As a guy with a very very thin wallet, I was surprised to see you give a pretty good review on Teachers Scotch. I drink this neat, and at room temperature. Here in Indianapolis where I live, it sells at some really ridiculously low prices. I keep this on-hand and have a few drams a night. Thanks for not bashing this one...
Neat is the only way to drink whiskey so that's great, I started trying this one right now, I am still a bit confused by the peat as I am not used to it and this one has a lot of it in my mind, but it's growing on me as I go. I do feel like I'd maybe like a more complex one, but for the price it's a okay.
Up until now, Monkey Shoulder has been my go-to budget Scotch at around $32ish; my go-to budget peat has been Ardbeg 5 at around $50. I just bought a bottle of Teachers for $9 (including tax)-I'm sold!
I bought one today in Brazil for 35 reais, which means $6 and some pennies. I've drinked 50ml neat and i'm on the rocks for the rest of the night and It's the real deal for the money spent. OBS: the one sold here is imported and cutted at homeland, wich means lower proof (40%) and lower quality. Even though, all that i said above is right. I can only imagine that the one sold directly from Scotland is even better for your taste and still good for your wallet.

I've been saying for a long time that Teacher's is probably the best budget scotch out there. And where I live I can buy three Teacher's for the price of one Monkey Shoulder.
@@Ricardo8388 no, it’s not. It’s a great scotch for the price. I’ve had Johnnie Walker Black, Gold, 18, & Blue…Macallan 12, The Glenlivet 12, 18….so I’ve had some good scotches. Catching up on my episodes... OH MY GOD!!! Finally Teachers Highland Cream found this when i first started drinking whiskey on a discount rack and i love it. Will always have a place on my shelf as an everyday drinker and a gateway into peat for those friends who want to try it. $19 a bottle in PA 2020
It's my go-to blend for a budget scotch blend. I always have a bottle in the rotation. The smokiness, and mixed with the honey hints that I always got, I could drink it straight or with ice AND as a mixer! Love it.

"Cream of the crop, because the cream rises to the top, ohhhh yeah!" Lol sorry. Macho Man was the first thing I thought of when you said cream of the crop. Love your channel and content. Because of your reviews I have been introduced to a whole new world of whiskeys to find and try.
Teachers is still not bad for the price even here in Australia. It used to be so much better when there was Glendronach in the blend as well as the Ardmore.
I have been drinking this whisky weekly for the past few month. Many people agree this it the best peated blended budget Scotch. 15 EUR a liter on sale. Delicious.
this was my first peat, and no one told me about it, i was going in blind, trying to figure out what that smoked vegetable flavor was, wondering for hours if it was "peat" that everyone talked about for scotch. i looked for reviews, no one mentioned peat, and peat was always described as "smoke", that peat in teacher's is not smoke as much as charred vegetation. its been a year and i know now that it is peat in teacher's. btw, i also can find chocolate milk in teacher's
As a youth I created a mixed drink I called the "harsh taskmaster;" a pretty simple affair calling for specifically Teacher's, coca-cola and lime juice stirred over ice in the glass. All the thought I put in to it was that I wanted a whiskey and coke with lime, and I bought teacher's as an impoverished youth pretending to have taste. At the time the quality of the drink surprised me, so much so it's one of my few youthful creations I can even still remember (not for the drinking, just a disorganised art student haha). Today as a man approaching thirty looking for a couple drams this evening a day before getting paid, I picked up the 35cl bottle. This time the limit of my thought was the only other options were Beam or Jack - not that I'm a snob about either but my last two bottles were bourbon so I wanted a scotch. Often when I acquire a whiskey that I haven't experienced neat, the first thing I do is load up a whiskey vault video about it. This evening I was humbled into doing it after taking a sip and having my mind blown. I've spent the last two years tasting peated whiskeys from Laphroaig 10 to Lagavulin 12 (2021 Special Release) and most everything in between (not to mention Connemara
A great story my brother! And I totally agree with you, considering what other peated whiskeys you mentioned (Islay varieties making my 9/10 tastings). If Lagavulin 16 is my go to for celebrations and special moments, Teacher’s is my casual driver for any day of the week when I need something to kick the juices inside the soul.
Good review guys. Im really surprised it took this long for someone to send Teachers in to be reviewed with as good of a budget scotch it is. I can pick this up for about $12 a bottle and for the price it is absolutely amazing.
I just bought my first bottle of Highland Cream this week........... and wow was I surprised. I walked out the door with a fifth for about $18 and have never sipped so slowly in such a budget whisky. Wowowooowy! And cheers to RayD70 (and his family) and to Merlin!
