybe. But one was a traitor and fought to keep human beings enslaved. Slavery in including rape, torture, and working humans to their very deaths. Literally killed thousands of people to that end. The other did not. Honor is as honor does.

As an "original transcon rr" fan, I enjoy studying Grant, as he figured heavily in it's construction. And, when UP Vice Pres. Thomas Durant wanted to fire Grenville Dodge, as Chief Engineer and put in his own crooked crony, Grant, Sherman, and other prominent men of that era, appeared on behalf of Dodge. Grant had just accepted nomination for President. A.J. Russell took two photos at Fort Sanders, WY., which show these men in an excellent 'compose. Durant looks chastised, and Grant is framed in the door way of the Officers Club "looking the picture of determination". Grant had declared, that the RR will be completed under direction of his friend, Dodge....quite an interesting drama, played out in July 1868...104 degrees, and all are in their 'best. Thanks.

[ ' Grant had begun his service with the intention of leaving the army as soon as possible, likely to teach mathematics.[5] Before the end of his term, however, the United States went to war with Mexico over disputes involving Texan independence.[6] Although he fought and distinguished himself in the war, Grant considered the Mexican War “one of the most unjust ever waged by a stronger against a weaker nation.”[7] He thought that the war “was an instance of a republic following the bad example of European monarchies, in not considering justice in their desire to acquire additional territory.”

No big difference. He lived so long ago. The 1930’s seems ancient and that was nearly 60 years after his presidency
