Melissa Manchester without a doubt one of the most underrated singer/songwriter of her generation. The woman was the complete package and what a showman. Here catalog is masterful and getting just her "Greatest Hits" will only be a tease, her early out of print albums clearly define the artist. Is about time that a full "Remastered Anthology" of her work is finally released.

I stopped listening to the radio around 1980 when music like this seemed to disappear. Now thank goodness I still have these oldies. Melissa Manchester really knew how to sell it heart and soul. Another I know by heart.
I totally agree with you! A few years ago, I saw her perfom in Niagara Falls and was completely blown away by her amazing live performance.....people do not understand how much she has contributed to the modern pop music canon of the 1970's, and how her talent continues to influence a new generation.
Melissa Manchester is an American singer-songwriter and actress. She celebrated her 70th birthday on Monday February 15, 2021 Manchester was born (1951) in the Bronx, a borough of New York City, to a musical family. Her father was a bassoonist for the New York Metropolitan Opera. Her mother was one of the first women to design and found her own clothing firm. I am here for the same reason. This is one of my old karaoke torch songs. But it really does seem like something Dan Levy would listen to when getting over a breakup, lol.
I would not have discovered this song if not for watching Schitt's Creek. Boy am I happy I stopped procrastinating about that even if just for this beautiful song. Wow!
OLD SONGS always bring back good memories of our past... those were the days when Songwriters have high moral standards for their chosen words/lyrics that remain/stay in our thoughts and hearts... that often give encouragement, hope, trust, lesson learned, and love.
OMG I watched this on the Muppet show when I was in me kindergarten years, 25 odd years ago!!!!!! I cant believe they have the video now on YT!!! Love live YT!!! Thank you for bringing back those sweet sweet VHS memories, Ralph, my favourite muppet and all those wonderful guests. Melissa Manchester, Linda Rondstadt, all wonderful memories.
I remember seeing her sing this on the Muppets as a little girl. It made me cry…Still makes me cry, because I miss being a little girl and I lived this life
Written by her friend from Australia, the late Peter Allen and Carole Bayer Sager. I actually discovered Peter Allen last night for the first time I love his version of this song too!! I actually saw and met Melissa a few years ago in Philadelphia! She was so sweet and she put on an awesome concert. This song was included in the set and she sang it beautifully! She and I had the same curly hair, we were twins that night. My mom called her my hair sister! I would love to see her again very soon. She still sounds amazing today just as she did back then.
I'm seeing Melissa again next month!! My mom got me tickets as a birthday present! She's coming back my way to Philadelphia! 14 years later, and we finally get to reunite! I cannot wait to hear my hair sister's voice again! See you in a few weeks Melissa! Dara
this is and is still one of my favorite songs. it teaches me to be positive, and never give up when things get too hard. that's the listen i learn when i hear this song. thanks melissa manchester for doing this song.
I fell in Love with your beautiful voice & the lyrics you sang touched my heart deeply. I would listen on my prized possession, my Radio Shack AM radio. The music of my life are such a gift.. Don’t cry out Loud was actually something I had to do at home but this song inspired me to keep going… Thank You…❤🎶
I dont know why but when I hear this song, it makes me sad and brings tears to my eyes... Yes, there are so many things in life that I need to keep inside of me... and learn how to hide my feelings... Maybe, because I feel like it's so much close to me... I love the music, the lyrics, above all Melissa Manchester's vocal and performing...❤😢😢😢!
I was just a kid when Melissa released this classic song and I STILL love it today! Could you all imagine if the late and legendary Karen Carpenter recorded this?!
I can think of hundreds of songs that I wish Karen had recorded. Her version would have been the best on most all of them. We can only imagine what we lost by her early death.
Billboard's #26 song of the '79 survey year. God bless you, Stuck, for postin' it. Thanx! Have a blessed rest of the week. Shalom, Melissa (she's Jewish)!
I haven't thought of this song in years, but back in the 1970s, this was one I'd try to sing with my hairbrush "microphone." I really wanted to match these soaring, powerful vocals. Of course I couldn't even come close - I really tried though!
Few songs ever captured my heart the way this did. This is one of the few songs that helped redeem the seventies. My thanks and Beth Wishes go out to you for posting this, and to all the others that recognize a good song when then hear it!
Looking back over my 68 years now this is just one of those songs you heard first back so long ago but always knew you would never forget throughout life. VERY dynamic ....
K Parsons this remind me of a girl I used to like a lot many years ago back in 1979 I met her at a discotheque and I really liked her she was my first real girl I ever liked a lot and she turn me away he said I was infatuated by her but I wasn't that cared for her son was because I had a good time with there and something about her that I really like and I never forget her she's married now I own my own so it wasn't never met the day that it could have been
And there actually weren’t any truly high notes…high for this particular song, but not First Soprano high. Barbra can certainly hit these notes. And you spelled Barbra’s name wrong
How she kept a straight face through the performance was just pure professionalism. Back when people actually sang live and didn't need to lip-sync or use autotune.
