  • In this episode we visit El Morro National Monument in New Mexico. Most have never heard of this small, but amazing park. While here, we hiked the Headland Trail and the Inscription Trail. What an great time in El Morro National Monument! We visited on November 13, 2023 and this was an excellent time to visit.
🏞️El Morro National Monument is a fascinating place in western New Mexico that preserves human history alongside natural beauty. It's a massive sandstone bluff rising 200 feet above the valley floor, with a reliable waterhole hidden at its base. This unique combination made El Morro a popular campsite for hundreds of years, attracting people from different cultures who left their mark on the cliffs.
Over 2,000 inscriptions and petroglyphs are protected by the National Park Service today. Unfortunately, the softness of the sandstone makes the famous inscriptions slowly disappear. In 1906, U.S. federal law prohibited further carving on the cliffs to protect this irreplaceable record of the past.
⛺While in the area we stayed in Bluewater Lake State Park Campground (Site 14) that sits just over an hour outside of the El Morrow NM.

What a fantastic place that few people have ever even heard of! The landscape was stunning and you two did a fantastic job of capturing that beauty! It looked as though you had the entire park to yourselves.

There were a few other people in the park while we were there, but crowds were definitely light! There is so much to be said for traveling in the off season or shoulder season!