Hey I am from India, have been a fan of Teacher's Highland Cream.....you can also try their other expressions like Teacher's Origin, Teacher's50(introduced to celebrate 50 years of Indian Independence), Teacher's Golden Thistle 12 years.....You Guys Rock! Cheers!!
I'm currently drinking this, and I think for a budget whiskey (I bought it at ~12 EUR), it is damn good. It goes down smoothly, it's light, and while the peat adds some welcome earthiness to it, it is not smoky whatsoever. Will definitely buy this again for when I'm in the mood for a solid dram, but nothing fancy.
Love teacher's great whisky quality and price cheap good whisky cheap price perfect!! Ardmore and glendronach distillery the heart Teacher’s.. Little water the flavors come out little smoke little sea salt Sherry pepper vanilla honey great stuff!! Petros from Greece 🇬🇷
Older bottlings of Teacher's HC supposedly contained a portion of Glendronach which added a sherried element and additional complexity that no longer exists. It'd be nice to find one of those old bottles.
Rex, ask the guy that washes out the men's room floors what he thinks of your accuracy. Saluting the fallen. (My mother passed away on Jan. 3rd. Nice review! I'm always on the lookout for a budget whisky and THC has been one of my favorites for a couple of years now. I recommend to anyone that wants to try a peated whisky for the first time to see if they like peat.
I have gotten so used to smokiness in whisky, that I only bearly taste it in the Teacher's Highland Cream. The only whiskies that still taste relatively smoky to me, are the Ardbeg 10 and Laphroaig 10.
I love the content guys you are brilliant at what you do. I do enjoy teachers a lot especially as it was my grandads favourite whiskey that we used to drink together before he passed its amazing how different drinks bring back memories
Hello from Hong Kong. Good comparison of Teachers and BB new. I can get Islay Mist Deluxe, Isle of Skye 8YO and finally White Horse here too. But the Teachers is cheaper in price and better value for money. I have the old BB and its much better than the current edition. Great work keep safe and well.
You guys are very lucky to get this at 43% abv. It’s 40% here in 🇨🇦 which totally sucks! Ardmore Legacy disappeared for a bit and now is back with a price increase to about $50 CAD. Not really budget any more.
Good video. I like Ardmore, of course like everything else once I start to like something the price seems to go up. I will definitely give Teacher's a try. It's priced about like Dewar's White Label at my local store. I tried Black Bottle once and wasn't impressed. One question: how much have you guys had to drink before you start shooting the videos?
Something that I feel like got missed in this episode is the mention that teacher's is 86 proof (43% ABV), so it can take some water being added to it in terms of proof.
I am of South Korean ancestry. I am a fan of sweet, smooth and soft. And teacher's gives me all three, and also is budget friendly~ and yes, I am enjoying a glass of it now
Was very favoured in England for years and is making a comeback. It's my favourite and is a little similar the Famous Grouse. Teachers is so inexpensive, it's a bargain.
Gone trough this bottle and a few Guinness beers at house party. My house the day I became a teacher. My second whisky after Grouse. Loved them both, as far as I can remember.
Highland Park 12 is 40% abv in the U.K and almost twice the price of the Teacher's (also 40%). I'd buy the Teacher's. The thing about my purchases now relates very much to price/quality. I very rarely buy blends but this is really good for the money and has a decent percentage of malt in the blend and some well balanced peat.
I was hoping for you to it the Teachers up against the Islay Mist. I drink Teachers often but ai haven’t tried the Mist. I am always curious to find a budget whiskey with some peatiness.
Islay Mist is good and so is Isle of Skye 8 years. Both are blended whiskies with smoky/ peaty notes and similarly priced which is close to Teacher's price (plus 5 USD approx.)
Teachers biggest market, if I am not mistaken, is Brazil (where I hail from). It is not only a great entry blended Scotch, it is also one of the cheapest we can get in here. I always have one at home.
I may not be magnificent, but I am a cheapskate bastard and this is hands down my favourite bottom shelf peated blend. The Islay mist 8 year old is a very close second, it's also a Laphroaig blend and is well worth trying out for anyone looking for a cheap peat fix.
I dont think people realise how budget this is, i can get this for 10€ I know a lot of people consider 25 and under budget but this is cheaper than vodka
Around 13-15 euros here :D it is cheaper than some vodka but not all :D and more expensive than some whiskey! Here you can get whiskys like Long John and Winchester which cost half as much as the Teacher's, around 6-7 euros :D Compared to those this is a pretty expensive whisky! Everything is relative
Oh well it all depends on where you live then I guess. This is the cheapest whiskey in my local liquor stores, and I prefer it to a lot of whiskeys at least twice the price
I’ve noticed that some whiskies you’ve reviewed here are higher ABV than what’s available here in Australia. Teacher’s for instance is 40% ABV here in Australia instead of the 43% you have. I also noticed that in your ‘Top 10 Budget-ish Bourbons’ video you had a bottle of Bulliet at 45%, which is something I’ve been unable to find, since every bottle I’ve come across locally has been a flat 40%. Makes me wonder why exactly they’re different, and how much different the tasting experience is as a direct result of the ABV change. Can’t help but wonder if there’s any other changes too. Would love to hear your opinions. P.s. Teacher’s was my first scotch whiskey, a couple of years before I actually got into whiskey so I’m excited to see it reviewed here.
