  • In this video I restore and colourise a photograph of Abraham Lincoln in Photoshop and reveal the secret he kept most close to his heart...A secret that even he was unaware he kept!
    This photograph was taken just a few months from the end of the American Civil War and President Lincoln's life. It was really interesting for me to work on a photograph which so closely captures a mid point of history.
    In this particular video I more closely show my working method for obtaining accurate skin tones in Photoshop.
    For more information on the watch story featured in this video. An article on it can be found here:

    I'll also link to a colourisation of Mrs Mary Todd Lincoln by a fellow Reddit user (Klimbim) I was originally going to do a Mr and Mrs Lincoln video, with two colourisations, but Klimbim's work was so good it put me off the idea! ha ha

    Super interesting background information as well as remarkable colorization skill. Lincoln aged tremendously from what I gather due to the war and we are very fortunate to have preserved so many pictures of this U.S. President.

      @@JBColourisation I just did a colorization of an old family photo which came out excellent. I've followed other channels their tutorials were not as precise. Truly very much appreciated. Done on a pro level.
      As for suggestions, I'm sure as I go through the rest of our photos, something may pop up that hasn't been covered yet. Your projects are truly inspiring. Thank you!

    Besides your colouring phenomenal techniques, I'd like to know how to make the same type of vintage looking background as that one in Abraham picture. Thanks a lot and please keep up your excellent work.

      Thank you very much! I've actually been really curious about how these Photographs were originally taken and how to also replicate them using Photoshop and such, it's certainly something i'll be looking at exploring in potential future videos! :)

    James, Thank you for our respect to past President Lincoln.
    The background information about the watch is incredible; marks by watchmakers in time.
    Please tell me the repair and color program you use for me to repair family photographs.
    Please consider Teddy Roosevelt as a soldier; I'm still serving in the military and he's my favorite president. As he'd say: 'That's Bully!'
    Thanks, James. What you do is magical. Regards, Keith.

    Hey James, great videos! I recently started colorizing photos and one of the biggest problems I have is layering skin tones. I can get my base tone, but as I try to add the reds and oranges and blues on top of it, I can't get it to blend properly. I tried using a soft brush with low opacity and a 5px blur and the edge of the brush strokes are still clearly visible. I noticed you used quite hard brush strokes with a 55px blur and it turns out so nicely. Is 55px your standard? How do you figure out how much blur to use?

    • @JBColourisation
      @JBColourisation  3 роки тому +1

      Hi thanks very much! I don't tend to have any particular value that I stick to when it comes to blurring, although I would say i tend to stay somewhere within maybe a 30-150 range for the blur settings? I think being slightly on the higher end of blur is better than lower, particularly when you can erase parts again by painting black in the layer mask with an incredibly soft brush. With layering skin tones a lot of it is just down to practice and and I even now have more trial and error than I'd like with my own process. I'm sure you'll get much happier with your skin tones as you have more experience :)

      Aprecio que obviamente no es tan bueno como estar en el propio idioma de alguien, pero siempre me aseguro de que mis videos tengan subtítulos manuales precisos. de modo que, con suerte, la función de traducción de Google funciona con cierta precisión para las personas. Gracias por tu comentario, James. Abraham looks to me like he is of 100% Mixed ethnicity, the 1st thing that's most noticeable to make me feel this way is His Hair It Most Definitely Looks To Have A 100% Ruff Texture. White people don't have hair like his.
