I'd say even Lewis doesn't remember exactly what happened, or more so that he likely didn't notice Arthur's arm changing color as being shoved off a cliff would be rather distracting.

@@DemonDragon000 Lewis was pushed from behind, he turned around as he was falling which leads to the signature visual of Lewis falling to his death while reaching out to Arthur. So he only even got a moment to see what was going on while he was falling, and the scene must've been even more confusing to him, given half of Arthur was mortified, while the other was monstrous.
Vivi's empty eyes in the first episode were due to her memories being gone/erased. If Arthur had been looking at it the mirror directly, his eyes would also have likely been empty. After all, he doesn't remember either.
I wouldn't say erased! Vivi, Arthur and Mystery still know, who "Lewis" is, they just don't remember, what happened to him! The eyes missing in Vivi's reflection carry the meaning, that Vivi is "blind to the truth" so to say!
Arthur just forgot what happened in the cave, either from the trauma of having his arm ripped off or via Mystery wiping away the memory. And I assumed Vivi's eyes being empty showed that she was a vessel for the warrior's spirit, rather than anything to do with her memory.
Shiro was probably able to find Mystery because he had to transform to rip off Arthur's arm. Indeed, Avoiding being detected by Shiro might be why Mystery has been "hiding" as a dog all these years.
Just a quick side note, everything is spot on except Mystery Skulls being a "band," cuz he's actually just one guy! Sometimes he collabs with other artists like Snowblood, but as far as I know, he writes, produces, and performs his own music solo! I saw him in concert (back in 2019 when those were still a thing) and got to meet him and he's like the chillest dude ever. He even invited a bunch of people on stage who were in cosplay and fursuits (because of course there were fursuiters there) for an impromptu cosplay contest. It was amazing. He's released a few albums since the Back to Life (last pre-covid album) tour and I really can't wait to see him again live

I always took the scene where Lewis' face shifts to his living form right before he's about to drop Arthur as him not so much revealing himself as it is Arthur discovering the truth. I assumed that Lewis' anger stemmed not just from being killed by his supposed friend, but from the fact that Arthur doesn't even remember he killed Lewis. Lewis just assumed he feigned ignorance to get Vivi for himself now that he was dead. And when Arthur seemed so shocked and confused at seeing Lewis there, it made Lewis realize he was making a mistake. That Arthur never killed him nor did he intentionally forget it.
I took it as Arthur's mechanical arm reacted to touching lewis's arm and reveled his face. The magic/ghostly wisps as he grabs lewis' arm with his mechanical one. Maybe from when he slammed it on the dash and the ghostly magic that stopped the van shorted out his arm or whatever and it just dangled there
It's inaccurate to say Lewis chases Shiromori, at the end of Freaking Out: They just are both after people in the same direction. Lewis uses the pull of Shiro's flowers to track down Vivi and Arthur, who happen to be in the same van as Mystery, who is Shiro's target.

Not to mention that when he hijacks the semi, he’s not chasing after Shiromori. His desire for revenge on Arthur was reinvigorated by the Blue flower Shiro produced when she used his heart to try and find Mystery. And thus he begins his own crusade to find arthur and exact his vengance
I have a theory about shiro: What if shiro needs mystery's blood to stay alive not to to become more powerful At 9:05 if u look her heart it seems like its somewhat empty as if she's missing a part of her life force
it could be that she sees him as a family member since his blood literally created her...but she also needs his blood to survive. So she considers them family but if she has to stay alive she will hurt him. sort of a parasitic relationship. hence why she went dormant for so long to preserve her strength but then lost control when she finally found him and ended up hurting him.

Mystery brought her to life and in turn she created a forest for him to hide in from Vivi’s ancestor. Shiro likely became incredible dependant on Mystery and he probably got tired of it and felt like she probably became overvearing. This is likely why Mystery ran away and hid, which is why she’s looking for him in the first place.
Also! that "glowing" form of Lewis during when he gets revived is a reference to Interstella 5555 - another animated musical movie/series. Lewis bears resemblance in many ways to Shep - another dead character, however while Lewis is manevolent, Shep actively helps his group.
The locket probably always was a picture of the entire gang, it's just Lewis had , what some friends and I call, folded picture sentiment, meaning he subconsciously cutout Arthur and mystery. That's why when Lewis takes the locket back, he cries. Not because it was "updated", but because he literally started to treat the mystery skulls as just him and Vivi. I kinda think that way because it's trope sometimes seen in anime/games where an important photo reveals that there were more members after someone takes it out to replace the frame. It's also is kind of making a reference to how Arthur was kind of doing the same thing for different reasons. My head cannon is that Arthur was doing it because he was just plain tired of searching all over and not finding Lewis hence why even for pictures at the Pepper's family bistro he was removing Lewis, which if you think about it, doesn't make any sense as not only does Lewis work there he is a part of the Pepper household. Also Mystery stopping him might be because Mystery did the same thing with Shiro and regrets it.

