Pizza Tower stands out to me as the sort of game that can only come about from a development cycle that’s long on purpose instead of from unexpected delays. The devs have had five long years and almost a dozen publicly-available demos to not only figure out what works and what doesn’t, but polish what works to a mirror sheen. And when they deem the game as finally, unequivocally ready, they release it. No sooner, no later.
That's actually a really good point. So many of the demos are SO different from the final product, and I can confidently look at any of the older demos and go "god I'm glad they changed that", not in a condescending way but one of approval. They really took a hard look at their ideas, tested them thoroughly, and only kept what really works. When I first heard about Pizza tower a couple years ago I honestly though it was kind of ridiculous how long it was taking to make but now I realize just how much worse off we'd be if we'd gotten any of those older ideas instead of the real final product.
Might pick up just because Peppino reminds me of the owner of my favorite pizza place in Worcester. Man looked like he was one step away from exploding from shear stress and taking the entire pizzeria with him in a mushroom cloud of marinara sauce and mozzarella. That place was great, a large steak sandwich was like $10 with fries and a drink and if you were ordering off doordash there was an option to get cigarettes delivered too.
