Congratulations on the 338 subscribers Flinter. You deserve all of you success. Great channel and content. Thank you for continuing to stick to your format that has brought you here.
Meat loss on the .338 is way out of whack. Is it a powerful round, yes. Is it a 20mm anti tank round? No… they need to dial the meat loss and trophy damage down a fair bit.
I do agree with what your saying and it definitely needs toned back, however think it as more of a reason to deter gamers from using “higher power calibers” the devs want you tracking and taking better placed shots so if you just one tap everything and make the same amount of money there’s no point of using a “proper caliber” at least that’s how I see it. What do you think?
I got a almost maxed out 5 star elk yesterday with the .338. I shot it from 837 yards and at that distance got a 5 star hunt rating and much less meat loss. So the 300 is for normal hunt ranges, 338 is for long range hunting. Also you do in fact need to account for windage at those longer ranges. I wasn't sure at the time and my POI was quite a bit left of my POA. Awesome being able to hunt at those ranges though vs COTW.
I agree the ballistics and range adds a whole new level to hunting that COTW is lacking. That being said COTW has vastly more content which understandably comes with time. The meat and potatoes are here for a GREAT game, providing they add a lot more content, fix the bugs, and tweak the weapons/focus on realism this should turn into something amazing imo.
I'm really hoping they bring the brown bear back to transylvania. Would be awesome for more bear types. Maybe a grizzly map in future too. Have it so they can attack you haha
Just shot an absolute STUD of a 5 star moose, my first 5 star in the game as I was watching this video. I only had a tier 5 weapon so I had to crawl within about 100 yards, I was shaking. This game is so realistic I love it.
yessir, it's made for looooong range. And very effective. Closer up you want lower caliber to save more meat and bigger score. But yessir, you are correct.
It was developed to be an intermediate machine gun cartridge between 308 and 50 bmg. 308 was intended to be a smaller battle rifle cartridge compared to a 30-06. 50 BMG means Browning machine gun, not big marksman gun. 338 Lapua has a fairly shallow shoulder and a lot of body taper, like other cartridges designed for machine gun use.

The sound in this game is all beyond amazing. Most of the time, I just go there watch the animals, enjoy the sounds. The animals feels so alive, that on many occasions I just have no heart to shoot one, so I go away with nothing.
I think gameplay mechanics wise, the game has two calibers that are appropriate for each "tier" of wildlife. A slightly weaker one that will not lose much meat but will let them run for a while without a heart shot, and a slightly stronger one that will knock its tier down instantly in most cases. Like for white tail and mule deer, there's the .243 and the .308. For the bear, elk, and moose, there's .300 win mag and .338 lapua. For smaller predators there's .30-30 and .223 (really not sure what's meant to be the stronger one in this pair).
Hey flint I’ve noticed if you use your hunter sense while scooped in it will tell you in the top right if you’re in the recommended joule range for that distance/animal.
Moose are fine, shot one at 160yds with 300Win and the thing shrugged it off not once but twice on 2 different trips to the swamp lmao. On the 2nd hunt I did find him again and neck shot it....both the flesh wounds were broadside and lost all energy on a rib and barely poked the lung
Great video as always and I’m sure you know, but there’s a way to not eject the bullet after a shot, so you can stay aimed down the scope. Which is nice
The .338 Lapua is used as a lighter anti-material rifle in the military. The devs should have used the Winchester Magnum or Remington version of the .338 for hunting. the lapua is designed for hunting vehicles, not moose, ( yes I know a moose is as heavy as a small car)

I kinda agree that a “light” tier 6 rifle might be in order. Maybe something chambered in 6.5 creedmore would be cool. Extremely fast flat round. But still under 30 caliber projectile.
I wish there was a sort of option for choosing a load to hunt with too. A 300 win mag is a lot less likely to destroy a deer when you use a 125g bullet instead of a bullet between 150-180. I'd be interested to see how far you could find and take a shot on some of these bigger animals too, makes me wonder if a 400-500 yard shot would yield less meat wastage due to lower joules.
I personally think 30-06 would be really good low tier 6 weapon Since I've hunted red deer irl with it and it feels just about right But also, it's really good for roe hunting since it's doesn't destroy the meat that much
You can hunt damn near anything with a .30-06 with the right ammo loads. My stepfather in law used to hunt pronghorn with it in Colorado, but he'd also bring some really light handloads with him in case he saw a jackrabbit.

I imagine the .338 is for what the .338 is for in real life hunting-shooting big game at very long distances. Let it lose some energy to about 600 yards of air resistance.
The way the antlers aren't rigid with the skull and sort of take a moment to "pick up" the animation as the head idles back and forth in the trophy screen is somewhat off-putting, makes them look like a loose tooth.