I know this video is a year old but I showed a friend this series recently (Forget how they reminded me of it)and they loved it! Fun thing I noticed is you can always see 1 of those purple heart ghosts look upset or sad? Well I think it's to represent that deep in his heart he knows he's doing something wrong in a way.
One nitpick, you said that Arthur was still scared of Mystery because of what happened at the cavern. I don't believe he or Vivi have memories of what happened at the cavern, instead I think it was the "dream" he had in Freaking Out, where he saw or dreamed he saw Mystery in his kitsune form. He seemed to convince himself it was just a dream in Hellbent, which seems to take place immediately after Freaking out, and moved on.
I recently binged all 4 episodes of the animation and had a few questions about what was going on before I went on google to check it out further. I thankfully came across this video first and it saved me a bunch of time.
Vivi without her eyes is a form to represent that she forgot that Lewis died i think,the part that shows Arthur being posseses we can see Vivi in an passage under the rock Arthur and Lewis are,she saw Lewis dying but somehow forgot just like Arthur,that's why they're searching Lewis(that's what i think,and sorry for my bad english)
Loll you should watch the first video he made on this. He tells all the characters names. If you're interested. I liked watching all three and seeing how much he changed it up over the past few months. Love this guy!
My personal theory regarding Arthur searching for Lewis is that Vivi and Arthur’s memories were somehow erased/altered after Lewis died and Mystery bit off Arthur’s arm. I’ve heard a good point about how in “Ghost”, when we see Vivi’s eyes glow bright pink, that might’ve been her memory of the accident being deleted (since we can see Vivi at the bottom of the cavern where Lewis died, so she likely saw him turn into a ghost.) Also, Lewis most likely didn’t know Arthur was possessed when he pushed him off, because otherwise he wouldn’t blame him as much as he did, and Arthur wouldn’t be surprised to discover Lewis is dead. The green spirit that possessed Arthur probably fed on his jealousy towards Lewis and amplified.

I've been thinking alot about the relationship between Mystery and Shiro. Could it be prossible that Mystery purposely created Shiro because he was lonely? But when Shiro became power hungry he turned to Mushi for help. Just a small theory I came up with while watching these vids at work. Anyone else think it's possible?

Shiro was Mystery's henchman. She fought the Vivi's ancestor ALONGSIDE Mystery in the past. That's why she's confused when she sees mystery working with Vivi.
judging by the way shiro reacts to vivi and mystery working together, and the way mystery shugs like "what can you do" it doesn't seem like mushi and mystery ever teamed up in the past, more likely that they were antagonistic until the very end and shiro is flabbergasted that mystery is now suddenly teamed up with his "former enemy"

TBH, all of them are my favourite episodes. As for characters, well it’s without a shadow of doubt that mystery is my favourite character. Partially because it’s him who brought me to the series and part due to his character design
I have watched this series sense it came out, one because I loved mlp so I already loved his Chanel but when this came out I’ve always checked in on it and shared it because this is probably one of the best things ever made on yt it’s sad to hear it end but I’m glad I could be here for the beginning and the ending. It’s what made me want to make art.
At 9:30 you can see 8 different colors couming out of the heart - i would think, that those are belonging to the nine tails, and the powers of the kitsune (which is also linked to it's emotions, so not that far off). Mystery's powers likely to be sort of SEALED, and not simply HIDDEN. It can unseal it's powers, but we doesn't know the exact reasons, why that seal was placed upon it (i think it might have some connection to the bloodline of Vivi, like being a protector of the family). Each flowing color should belongs to one of the tails - the last one still hidden, not unsealing the true form's full power, but i believe it's there.
I 100% forgot about Arthur's arm by the time the recent one came out so I was pretty confused about the ending. in fact, I hadn't even realized Mystery was the one who removed it in the first place. Needless to say, as much as I love the story, I usually don't pull myself away from the music enough to really piece together the events. Thanks for the explanation
I just watched future before this video today. I remember watching the previous videos years ago. When you said there'd be another video this month I cried.

