The three golden rules: long over short and vice versa; divide into thirds, never in half; AND volume on top, narrow below, and vice versus. When I think an outfit looks ‘off’, it’s usually because I’ve forgotten one of these guiding principles. Thank you for reminding us, Chi.
Yes these rules have always been crucial for good proportions, yet so few people know they have existed for so long, and still are relevant to this day. I am here taking a refresher on all these rules .
These videos are SOOO helpful Chi! Most of us are regular people who can't afford a personal stylist like celebs, but your videos are a great way to get that "Stylist treatment" for no cost. Thank you soo much 🙏🙏. I know your channel is going to get so popular because of the genuine effort you put into all your videos!! 👏
I realized the longer blazers were much more flattering on me since I was so short up top. After watching your video, I realized I have been doing it correctly. Since I am long-legged, I'll also wear long skirts/dresses with my long blazers, but I always emphasize my waist, and it seems to work.
Chi, what makes you such a brilliant stylist is your objective eye and willingness to experiment to improve things. As a professional editor, it amazed me to learn how few people are able to be objective about anything relating to themselves, like their writing or personal style. I was always enthusiastic to make changes to my writing, outfits, etc., suggested by others, if they were real improvements, no one gets everything perfect all the time (except maybe you). Your good, objective eye is rare and special!
Chi, you have come a long way on your channel. Your videos are clear and concise, with excellent examples and explanations. But I have to say I do miss your sense of humor! 😊❤
This video is perfectly timed! I just bought two blazers and I love them, but they’re longer than I usually wear. I was struggling with the thought of returning them, but then I saw this video in my feed. Thanks, Chi! Hughs from 🌺 Mary in Florida
Such great illustrations to show the wrong and right proportions, Chi! And I love the 3/4 sleeve tip for jackets, and the shorter jacket with the flared peplum over the below length skirt. Edit: at 1:48
You have such a talent and understanding for dressing us 'small' ladies! I love your videos and want to say thank you very much, my styling has improved and I tuck in everything now! ❤
I got a new long blazer which I absolutely love. I was not confident about how to style it and didn’t want to return it either. This is giving me some very great tips - so thank you! Indeed a great video !
Thank you for this as I LOVE blazers. I find if I wear all the same color except for blouse, it works. Like everything black(even shoes) but a short light top. I did this on a recent vaca and it worked! But I have a light pink one and when I wear it with dark outfit, it makes me look way short. I am thinking of trying the short skirt route thank you. I love the blazer and short look for summer. With skin color wedges, I look so much taller! I always roll my blazer sleeves. They are never right lol(too long). ps: I find padded shoulder long blazers help too. Especially with flare pants!!
I didn't like blazer for many years as they always swallow me (I am 5'4" and slim). But over the years, I found shorter length, fitted blazer looks very good with high waisted, straight leg dress pants with heels. Heels don't need to be high, 1 to 2" heels can lift the pants hem off the ground will do. Whenever I dress like that to office, I get compliments that I looked very professional, tall and smart! Long blazer is still a no for me as it takes too much effort to look good. But CHI offered some really good options. I like the long blazer with shorts idea, might give it a try.
These are brilliant tips. I have found all of these to be true for me. Oh, one more tip I like: I get my blazers a little on the small side since I look better with them open anyway. Then the arms fit me better too.
What great tips, Chi. I also look better if a long blazer has a fitted waist, and by wearing heels with them (2-3” is the highest I can stand). I do prefer long sleeves because they keep me warmer, but I have them shortened to the correct length, the wrist-bone. Very long and oversized/baggy is a disastrous silhouette on us petites. I did just buy two double-breasted blazers, even though I’m a rectangle shape, but I think they work ok because the buttons are set in that V-shape that narrows at the waist and widens at the shoulder. They don’t make me look as chunky as those with the classic, full crossover flap and straight rows of buttons. Small shoulder pads can be helpful, too.
Loved this video. .so helpful. Big busted and 5 foot small frame...I can't do double brested blazer's at all. Yes 3 quarter sleeves are a game changer. 😉
Happily, the “new” skirt length coming in is knee-length. I always found most “mini” skirts really flattering, they come to about 3-4 inches above my knees, a good length for me. (At age 63, I don’t dare go as short as in my youth, I don’t want to be criticized for it). Just covering the kneecap is a good length, too, more flattering than mid-calf “midis”, for sure. It shows the narrow place just there, before the calf widens. I’m 5’4”, but was 5’6” in my youth, and very short-waisted.
Chi, I love your videos and I learn a lot with them, but have you thought of summarizing your tips at the end of you videos? Sometimes I get a little lost with so many tips 🤭
I'm 5 2 as well... just what I was looking for.. The jackets that are hip length on models are mid thigh for me and look awful! Thank you for the detailed video❤
This video comes at the right moment! I was thinking about cropping my long blazer. Would it be possible to wear flats with a long blazer or is the body too short then? Maybe platforms as an alternative?
Thank you Chi! Awesome video! Very helpful information. I always have trouble with blazers. The short ones make me look wider, but so do the long ones.
I learned from you how much better I looked at 5'2", when i wore shorter jackets, rather than the usual blazer length. Thank you. It's all about the proportions. Perhaps a blazer would look better if worn with shorts or a mini-skirt on younger women, but I am not likely to choose that option. I think I could get away with a blazer, if it and the trousers were the same color.
Love all those fashions she wears Wearing all that variety si beautifully Without any intimates underneath But on top the blazers all look good With various blouses that she wears And even a blazer without a blouse Looks good too wearing nothing beneath
Great video Chi! I always steered away from blazers because I couldn't make them look good 😂 I do have question, how to wear a blazer with a pear shape? Blazers are always wide and mostly end at hips which is the widest part, making me look wide as a whole
I'm 5'1" and curvy, and whenever I want to wear skirts I just end up frustrated. Anything longer than my knees makes me feel like it overwhelms my petite frame, and minis don't look good because they really emphasize my butt and it looks inappropriate. Knee-length would actually be nice but the last time I wore a skirt that length I felt so uncomfortable because you could see a lot of skin. So I just avoid it and wear jeans or pants instead.
I wear mini skirts only in winter, so that I can wear them with dark, thick tights - I think if the skirt, tights and shoes are the same colour the outfit would be lengthening, but others with more expertise might like to weigh in on that. Added benefit is they also smooth out my knees, which are not as cute as they were in my youth!
I usually follow your fashion tips but now I have to disagree with that. Probably it depends on where you lived and how you perceive the "flattering". I live in Japan and most of the Japanese girls are wearing the way you said it's "unflattering" but I perceive it very elegant and put together (not the colours tho, but the proportions are good) and totally unflattering the one with the short dress.
The three golden rules: long over short and vice versa; divide into thirds, never in half; AND volume on top, narrow below, and vice versus. When I think an outfit looks ‘off’, it’s usually because I’ve forgotten one of these guiding principles. Thank you for reminding us, Chi.
Genial 💯🇦🇷
So true. Wow! That helps. Here I was thinking I hate everything I own bur I was splitting my outfits in half, not thirds. Thank you thank you
But what when one has a tummy to hide
Really simplified that!

