  • My final walk in the Yorkshire Dales. Having packed away the tent and loaded it all back in to the car; I wasn't about to jump on the M6 and head home so soon! One more walk and the final of the Three Peaks to complete.

Also from Somerset, attempted the 3YP a couple of weeks ago, but only managed Pen Y Ghent and Whernside. Still bloody hard work! Not many hill walks like it in Som’t, unless you run up and down Jacob’s Ladder a few times 😂

      Hi Vicky,
That's very true about Somerset! Even Dunkery Beacon, being the highest point, doesn't compare to the fells of Yorkshire.
I hope you enjoyed your time up there. Good to hear from another local!

Great walk. Windy hill walks are tough though. Your camera mic coped brilliantly with the conditions.

Thanks, Marek. I had to reduce the volume by 40% in a couple of scenes but yes, despite being a RODE knock off, it does serve me well.
Hope you managed to keep sane and active through the next month. All the best.

Hit on lucky with the weather mind, although, it sounded dam windy towards the summit but still shorts and T Shirt weather for me now in Novemeber....Looked a good walk out and a successful trip to the Yorkshire Dales for you, cheers Alan

Thanks very much, Alan. That wind was something else! My microphone concealed most of it. This been the highlight of my 2020 by far!
Thanks for your support all the way through and all the best.

I know I've not left comments on the other videos Olly, but I have been watching all your Yorkshire Dales films with great interest. Hope you liked the area? I think you probably did from what I could see 😁 I've never climbed the Three Peaks, except Pen-y-Ghent, but the only reason I did that was because i was walking a bit of the Pennine Way between Malham and Hawes at the time. Nice to see you at Ribblehead, which I always thought was awesome. Malham Cove too which I see you walked along the top of. I just love that limestone pavement. Hope you do go back next year as you say you maybe will. Great set of videos Olly, thanks for sharing. Keep safe and all the best, Patrick 👍

      Hi Patrick,
I certainly did enjoy my time in Yorkshire. None of the "grim" that I'd been led to believe exists up there. Without a doubt, my greatest experience of the year!
I hope you do get to visit the other two peaks at some point and I know there is much, much more for me to discover. I have another video coming up from this trip... But the theme is... Sensitive! I'll try to upload it soon, although it's not greatly relevant to Yorkshire or its Dales.
I'm doing about as well as I can, thanks and hope you're doing good. All the best.

Hi Olly. Great video, and useful as I'm planning to do the same walk soon. I was thinking of going in the opposite direction (Plover Hill first). Is there any reason you'd avoid doing it that way? (bad descents etc). Thanks & all the best👍

    • @WalksWithOlly
      @WalksWithOlly  3 роки тому

      Hi Des,
Thanks for watching and for your comment. Doing Plover Hill first should be fine - it might even be easier to ascend those steps than it was to come down them! Your may need to take a very minor scramble on the way down from Pen y Ghent, if you travel the way I went up. It's still do-able; just needs a little bit of caution.
All the best and enjoy the walk.

Blimey Olly it was as windy on top of the Black Hill when we walked it and chucking down. Fantastic sweeping views on top. Hey, 'have a cuppa tea and see.' You're a poet and you don't know. Well, there was a lot of poetry in this trip. It was superb. Good going. Looking forward to future outings. Mark

Hi Mark. I remember that day and watching the cloud race across the hills! In Yorkshire, I just didn't see it coming. Even the forecast had been tame by comparison.
I sometimes walk with people who don't like to stop or pause for very long... But I feel they're missing out on the value of "tea time".
Anyway, thanks for your comment and I hope you keep active and well through the coming weeks. All the best.

Yes indeed! This was the final walk from my long weekend up in Yorkshire. I can't remember it now but yes, must've been quite a long drive back.
I would've stopped off for food on the way. On every trip since (especially with Scotland and the Lake District), I've made my departure day just that and nothing more. The drive home. No hiking.
Thank you for watching and commenting.

@@WalksWithOlly thanks for your reply, I've subscribed too😆. It was my birthday last week and I did Whernside for it with my dog. That's really gentle compared to this one. I can't wait to do this one and Ingleton soon. There are so many amazing places to hike here. I did Langden Brook today. Absolutely beautiful. P.s, I'm a woman 👀🤣 i was showing someone how to change their name on UA-cam and now it's stuck for 2 weeks as David. 🤣🤣 It's so cool that you travel so far just to hike. It really is one of the best hobbies in the world imo. 😁

Olly, you had great weather and great walking for your trip to the Dales. Pen y Ghent is a cool looking mountain and that is a pretty good looking path to the summit. Was definitely a bit blowy though it looked like a great day. Hope you are managing with the current lockdown in England and by next year we can get on with all our walking plans 😊

Thank you, Gerry. I'm glad I managed to squeeze this one in before heading home - although there was little doubt that I would make it.
I'm staying relatively local for these few weeks. Fingers crossed it doesn't get extended too far! Hope you're doing well over there. All the best.