Ghost was my introduction to the series, and it's my favorite song, but I honestly love Episode 4 The Future because the gang finally got back together~
Vivi's black eyes signify the curse on her. When she was sleeping, her eyes glowed and Lewis was being erased from a picture they took. Its possible that when they went to the cavern vivi got cursed and its the reason why she, Arthur, and mystery cant remember that Lewis died or where they last saw him. Her curse was spreading to those around her and erasing all evidence of Lewis specifically. Lewis punches shiromori because his heart is his weakness and she was still holding on to it. He gets very defensive over his heart. Lewis wasn't chasing shiromori, he was chasing down Arthur to get revenge. He only had a change of heart after tossing him and seeing Arthur's confused face.
One minor note to bring up When Shiomori runs from Lewis, she leaves behind the flowers made from the gang's energy. Lewis then sees that flower with both Vivi and Arthur's energy. After crushing Arthur's flower, he uses the petals from Vivi's flower to not only fix his locket but presumably to act like a GPS to Vivi's location
Lewis holds the blue flower, that pulls towards Vivi, then puts it's petals into his heart, so he can track her. So, yeah, he's not after Shiro. They just both happen to be after people who are in the same van.
Not sure it's entirely accurate to say Lance grabbed his shotgun to fight "whoever crashed into his shop" because we see him looking out the window and he would obviously recognize his nephew's van and grabbed his shotgun after seeing Lewis' possessed truck right behind them. So it'd probably be more accurate to say he grabbed his gun to fight off whoever was after Arthur and his friends. Overall great breakdown.
You mentioned how Mushi is based off of Musashi, additionally; Arthur Kingston is of course referencing the one true king of England, King Arthur (In Arthurian legend of course XP) And to of course parallel this, his uncle Lance is reference to Lancelot. I find a lot of Lewis's motivation for fighting (other than the times it's revenge) is because people touch his locket. His soul is bound to that locket so effectively the ghost is coming from IT, so when people touch the locket his goal is to get it back. Though it's jam on that when Arthur touches it it reveals how he truly feels, and a great notice is it flicking between how he sees the original image (Color faded, Lewis' eyes are missing and soulless) versus how Arthur remembers the image (Colors bright, Lewis' eyes are normal and showing joy and his enjoyment for being around his friend) which seems to juxtapose to Lewis how deluded he's been seeing things. All that in tow forewarns next video us finally seeing Lewis working together with his friends again, and let us hope that brings him peace.
Just a little help. in hellbent they show mystery bringing shiremori to life from just a flower with his blood in flash frame. I think she feeds off of him and in turn guards mystery. This happens when Louis and shiremori close in on the gang. Hoped that helps!
wait, you forgot the seeming mwmory wipe in the cavern, and arthur is only afraid of mystery because of the just prior vision/dream of mysteries full kitsune fox form. scared shitless.
I get angrier everytime he said it was his right arm not because of the error in left and rights but because it reminds me that i used to draw M.C’s ( a cyborg character i made that you can see on my icon) robot pieces on his left side when it was meant to be his right side because i got them mixed up
Yeah!! I was coming here to say that too! It was the easter egg I knew of first actually, I didn't know the wrestler dude was a rhythm heaven ref until now tho, that makes a lot of sense! 😅
A couple things you missed is Arthur's robot arm has some kind of anti-magic property, as seen at the beginning of Hellbent when he hits the dashboard of the van, which let's him start it again after Lewis originally disabled it. And then at the end of the video He touches Lewis' arm with his robot hand, and that revealed Lewis' face. And then, Lewis didn't dispel the illusion himself, Lance shot his heart and that's what dispelled it.
I would just like to point out something. In this video you said Mystery started with 6 tails in his Kitsune form. I counted, and he started with 7 tails
So I just want to state one impression I got from the original Mystery Skulls video. When the three are falling in that trap hole and the mirror reflects those images, I had always interpreted that as what had happened to Lewis in the cave and the guilt that corresponded. Arthur gets possessed by the arm which is consequently ripped off by Mystery. Therefore reflecting the role he had played in Lewis's death. Then you have Mystery which is the most guess work one for me. It could be that it was he who broke the possession off of Arthur which is why the mirror cracks as it does, or it could be that his true form is stronger than Lewis so that Lewis couldn't truly show his true form. Finally I thought the reason why Vivi had black eyes was because she witnessed Lewis's death. If you go to where Mystery is watching the playback of Lewis's death and pause right before it shows Arthur being possessed by whatever it was that possessed him. You can see Vivi at the bottom of the pit of spike where there is a cave entrance. So she must have seen his final moments. Anyways that was the impressions I got from that specific scene. Hope you enjoyed my explanation like I enjoyed yours. I learned quite a bit from this video and I appreciate it. This story is very fascinating and seeing how others have taken the hints and clues is very interesting as well. I love how it makes us feel like we are also solving a mystery.
I think the liquids coming from mystery’s heart are tied to the pain each of his friends went through: Purple and pink: Lewis dying Blue and green: vivi get stabbed by shiro Orange and yellow: Arthur getting taken by Lewis or having his arm ripped off Black and white: shiro being destroyed And I think Arthur’s hand seen that he was weakened and possessed him
Hold on what if Arthur's evil hand took control of mystery and mystery has no control of it and they have to find a way to stop Arthur's evil hand before mystery is gone for ever.
So I'm just discovering this animated series as a fan of the Mystery Skulls band, I was wondering if the Mystery Skulls animated series was official along with the original album/band?
As far as I know this animated series started just as a fan made project, but so many people discovered the band through these animations (and the animations are just so impressive) that now the band and animation crew work together! Though the animation crew comes up with their ideas and characters on their own, and just set everything to the Mystery Skulls’ music.

