Graffiti, unlike street art and murals, has a rich, rich, deep culture, tradition and history since the 1960s in NYC. Bushwick collective/street art is more or less something new that came with the mass influx of out of towners gentrifying brooklyn over the past 14 years. Bushwick used to be a mecca for bombing. Nearly every child growing up in nyc tagged their name up in some way at some point, its so deeply rooted in the culture. People really have some audacity to speak against bombers going over legal murals in a neighborhood that for DECADES was a place harboring some of the worlds illest writers. Its the equivelant to a mom and pop fish fry spot getting driven out of town and all of a sudden the new white kids open up a coffee shop where you can't find a drink for under 3 dollars. Then slowly, the neighborhood changes and no longer caters to the common people, but rather the new kids who are too awkward to mwet their neighbors who lived there for years, and call the cops on the locals for bbq fumes coming thru their windows or kids tagging or people bumping M.O.P too loud. Its downright disrespectful. Bombing belongs because they take the effort to risk their freedom to put up their names. Muralists cant keep up with the sport, the competition, so they deserve to be driven out.

@@flatcircleone I said NOTHING about how I liked or disliked graffiti as a whole, merely that I disliked how the reporters hadn't seemed to actually have asked the sujects any actual questions and/or just tossed them softball questions to the extent that it came across as just recording the taggers opinions about themselves. I'm going to respond to every single sentence you wrote, not to antagonise you but because what you wrote could be the artistic, moral, ethical and legal bedrock foundations for the Leaning Tower of Pissa "Dude shut up" Not a real argument. This will not win you any points in debate class at high school, college or university, ever. "Graf is subjective and isn't for the general public to enjoy" Then don't put it on a public building thats currently occupied and/or beinf rented out! Put it on an abandoned building and/or part of a public structure like a bridge and/or a subway tunnel, not a public building where the graffiti could destroy the image of the building that the people renting or leasing have worked so hard to build. If you just do that then your graffiti will be publically tolerated, enjoyed and even respected. Its not the same story if its a currently occupied/owned building. Say for example that someone's made a restaurant that's supposed to envoke a classic boxcar diner, or an apartment building was built as a classic modernist structure. A tag on the front of the building ruins the image they worked so hard to build! (Notice that I said nothing about tags in the alleyway of the building and/or artistic murals or pieces.) "unless they happen to have a basic understanding of how letters work..." Say I enjoy all forms of dancing. Even though I appreciate all forms of dancing, I wouldn't want a dancer dancing in front of my building 24/7 without them even asking me and/or any of the other people in my building how we feel about them dancing there and/or if we wanted them dancing there at all. "People aren't doing graffiti because they want to follow the rules" That's fairly obvious to the vast majority of humanity. "It gives you a rush" Crack cocaine, methamphetamines and amphetamines also gives people a rush. "You can literally take whatever you want out of writing, its completely subjective" EVERYTHING is subjective. Go to TV Tropes page about "Death of the author". "and if you've ever felt isolated/otherised it gives you a sense of community/camaraderie that is hard to find" Isn't the whole point of graffiti that you're competing against other people in the "community"? That being said, why do you feel you have to "permanently" "mark" a building instead of putting a poster or wheat post up there? "(especially for folks on the margins that are directly affected by the gentrification all these ugly ass murals promote)" Why do you believe that these murals promote gentrification? In the Metro Vancouver region of British Columbia Canda, it tends to be the worn down buildings (like the public housing buildings and the community centres) that get murals painted onto them. "you're telling me you'd rather look an ad for a company owned by Jeff Bezos than a dope fill in?" Thats a textbook example of a false equivalency. We weren't talking about billboards to begin with, we were talking about store fronts and the entrances to apartment and condo buildings. Personally I wouldn't care much if you defaced an Amazon bill board ad. Someone's personal owned or rented property is a different story. "I dunno what 'hardball questions' they could've asked without looking like complete jackasses" Just basic ****ing ****. Like 'what motivates you to do this?' and 'do you have anything you hope to accomplish by doing this?' and 'do you think you have any 'rights' to the city, given that you are all transplants from New Orleans that only moved here like 5 years ago at most?' "graf is for the kids and the cutties and isn't for brain-dead cnn watching ass yuppies with black/white mentalities on everything (like you). rest my case" You're coming off as a dumb entitled hipster mofo, you know that right? If you're creating graffiti just to get laid, you lose ANY moral and/or ethical graffiti you might've otherwise had. My parents only got pensions by working 15 years each at soul crushinf government jobs. My biggest issue is that I would probably be defined as a bleeding heart liberal who is so constantly wonder about where I'm in the right or wrong about any given issue that in the future I might possibly develop ulcers stressing about it. This is about the only good comment I have read so far. Thank you for knowing our culture accurately. I retired over a decade ago and I have enough skills to paint permission walls and sell out to corporate companies. But because i'm loyal to the original rules of graff, I left that life completely. I'd rather bomb and get a whole lot of respect than to make money off of "art" that the next generation of writers will eventually disrespect. As time goes by people's perspectives will continue to be the shit you've read in these comments. It's sad that these people don't get properly educated before they end up liking their favorite 'street artist' whose never paid their dues.
Tens of millions of gallons of paint made, shipped globally, steel manufactured to make cans, trucked to plants, employees report to work, manufacture cans, and on and on, and ALL FOR NOTHING.
So did I get that right, there is only like 5 "real" sprayers left in New York, who feel threatened by all the official/ordered street art murals, so they disrespect these "foreign" artworks and tag their (what seems to me) entry level 10-second tags all across? After New York graffiti influenced the entire world, and had their style appear on every shop from Grantham to Oulo to Castrop-Rauxel?
this is just white people white peopling.. they always have to woe is me themselves to death.. they complain about "snowflakes" and "black ppl CRYING about oppression" but white ppl the biggest cry babies on the face of the earth
They are not tagging over murals, they are bombing. Anyway, they reclaim legally painted space for illegal traditional, letter-based graffiti. On one hand side I think, that there would be enough walls to paint (even illegally), without destroying other people’s work. On the other side, they oppose the graffiti that looks ‘beautiful’ and is ‘understandable’ for the public. What they do is the essence of American graffiti, a code language for insiders: they give a s*it if people like it or not, it’s just there.

