Aluminum melts at about 1200'F and that's what the exhaust temp is (approx) based on an EGT gauge. It's also located before the silencer so that's going to be a max heat area. Oddly enough it looks like the weld failed though. CO
The part has since been changed to be made out of stainless steel. I think had I not adjusted the mixture it would have been okay but this isn't a part that should fail like this so stainless is clearly the way to go.
Personally I love the carb. Once dialed in it's good to go at just about any elevation and temperature. It has taken me some time to figure out how to dial it in but now that I understand what different changes are doing, it really isn't that difficult. I'll try to do a video on it sometime in the future. One other great benefit of the SmartCarb is changing the Metering Rod doesn't require removing it from the machine. It is just four small allen bolts on top and the important pieces come right out. Also, adjusting the low rpm fuel mixture couldn't be easier and can be done without tools. All in all, very happy with the carb and I'll be upgrading all of my machines over time to a SmartCarb.

How much better is that new style carb and is it worth ditching the old one