My personal theory regarding Arthur searching for Lewis is that Vivi and Arthur’s memories were somehow erased/altered after Lewis died and Mystery bit off Arthur’s arm. I’ve heard a good point about how in “Ghost”, when we see Vivi’s eyes glow bright pink, that might’ve been her memory of the accident being deleted (since we can see Vivi at the bottom of the cavern where Lewis died, so she likely saw him turn into a ghost.)
Also, Lewis most likely didn’t know Arthur was possessed when he pushed him off, because otherwise he wouldn’t blame him as much as he did, and Arthur wouldn’t be surprised to discover Lewis is dead. The green spirit that possessed Arthur probably fed on his jealousy towards Lewis and amplified.
Also Hellbent is definitely my favorite of the videos. The song is a banger, and the visual of the car chase are very cool.

I've been thinking alot about the relationship between Mystery and Shiro. Could it be prossible that Mystery purposely created Shiro because he was lonely? But when Shiro became power hungry he turned to Mushi for help.

Shiro was Mystery's henchman. She fought the Vivi's ancestor ALONGSIDE Mystery in the past. That's why she's confused when she sees mystery working with Vivi.
judging by the way shiro reacts to vivi and mystery working together, and the way mystery shugs like "what can you do" it doesn't seem like mushi and mystery ever teamed up in the past, more likely that they were antagonistic until the very end and shiro is flabbergasted that mystery is now suddenly teamed up with his "former enemy"

TBH, all of them are my favourite episodes. As for characters, well it’s without a shadow of doubt that mystery is my favourite character. Partially because it’s him who brought me to the series and part due to his character design

At 9:30 you can see 8 different colors couming out of the heart - i would think, that those are belonging to the nine tails, and the powers of the kitsune (which is also linked to it's emotions, so not that far off). Mystery's powers likely to be sort of SEALED, and not simply HIDDEN. It can unseal it's powers, but we doesn't know the exact reasons, why that seal was placed upon it (i think it might have some connection to the bloodline of Vivi, like being a protector of the family). Each flowing color should belongs to one of the tails - the last one still hidden, not unsealing the true form's full power, but i believe it's there.
I 100% forgot about Arthur's arm by the time the recent one came out so I was pretty confused about the ending. in fact, I hadn't even realized Mystery was the one who removed it in the first place. Needless to say, as much as I love the story, I usually don't pull myself away from the music enough to really piece together the events. Thanks for the explanation

Vivi's black eyes signify the curse on her. When she was sleeping, her eyes glowed and Lewis was being erased from a picture they took. Its possible that when they went to the cavern vivi got cursed and its the reason why she, Arthur, and mystery cant remember that Lewis died or where they last saw him. Her curse was spreading to those around her and erasing all evidence of Lewis specifically.
Lewis punches shiromori because his heart is his weakness and she was still holding on to it. He gets very defensive over his heart.
Lewis wasn't chasing shiromori, he was chasing down Arthur to get revenge. He only had a change of heart after tossing him and seeing Arthur's confused face.

