Not only was this a great song but it was also one of the most underated movies of all time. An incredible love story with a truly amazing performance by Lynn Holly Johnson, I think worthy of an oscar!
Saw this movie in 1979 on an SAS flight from Seattle to Copenhagen the summer after my dad died to visit family. I was 9 years old. Fell in love with Robby & the song. Still remember so well. 🥰
They don't write songs like this any more because they can't. Our songs used to mean something. The lyrics weren't used to express our basest instincts, but to make us think about others' feelings. Love triumphed over hate. Melissa Manchester was an incredibly talented songwriter, singer and pianist. Watching the movie "Ice Castles" gives true meaning to the title of this song: "Looking Through The Eyes Of Love." It really tugs on the heart strings.
Thank you for your very insightful words. Back then, there was certainly a lot less emphasis on the self than today. This self-emphasis is the death of love, and it's gradually unmaking everything we understood about life and living from back in our days. (These, truly, are not our days... and all we may ever have of our sweeter times is just their memories.)
Its a differnt sound back theb. Today they lost the know how, to make music, they cant do it. Today persist on, money, looks, and fame, with no talent. Back then they had heart and soul.
What a prolific composer of such great memories. I have been moved emotionally so many times by his incredible music. Rest in peace, indeed, Mr. Hamlisch. Thank you for your many gifts. This is my all time favorite tune. It helped me when I was a teen.
I hear ya I wish I could take back every time I would say to my mother that I cannot wait unitl I turn 18, and I can do whatever I want and you will not be able to stop me..However, for me I got my wish way sooner than expected due to my mother passing away when I was 16 ,and then my dad remarried not long afterwards ..I got my wish alright because I ended living in our family home by myself wishing that I had my mother back bossing me around..All of the things that I wanted to do ended up not being so fun after all..But that's life. I survived and I now have a husband and a 16 yr old son that is running his mouth about wanting his freedom..Lol I just tell him to be careful what you wish for because the grass is not always greener on the other side of the fence..
A most beautiful song I still like to hear. I wonder at times why is it we no longer have songs like this one. These old songs were more sentimental, and much better that what is being made today. The lyrics are nice and no dirty or vulgar words or slang is used. Besides it is feelings not just sex, what makes love the wonderful experience it can be. And this song expresses it so well..
My grandma loved this song. She passed away being 88 on April 2017. RIP grandma, I love you and thanks for your love with all my family, the good moments I lived with you during my childhood and your advices that inspired me for life.
Melissa Manchester was an is still my favorite Disco era Queen. I know this song by heart and let me tell you when I sing it a karaoke I get more than a few raised eyebrows at first then I sing it thru and the crowd generally goes insane, all the nuance and feeling comes shining thru me.God Bless you Ms. Manchester
I hear this song and I cry and get chills. I was a figure skater then too. Seems a bit corny now but I loved Robby Benson and the movie was just so darn amazing!!
Unfortunately, the hardened attitude in songs is truly where most people are today. Vulgarity, slang and coarseness are the norm. This song is an era. Ms. Manchester was first class. She sang in the style of Judy Garland, in the sense that her voice was bigger than she was. She flowed with the emotions of the song and it just grabs your heart.
"We forgot about the flowers " Robbie benson "Don't go, stay" Lynn Holly Johnson "You betcha" Robbie Benson This movie definitely plucked at ur heart strings. My sister (who has since passed on- Renee) watched this with me on HBO. Never forget this one. Definitely worth a watch. Thanks Renee
This was the first movie I felt in love with (I was only 4 yrs old), and the first song I also fell in love with........so much ........that I was able to play it by myself in a piano...by ears, no classes in piano yet............my best memories!!! Thanks for this gift!!
"Looking Through The Eyes Of Love" recorded in 1978 released 1979. A truly beautiful and timeless song of unconditional and true love. The first time I heard it in 1979 it tugged on my heart strings and brought a tear to my eyes. It's 2024 and still does!
A perfect beautiful song. How did this not win all kind of words. Marvin Hamlish and melissa manchester a perfect combo along with carole bayer sager. I admit i tear up listening to this. It's also an uplifting song as well.
Yes, the 'remake' couldn't hold a match to it, let alone a candle. Loved Robbie Benson also. He played such a different as well as beautiful role in The Chosen w/Ruben Miller and Rod Steiner. Who'd have thought he would one day voice Beast in Disney's animated movie?
I remember watching this when small on 'tv and humming this for ages and having a picture of lynn Holly Johnson on my bedroom wall . when she did bond a few years later with that beautiful smile she had,but it this film that she is brilliant in and music is outstanding one of the best skating movies.
One of my favorite childhood memory one of my favorite movie"s "Ice Castle" and the sound track Llooking through the eyes of love." So beautiful song and movie.
After many years, I simply cannot pick my favorite piece between the dynamic "Looking Through the Eyes of Love" and the precious "Can You Read My Mind" .... in the hands of the two great artists, they are equally superb ...
This one is beautiful the lyrics are wonderful and express how real love can be. I like the way the singer sang this song with the heart, and so she makes one feel it. The film' story was beautiful too and it is a film worth seeing, now 50 years later it is not outdated in any way
I watched it when we borrowed cd last april 2016.. we watched it and we memorized looking through the eyes of love.. we sang this song in videoke.. i love this movie..
Amost beautiful song and one of my favorites for nearly forty years now. It is sung with such feeling and depth a better theme could not have been made for the film. The film is very good to showing if we are willing to try hard we can overcome even our own limitations and can get what we want to. Very good film for young people.
Here is a fantastic singer who never got her just dues. MM has a bold singing voice yet she has a good range. Love you MM and have you albums that I still play when I want to hear meaningful music. Thank you so much. With great respect and love.
Beth Russo My wife and I made a wedding reception video recap of this song in 1990 and time to time we look back and say GOD times have changed THE GOOD OLD DAYS drinking age 18 and some states 19 heeeeeeeeha
Such a lovely song sung by a wonderful talent!! Miss Manchester seems to have been underrated for some reason as imo she has not been lauded as much as her talent deserves.
When I was young , I love this song so much , I watched this movie in 19.....(can't remember). This year I'll be fifty-six , I think I love this song more than before .
Still Listening and Loving this song in 2022. I sang it for a friend of mines wedding 15 yrs or so ago and it’s STILL as Beautiful now as it was back then 🥰🥰🥰🥰
This was the movie that my sisters repeatedly watched in the late 70s if my memory serves me right. This somehow made a big impact among pinoy teeners at that time and made the Ali Mall Skating Rink popular.
Not only was this a great song but it was also one of the most underated movies of all time. An incredible love story with a truly amazing performance by Lynn Holly Johnson, I think worthy of an oscar!
I agree , lynn holly was incredible in this movie!
I agree with you 💯
Great movie, yes. Oscar worthy, not so much.

Sam It depends what you listen to. There's a lot of good music out there, no matter the time period.
My wife sang this to me at our wedding 15 wonderful years ago and I,m still helplessly in love with her today !!!
What a beautiful memory…. I’m so glad I had the chance to experience the good Ol days.
I have finally found the love of my life at the age 45..... I want this song played as my song to walk down the aisle too...

It hurts when you realize those days are dead and gone.....i always thought that being young would last forever. I never had a care in the world......

Wish I had a time machine to take me back to the late 70s.. This movie from my childhood and this song.. Epic.. In so many ways... Sigh
Some amazing music , it’s surreal now . I’ve aged but I remember it all so clearly.

@@stonegasman3866 Well this song didn't lose to Last Dance, which was a great song for the era, but to It Goes Like It Goes from Norma Rae.