Your hair looks absolutely sophisticated and elegant.
Thank you so much! ❤
I can't believe what a difference tucking in the shirt makes! Wow! Great video, as always!!!!
I showed you page to a friend and all of a sudden she's looking so much better. I know she's applying your techniques and so am I. So thank you Chi.

I've been noticing that 3/4 sleeves look MUCH better, too. Now I have a lot of tailoring to do..
Another great video with visuals that make sense!
Oh, that's why I saw long blazers with matching shorts. I never thought of that
Your videos always amaze me! I just thought long blazers were a no. I'm going to try it with shorts!
Thank you so much! ❣️
Thank you for doing this video. Blazers are always long on me but you helped me make it work!
Yaaay! ❣️
I totally understand you! You are always positive and so informative. Thank you!
Thank you so much! ❤

Try it. Works for me in summer when I need a light jacket.
I just was waiting for a video with this important information...thank you so much.

Glad you like them! ❤
I'm curious about your thoughts regarding belting blazers and if you like it, which belts you recommend, etc. :)
And I finally understood what mistakes I made...thank you❤

Chi, I love your videos and I learn a lot with them, but have you thought of summarizing your tips at the end of you videos? Sometimes I get a little lost with so many tips 🤭
A graphic with bullet points for each tip would be great! I would screen shot them and keep them in a Chi tips folder for future reference.
@@kimberlyperrotis8962 great idea!
I love that you think about so much (e.g. when you had the shorts on, I was thinking about workwear and you then went onto that answering my thought!)
Loved it!!!

Chi, i could not find the beautiful white wide leg pants you are wearing on your website. I'm based in India
I know right that happens to me or with capris
Subscribed, liked !
So long blazers will never work for us who wear long skirts and dresses only? :/

All you videos are excellent, but I miss your wonderful sense of humor that you used to show in your earlier vids!

Get your blazer tailored to fit your arms.
What about leggings
Yup definitely with even boot heels
That is assuming you have nice legs and sometimes that is not there
Your hair is short in some clips then longer and different colours lol
I can't understand half of what you're saying. Could you please speak more slowly?
I have to agree.
Have you changed you accent? You sound different. A bit harder to be understood than before, IMHO.