One minor note to bring up
When Shiomori runs from Lewis, she leaves behind the flowers made from the gang's energy.
Lewis then sees that flower with both Vivi and Arthur's energy.
After crushing Arthur's flower, he uses the petals from Vivi's flower to not only fix his locket but presumably to act like a GPS to Vivi's location
I don't think Lewis was so much chasing Shiromori so much so that he recognized that following her/the flowers would lead him to Vivi/Arthur
Lewis holds the blue flower, that pulls towards Vivi, then puts it's petals into his heart, so he can track her. So, yeah, he's not after Shiro. They just both happen to be after people who are in the same van.

Not sure it's entirely accurate to say Lance grabbed his shotgun to fight "whoever crashed into his shop" because we see him looking out the window and he would obviously recognize his nephew's van and grabbed his shotgun after seeing Lewis' possessed truck right behind them. So it'd probably be more accurate to say he grabbed his gun to fight off whoever was after Arthur and his friends. Overall great breakdown.

You mentioned how Mushi is based off of Musashi, additionally;
Arthur Kingston is of course referencing the one true king of England, King Arthur (In Arthurian legend of course XP) And to of course parallel this, his uncle Lance is reference to Lancelot.
I find a lot of Lewis's motivation for fighting (other than the times it's revenge) is because people touch his locket. His soul is bound to that locket so effectively the ghost is coming from IT, so when people touch the locket his goal is to get it back. Though it's jam on that when Arthur touches it it reveals how he truly feels, and a great notice is it flicking between how he sees the original image (Color faded, Lewis' eyes are missing and soulless) versus how Arthur remembers the image (Colors bright, Lewis' eyes are normal and showing joy and his enjoyment for being around his friend) which seems to juxtapose to Lewis how deluded he's been seeing things.
All that in tow forewarns next video us finally seeing Lewis working together with his friends again, and let us hope that brings him peace.
Just a little help. in hellbent they show mystery bringing shiremori to life from just a flower with his blood in flash frame. I think she feeds off of him and in turn guards mystery. This happens when Louis and shiremori close in on the gang. Hoped that helps!

I get angrier everytime he said it was his right arm not because of the error in left and rights but because it reminds me that i used to draw M.C’s ( a cyborg character i made that you can see on my icon) robot pieces on his left side when it was meant to be his right side because i got them mixed up

A couple things you missed is Arthur's robot arm has some kind of anti-magic property, as seen at the beginning of Hellbent when he hits the dashboard of the van, which let's him start it again after Lewis originally disabled it. And then at the end of the video He touches Lewis' arm with his robot hand, and that revealed Lewis' face.
And then, Lewis didn't dispel the illusion himself, Lance shot his heart and that's what dispelled it.

So I just want to state one impression I got from the original Mystery Skulls video. When the three are falling in that trap hole and the mirror reflects those images, I had always interpreted that as what had happened to Lewis in the cave and the guilt that corresponded. Arthur gets possessed by the arm which is consequently ripped off by Mystery. Therefore reflecting the role he had played in Lewis's death. Then you have Mystery which is the most guess work one for me. It could be that it was he who broke the possession off of Arthur which is why the mirror cracks as it does, or it could be that his true form is stronger than Lewis so that Lewis couldn't truly show his true form. Finally I thought the reason why Vivi had black eyes was because she witnessed Lewis's death. If you go to where Mystery is watching the playback of Lewis's death and pause right before it shows Arthur being possessed by whatever it was that possessed him. You can see Vivi at the bottom of the pit of spike where there is a cave entrance. So she must have seen his final moments. Anyways that was the impressions I got from that specific scene. Hope you enjoyed my explanation like I enjoyed yours. I learned quite a bit from this video and I appreciate it. This story is very fascinating and seeing how others have taken the hints and clues is very interesting as well. I love how it makes us feel like we are also solving a mystery.

So I'm just discovering this animated series as a fan of the Mystery Skulls band, I was wondering if the Mystery Skulls animated series was official along with the original album/band?
As far as I know this animated series started just as a fan made project, but so many people discovered the band through these animations (and the animations are just so impressive) that now the band and animation crew work together! Though the animation crew comes up with their ideas and characters on their own, and just set everything to the Mystery Skulls’ music.