Hey, from Russia with Love! Thank you guys! I love watching your videos. You are great people, and If I am not mistaken you are from Texas. That means a lot to me, because I've been to this State in the far 2003. Thank you very much for your reviews.
Finally!!! Teacher's is my favorite cheap whiskey. I've been meaning to send a bottle, but I can't let go...kind of a reverse mooch. Sorry. I can get Teacher's for less than $18 a bottle. I like to drink it down to the shoulder, then top off the bottle with Laphroaig 10.
Excellent idea! I've got the Laph QC beside the Teachers for that very purpose only need a couple drops to liven up the dram. Amazingly I can buy it here in HK for U$18 1 Litre and its value for money.
I would also recommend the Cutty Prohibition at 100 proof. In Cal-Oregon area $19 - 27$. It's a blend of mostly Glenrothes with grain and a touch of Highland Park and Macallan. Add a drop or 2 of Ardbeg 10 to this and wow! Damn good , smoky and cheap. I commented because I just bought a 1970's bottle of Teachers at auction. My plan is to try it against the modern version with my whisky club. Cheers!
First time trying this I couldn't get past the medicinal quality.. It kind of overpowered it for me, but realizing that it's because of the peat, I might revisit it and try to recontextualize it in my mind.
Last few bottles of Teachers I bought, I couldn't taste the peat. I moved on to Lang's Full and Smoky because I can at least taste it in there in every bottle. Teacher's is hit or miss, mostly miss. When when you get a good bottle or it, it's yummy
As are all your videos, very informative. I'd love to see you pick a variety of (moderately priced) blended Scotches for a video. I've like the Monkey Shoulder, Black Bottle and the Artist's Blend quite a bit. (I only recently tried the Black Bottle for the first time - in the round bottle, rather than the oval I've see you taste. Can you enlighten me as to whether/how much they differ?) Love to hear your take on Islay Mist, Isle of Skye, Grant's, White Horse, Glen Kirk, etc. Will be adding the Teacher's to my wish list, after I pick up some Compass Box Glasgow.
I finally got to try some peated whiskey with a Laphroaig 10. I didn't really like it. Not so much that the flavor put me off, but more so that it tasted like "work". I'm a firefighter....
I'm 22 and barely getting into drinking. My first 5 bottles are 1. Woodford reserve bourbon whiskey 2. Russell's reserve 10 year 3. Elijah Craig small batch 4. Coopers mark honey whiskey 5. Russell's reserve wheat whiskey I like them all for their own taste and strength so I just want to know if anyone has any brands they would recommend? They dont have to be starter whiskeys, I just want to expand my pallet before I get to the expensive stuff so I can appreciate it more when the day comes. Edit: I know it may seem dumb to ask questions when they have so many reviews on things but I just want some simple advice from experienced drinkers.

Something that I feel like got missed in this episode is the mention that teacher's is 86 proof (43% ABV), so it can take some water being added to it in terms of proof.
I am of South Korean ancestry. I am a fan of sweet, smooth and soft. And teacher's gives me all three, and also is budget friendly~ and yes, I am enjoying a glass of it now
Came here specifically for the Teacher's review, I like the content, potential sub!
I'm a humble man and absolutely enjoy THC! Goes great with Costco shepherds pie 🤷🏼♂️☺️
Character on a budget if you like smoky peatiness with a sweet finish.
I was hoping for you to it the Teachers up against the Islay Mist. I drink Teachers often but ai haven’t tried the Mist. I am always curious to find a budget whiskey with some peatiness.
You should review Isla Mist because in my humble opinion it is the best blend with peat in it, mostly because the majority of the blend is Laphroig!
Andras Istvan you absolutely right, I’m actually drinking Islay mist right now..
Cheers.
Islay Mist is good and so is Isle of Skye 8 years. Both are blended whiskies with smoky/ peaty notes and similarly priced which is close to Teacher's price (plus 5 USD approx.)
It sells for anything between 8 dollars to 15 dollars (equivalent INR) in India.
Just picked up a liter for $19, think this is my new daily drinker!