Also if the advertisers stop paying and/or if people demand the ads get taken down, the advertisers can just turn off the tv screen or take down the poster. It takes between hundreds to thousands of dollars to remove a graffit tag or bomb

I'm going to respond to every single sentence you wrote, not to antagonise you but because what you wrote could be the artistic, moral, ethical and legal bedrock foundations for the Leaning Tower of Pissa
"Dude shut up"
Not a real argument. This will not win you any points in debate class at high school, college or university, ever.
"Graf is subjective and isn't for the general public to enjoy"
Then don't put it on a public building thats currently occupied and/or beinf rented out!
(Notice that I said nothing about tags in the alleyway of the building and/or artistic murals or pieces.)
"unless they happen to have a basic understanding of how letters work..."
Say I enjoy all forms of dancing. Even though I appreciate all forms of dancing, I wouldn't want a dancer dancing in front of my building 24/7 without them even asking me and/or any of the other people in my building how we feel about them dancing there and/or if we wanted them dancing there at all.
"People aren't doing graffiti because they want to follow the rules"
That's fairly obvious to the vast majority of humanity.
"It gives you a rush"
Crack cocaine, methamphetamines and amphetamines also gives people a rush.
"You can literally take whatever you want out of writing, its completely subjective"
EVERYTHING is subjective. Go to TV Tropes page about "Death of the author".
"and if you've ever felt isolated/otherised it gives you a sense of community/camaraderie that is hard to find"
Isn't the whole point of graffiti that you're competing against other people in the "community"? That being said, why do you feel you have to "permanently" "mark" a building instead of putting a poster or wheat post up there?
"(especially for folks on the margins that are directly affected by the gentrification all these ugly ass murals promote)"
Why do you believe that these murals promote gentrification? In the Metro Vancouver region of British Columbia Canda, it tends to be the worn down buildings (like the public housing buildings and the community centres) that get murals painted onto them.
"you're telling me you'd rather look an ad for a company owned by Jeff Bezos than a dope fill in?"
Thats a textbook example of a false equivalency. We weren't talking about billboards to begin with, we were talking about store fronts and the entrances to apartment and condo buildings.
Personally I wouldn't care much if you defaced an Amazon bill board ad. Someone's personal owned or rented property is a different story.
"I dunno what 'hardball questions' they could've asked without looking like complete jackasses"
Just basic ****ing ****. Like 'what motivates you to do this?' and 'do you have anything you hope to accomplish by doing this?' and 'do you think you have any 'rights' to the city, given that you are all transplants from New Orleans that only moved here like 5 years ago at most?'

As time goes by people's perspectives will continue to be the shit you've read in these comments. It's sad that these people don't get properly educated before they end up liking their favorite 'street artist' whose never paid their dues.
always have a good laugh reading the normie comments on graff vids ahah
The negative environmental impact of this vandalism world wide is staggering.
Dave Johnson shut up Dave
@@theresakim3361... Typical leftist, no rebuttal, just more pollution.
Yeah shut up "dave".
@@rimer82k Another empty headed leftist.
The entry level 10 second tag is where it all starts my man
@@wicstwo facts

No duh they're called throw ups, in and out ,Vandal shit
They are not tagging over murals, they are bombing. Anyway, they reclaim legally painted space for illegal traditional, letter-based graffiti.
On one hand side I think, that there would be enough walls to paint (even illegally), without destroying other people’s work. On the other side, they oppose the graffiti that looks ‘beautiful’ and is ‘understandable’ for the public. What they do is the essence of American graffiti, a code language for insiders: they give a s*it if people like it or not, it’s just there.
Facts, i hope people read you're comment and understand this instead of getting all protective about other peoples shitty walls
