1.when screen or back is cracked yo usually wanna cover it with tape so you get a better suction 2.in edge like phone the heat won't reach the edge as the phone is not laying flat
I wish your kind of genuine service was available in our city 😭😭 I've been using my S8+ for a year with a crack screen, I've always wanted to change it but services here are so shady, either overpricing or stealing internal parts without us knowing it 😭😭😭😭
For these samsung phones it is extremely important if you are transferring around parts, you must have the exact same variant on both (storage option can be different). Something like a Galaxy S4 or S5 has like half a dozen variants and mix and matching between them will give you anything from signal issues to just flat out not fitting right. This is ESPECIALLY important in the likes of US and China where there are a bunch of carrier specific variants!
I remember getting a damaged s8 plus for $165 then paying $350 for SIM card tray, new screen, battery, and back glass for the phone. Wasted quite a bit of money.
I just got a heat plate myself. Personally, I find that 100°C for 5 minutes works well. I can then stick a utility knife between the glass and then slip in a playing card. Works great so far.
If you want to get the backpanels easly off. Try it with a aluminum fish and a plastic fish, first insert the aluminum fish a bit so you can get the plastic fish under it. If you have it in you can remove the aluminum fish and go around with the plastic fish. Just go easy if you go too hard the backpanel will shatter. Make sure to pre heat it too.
Tip heat it at 70 C for 8 min use 90 percent alcohol or side adhesive. Don’t use a spunger it doesn’t help . Use a nice clean isesamo and you won’t break the glass
Hey Hugh i love what you do. i have an s7 edge with the volume and power buttons which needs to be replaced but i am really skeptical. i cant even purchase the tools you use because ifixit doesn't ship to Cameroon . it frustrates me
My friend has an s8 with a bad camera for $40 and I was going to buy it and swap the board. Thanks for showing me how to do exactly that, because I think it's a motherboard issue as the camera has already been replaced.
Hi Hugh, my dad smashed his back panel on the S8+ and the battery's health was ending, so we decided that we were gonna replace both, when we finally got into the phone, we peeled the the wireless charging half way off, we needed to remove some screws, w removed all but one, because whatever we did, the screw was not moving in any direction, we used all the screwdrivers we had but it didn't budge at all Is there any way I could remove the screw
Is this the same Galaxy S8 from the part lots of 3 Galaxy S8 that you showed us before?! Wow that's a badly broken screen though. Also I think the fastest way to remove the rear cover is to use a heat gun/a hair dryer. The heating machine was quite a bit inefficient. I still like the classic way of opening it which like I said is using a heat gun.
I have a galaxy s8 with a cracked front glass, but the display is still working fine. I think a bricked s8 doner would be fine if i would just transfer the internals to it. Than getting it reglassed or new panels.
Use a thin plastic or metal card instead. You make it very hard for yourself. You can easily separate the backcover from the frame by slicing inbetween the two. Also 120 degrees is way too hot, 80 is the max and works just fine. And you should heat the phone again when applying new backcover tape, since the tape will stick better to the frame when heated, and put on some clamps so the backcover is pressed to the frame (around 4/6 clamps).
Hey, I saw your videos about restoring old macbooks. Can you make a video about cleaning an old keyboard and what to do if you break a key and how to fix it. Sorry for my English. btw nice video :)
I have an S9 that has a cracked screen and the display is flashing but when on lower than max brightness the screen will flash white. Is the S9 display hard to replace. I make UA-cam content and was beginning to grow but after my screen broke it really slew down.
The galaxy S8 has aged really well. Looks so awesome even now, compared to other phones

#TRUTH
The s9 looks even better with its slimmer chin
using one right now, hell yeah!
@@Brian-wp9er it's very similar phone. Not a lot of people can properly differientiate them.

Good insight
And it's edge is also not flat
Heat gun is way better

Pretty cool! I love your videos and I wanted to say that today is very rare to see a s8 on it's original software.

I really recommend you look into taking up board repair! The more people who do it, the better!
I've been watching you for around 6 months and just realised I'm not subscribed have now and love the videos man

Cheaper than buying a new one!
gonna spend the last 2 hours of my night watching these videos so my sleep schedule isn’t even worse than it already is
0:40 It's like the seller knew
Can you give us the link where you get these broken phones ?
One of the only elite UA-cam channels left
Him: having everything he need like other screens, new back of the s8.
Me: having nothing, how come the 30 dollar after spending 300 euros
🤔
For me Android repairs are more interesting than iPhone repairs, thanks Hugh for making them👍
Android is much more diverse, so I agree.
I just got a heat plate myself. Personally, I find that 100°C for 5 minutes works well. I can then stick a utility knife between the glass and then slip in a playing card. Works great so far.

Who watches Hughes videos and barely knows what’s happening ps: I love your videos keep it up man 👍👍👍👍😃😃😃
If you have a shattered screen place packing tape over the screen and the suction cup works way better
*Thanks Hugh for uploading in night for me*
I'd be worried about the battery, leaving the phone on the hot plate at 120⁰.

Woke up watching your video😍😍
Use clear shipping tape on the front to get better seal with your suction cup.
I am using s8 for 3 years already and it fell it was in watter ,dirt and filled with apps and files and always responsive . GG Samsung.
Keep up the good work! Always quality content :)
My inspiration for repairing my own damage phone 🤘
Where do you find all these broken/for parts devices? In the US, Swappa used to have a "Boneyard" for damaged devices but that's long gone.
Use a metal tool to make the initial insertion, makes it way easier
I changed my back to my S10e and S7 Edge ... and the speaker to my S9 because of you, thank you very much, you do a very good job, keep it up!
Hello, Hugh. I have been working on a Galaxy S7 here in Brazil. I'd like to know where you get the refurbished displays.
he gets it from ifixit
ifixit and ebay
$30? Damn. I was just quoted over $100 to replace my cracked S8 display!
Ebay
always check second hand before you go to a service repair
i don't know if you will see this but afaik on android phones you can use a mouse to navigate and use a device if the touchscreen is dead
Can you upload a video about how to pass activation lock
A simple fix for the suction cup problem is to put tape or a screen protector on the screen
A tip may be to tape over the cracks. The suction cup should stick better.
How are you getting on with the micro-soldering? Any videos soon?
Always my favorite device s8
Hey Hugh, where do you source your Amoled screens? Is it hard to get OEM quality?
You can buy them directly from Samsung
I think the S8 is one of the best looking Samsung phones
Hii when i restoring a s8 active i fried the display i accedently bend the conector on the mother board and the oled panel has shorted
When he placed the back panel on the white rubber is that the water proof seal?
I have learnt how to fix mine so now I will buy my tools and do it.
Man, I wish you could repair my S8 too. Haha
I always watch his videos to help me with my repairs like my Galaxy S7 edge
2am from me. I love yours videos Hugh jeffreys
I suggest you do some repairs on an iphone 6 s plus
What happens to most of the broken parts
I know what is probably used for adhesive: a heat-resistant gasket. I can tell this because the rear panel did not easily separate from the frame.
Yes
wow how original wow totally not stolen

Where do you buy all of these devices and parts from? I think I might pick this up as a hobby.
I am still using this phone and its working like a charm
I always find using an isesamo works much better than suction cup. Just obviously need to be mode careful not to scratch the frame of the phone
jeffry please tell me the website you used to buy used/broken phones for cheap

Hey! Any idea on how to make the earpiece grille black/dark again? On my S10+ it's turned gray and it's suuuper annoying to me.