I have a 1980's bottling of 1 litre bottled at 43%. I have no intention of drinking it unless it shows signs of oxidizing. Have no idea how it tastes.
Which one is good among teachers highland cream, J&B,Dewars white label, vat 69,black & white, black dog, ballantine, passport,Jim Beam
I live in TN and work for a JD but love Teachers. Its my bottle I buy for the weekend
I dont think people realise how budget this is, i can get this for 10€ I know a lot of people consider 25 and under budget but this is cheaper than vodka
1.75 liter for $30 here.
@@texasredneck78154 €9.99 for 1 Litre in Lanzarote
Around 13-15 euros here :D it is cheaper than some vodka but not all :D and more expensive than some whiskey! Here you can get whiskys like Long John and Winchester which cost half as much as the Teacher's, around 6-7 euros :D Compared to those this is a pretty expensive whisky! Everything is relative
Oh well it all depends on where you live then I guess. This is the cheapest whiskey in my local liquor stores, and I prefer it to a lot of whiskeys at least twice the price
I’ve noticed that some whiskies you’ve reviewed here are
higher ABV than what’s available here in Australia. Teacher’s for instance is 40% ABV here
in Australia instead of the 43% you have. I also noticed that in your ‘Top 10
Budget-ish Bourbons’ video you had a bottle of Bulliet at 45%, which is something
I’ve been unable to find, since every bottle I’ve come across locally has been
a flat 40%. Makes me wonder why exactly they’re different, and how much
different the tasting experience is as a direct result of the ABV change. Can’t
help but wonder if there’s any other changes too. Would love to hear your
opinions.
P.s. Teacher’s was my first scotch whiskey, a couple of years
before I actually got into whiskey so I’m excited to see it reviewed here.
Hey, from Russia with Love! Thank you guys! I love watching your videos. You are great people, and If I am not mistaken you are from Texas. That means a lot to me, because I've been to this State in the far 2003. Thank you very much for your reviews.
What is the cutoff for "budget" scotch? Are we talking under $30? Under $40?
Andrew Boyles it’s about $20
11.27€ here in Spain. Just looked at Amazon.. Yes, Amazon sells alcohol here in Europe...
@@FedericoPrieto13 That is awesome. Pesky American laws.
This may be the first time Rex has thrown around more tasting notes than Daniel, not bad.
Cheers!
I agree, no cream, lots of peat, earthy and ashy tones. Bought a 1.75 liter on sale for $28+tax.
This is a great intro to peat. In the US the ABV is 43% but rest of the world is 40%. This is a GREAT inexpensive whiskey.
First time trying this I couldn't get past the medicinal quality.. It kind of overpowered it for me, but realizing that it's because of the peat, I might revisit it and try to recontextualize it in my mind.
Just tried Teacher's whisky and didn't liked it. My favorite is Jim Beam. Any recommendations similar to Jim Beam?
Finlaggan Old Reserve is pretty solid budget peat if no one else has mentioned it. About $30 here in Illinois.
They were drunk before the beginning of the video🤣😂
By far my favorite budget Scotch, I always have a bottle of this on hand, and for the price its amazing,
Lived in India for 6 years. Teachers was my go to whiskey. They also had a Seagram's blend that was better than "7" but can't recall the name.
Who else drinks to our fallen when they toast.... I do... well done guys....
Point of interest Laphroaig tastes different to all other peated whiskeys and I personally don't care for it either.
@@tjmoo3576 I do still wanna try a few more. Specifically Ardbeg and Lagavulin.
Laphroaig comes across as structure fire smoke to me. Lagavulin and caol ila are more wood smoke which I like.
@@zanderwow you should definitely try Ardbeg 10. It's arguably the best entry level peated whisky on the market.
All good advice above. I second and highly recommend you try Caol Ila, my favorite of the Islays.
Newer Black bottle has absolutely no peat.
Just found that Ardmore and Teacher's are actually from the same family - William Teacher & Sons.
Nice review, Go for Famous Grouse smoky black cheers
I'm 22 and barely getting into drinking.
My first 5 bottles are
1. Woodford reserve bourbon whiskey
2. Russell's reserve 10 year
3. Elijah Craig small batch
4. Coopers mark honey whiskey
5. Russell's reserve wheat whiskey
I like them all for their own taste and strength so I just want to know if anyone has any brands they would recommend? They dont have to be starter whiskeys, I just want to expand my pallet before I get to the expensive stuff so I can appreciate it more when the day comes.
Edit: I know it may seem dumb to ask questions when they have so many reviews on things but I just want some simple advice from experienced drinkers.
try a nice spicy rye. Try BASIL HAYDEN'S DARK RYE
This was one of Hemingway's favorites.