another questions for real life hunters: Why are headshots that unpopular? In my opinion a headshot ist the most painless way I can think of (as far as I can judge without getting a headshot myself) .
It's a lot smaller target than a broadside shot so a greater chance of missing or wounding the animal. Then If it's a animal you're wanting to mount then the head of the animal would be more than likely messed up.
Hey there, I know I am really late to this video but I’m also just now getting into the hunting game idea. I was wondering if you’d recommend this game over others and what are your reasonings? Sorry for the random question but watching this playlist has me really wanting to try it out.
My honest opinion I think that’s game has WAY more potential than CoTW because that have maxed out call of the wild this tho I think all they need is bows and I would buy
This game definitely has a lot of potential and I absolutely love playing it. Can’t wait to see the bows added to the game, rares, and whatever else they create!
If you want to travel up hill really fast and youre not worried about spooking animals just keep jumping while running up hill. Is it just me or is it quite a bit faster? 😂
I found a monster 3 star adult moose so I have high hopes he will be my second 5 star moose when he gets to mature. I think 7mm rem mag would be a great smaller tier 6 weapon or 30-06.
I don't understand the logic behind the 7mm-08, it's so close to .308 that if anything it should have been added later on when more guns come. I feel like a 30-06 would have been a better option to bridge the gap on .338 but then again 300 mag is already in the game. Maybe even something like a 45-70 or .500 mag to bridge the gap on distances at the very least.
@@WilliamStewart1 I agree with that about the 7mm-08 it’s a caliber I love in real life but it’s basically a little less powerful 308. being a 308 necked down to 7mm. I think 6.5 creedmor, 260 Remington, or 270 Winchester would have been great choices for that in between 243 and 308. But I think there is a good chance most of these calibers will eventually make it into the game.
@@arnowinchester591 technically a 308 has a little more power than a 270 even if it feels like it does more damage with the math a 308 will have a bit more power because a 308 is usually a 150-180 grain bullet and a 270 will use a 120-150 grain bullet and with the extra sectional density from the .308 diameter bullet vs the .277 diameter bullet from the 270 even though there foot pounds of energy will be about the same. The diameter of the bullet will cause a bigger wound channel.
Do you know how to fix the issue with mouse clipping? When I’m trying to take follow up shots or running shots I am unable to fire. I notice my cursor along the edges of my screen whenever I turn too much one direction.
I think instead of Weapon tiers they should just show the power of the rifle. The encyclopedia shows the recommended impact forces for each animal, so you can just look it up and take the apropriate weapon. I've bought the .338 expecting it to be the perfect fit for the biggest animal in game, the moose. But no, it's even overpowered for those. If I had known that I wouldn't have bought it before the .308. The tier system says nothing about the actual performance of the rifle in my opinion.
Actually I think the Moose are kind of realistic is there's lots of stories elk incredibly hard to kill compared to Moose it's in the way the bone structure and the way the muscle structure is on a moose it's a lot easier to get into the vital Zone

My honest opinion I think that’s game has WAY more potential than CoTW because that have maxed out call of the wild this tho I think all they need is bows and I would buy
this game is a lot more realistic and it’s a lot harder to track unless you use hunter sense and even then it’s still more hard than cotw
This game definitely has a lot of potential and I absolutely love playing it. Can’t wait to see the bows added to the game, rares, and whatever else they create!
Instead of purchasing the land do the missions you can usually unlock it within three missions and plus some missions give you rare animals
I do plan on doing some of the missions today in stream 😄
@@Flintergaming sweet well I will definitely watch while I'm at work LOL what time are you planning on streaming
Can't wait for the 7mm only video
I guess that the large meat loss is because of the energy being larger than the recommended for that animal. Long range shots could be better.
338 is most likely just for trophy hunting, 300 would be for selling is my guess. Less chance to lose them with the 338
If you want to travel up hill really fast and youre not worried about spooking animals just keep jumping while running up hill. Is it just me or is it quite a bit faster? 😂
I’ve watched my girlfriend do that and somehow she slid and fell to her death 😂😂😂
30-06 either high T5 or low T6
well done can you help me with a question on Way of the Hunter
So close to 338 comments 2 years later
I love this game but I wish my graphics card could keep up with it
I found a monster 3 star adult moose so I have high hopes he will be my second 5 star moose when he gets to mature.
@@BMXrider915 my .270 Win is consistently more powerful than my .308, so wouldn't that be somewhere between the .308 and the .300 then?
@@arnowinchester591 technically a 308 has a little more power than a 270 even if it feels like it does more damage with the math a 308 will have a bit more power because a 308 is usually a 150-180 grain bullet and a 270 will use a 120-150 grain bullet and with the extra sectional density from the .308 diameter bullet vs the .277 diameter bullet from the 270 even though there foot pounds of energy will be about the same. The diameter of the bullet will cause a bigger wound channel.
im waiting for the 470k subscriber special
Does anyone know if the new game is coming to GeForce now? I purchased it on steam but can’t play it until it gets added to GeForce now
So I just got enough to purchase the .338. Should I buy or just get the .300.
Headshots should mean no meat loss. Wonder if it effects trophy at all.
it will kill the score rating, if you do not care go with it
Yeah we’ve shot a whitetail with a .338lm IRL. The insides were fluid but meat lose was not that significant
😳
I wish I could play this game but it crashes every single time I try to start it.
What’s your favorite caliber in the game rn? Mines .300 wm
Do you know how to fix the issue with mouse clipping? When I’m trying to take follow up shots or running shots I am unable to fire. I notice my cursor along the edges of my screen whenever I turn too much one direction.
.308 even when its tier 5 rifle it will drop a bear in one good shot without damaging too much.
I think longer shots with the .338 is better. At least from what I've seen
Love the vid man
I think instead of Weapon tiers they should just show the power of the rifle.
Yeah the .308 is the best overall caliber in the game right now in regards to being able to hunt the most animals effectively.
Actually I think the Moose are kind of realistic is there's lots of stories elk incredibly hard to kill compared to Moose it's in the way the bone structure and the way the muscle structure is on a moose it's a lot easier to get into the vital Zone
