- In my quest to learn as much about the DC Universe as possible (being a new fan) I am in the process of consuming as much DC content as I can, which led me to THIS ABSOLUTELY UNDERRATED GEM!!!
Green Lantern: The Animated Series is a show that I had heard NOTHING about - all I knew was that it existed and that was IT. Because literally NO ONE talks about this show, I wasn't expecting it to be anything special - I chose to watch it because I wanted an introduction to the character of Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps, which I previously knew nothing about.
AND BOY WAS I IN FOR A SURPRISE WHEN THIS SHOW KILLED ME AND MURDERED MY SOUL IN THE BEST WAY POSSIBLE RAZER MY BELOVED
In this video I go through each episode (plus some extra content) and give a small recap and talk about my reactions. so SPOILERS because I am NOT holding anything back.

The worst part of being a comic book fan is being given the greatest most gut wrenching absolutely beautiful story and it goes nowhere because the company doesn't like where its going because it's either not marketable enough or not long lasting enough for them to make a longterm profit over time instead of just starting another run another bad part is your favorite super hero just being completely forgotten because his book didn't sell enough because the company completely dropped the ball with him (I miss you Sideways)
This show is great. If you want to see more of Razor watch Young Justice. He’s only in like two episodes, but that’s about as much extra Razor content as we get.
Wasn't the green lantern show canon to young justice
He was given a few panels in comics, but they were lazy background shots. Like, why burn a character that good?! Tielman, you are an enemy to comic fans for your deliberate decisions!!!
Young Justice is the best animated DC show, at least the first two seasons

A little explanation on how the Lantern Rings work, like you said before; The ring is attracted and chooses the best candidate for its corps. Though, the people chosen must exemplify/live by the emotion of the ring. Batman has used a few different rings before, but he often rejects the ring or can use it temporarily(Either because he was given permission by a Lantern or he embodies too many emotions, manily fear and will which are opposites).

Oh you need an extreme level of justifiable rage to have a red lantern ring come to you. The red lantern of earth; Dexx-Star is a cat and his back story is sad and his rage is beyond justifiable.
You need to be able to push pass fear to be a green lantern

14:33 i believe the reasons given for Batman is that he is mixed in his emotions so he qualify for both the green light of willpower and the yellow light of Fear, so because those emotions are natural enemies Fear weakening willpower and a large part of willpower being the ability to overcome fear, Batman is rejected by both. he is litterally to scary for the green lanterns and to ruled by will for the yellow lanterns
Superman is believed by fans to be disqualified do to him being a immigrant so he can't be a green lantern of earth because he is kryptonian and he can't be the the green lantern of krypton because he lives on earth. although Hal should totally ask the blue lanterns if he could give his buddy a ring
Lex Luthor did temporarily get the orange light of greed, but do the core having so few slots Larfleeze being the only member unless you also count white lanterns he lost it
another excuse could also be that the rings just find the nearest replacement not the best, so perhaps Guy gardener or any of the other green lanterns of earth were just closer then other heroes
Razer recently showed up in the main timeline of DC comics in current run of Green Lantern, issue 8.
There is some weird cross continuity with Razer's past in it

Thank you for your video analysis of the Green Lantern Animated Series. The characters, the writing, and the wonderful mix of comedy, drama, and pathos hooked me on this Epic Green Lantern Series that yes, had me in tears too.

26:29 I think the reason so many people died in GLTAS was because they were going to do an adaption of Blackest Night and for that to happen they needed a high body count.

I find out hilarious and romantic that Aaya and Razer are just jumping from show to show looking for each other.
Lex got the only other Orange ring in one comic run.
This show ruled pretty hard tho and for anything important was spot on for it's telling.

you said this was your 1st dive into DC animated universes, my only suggestion, if you watch them, watch Batman Beyond before Justice League Unlimited.
Saturday mornings with this show and Young Justice were iconic
As for why there're not many villains or heroes who are lanterns because in theory every species is supposed to have only one of them, except when they don't, but that is neither here or there.
As for Superman, they just explain it away saying that since he is kryptonian he doesn't qualify to be Earth's green lantern.
I never thought I would get closure for the end of the show. Thanks for the detective work!
10:52 Enjoying the review so far, but I wanted to note that sapphires are more COMMONLY blue, but come is a range of colors. It's a misconception that color defines a gemstone but it's actually more in what other minerals are present within the stone and how far down in the earth they are found. The color comes from the other things present in the area that defines what shade or hue they are. So sapphires being pink is actually real, but extremely rare.

Hahaha, this is fun. I got super into the Green Lantern lore when the comics were adding and building up all the Lantern corps lore in the 00s. Next you need to read Green Lantern: Rebirth, it's the start of all the stuff that inspired this. It's crazy bonkers.
Edit: Lex Luthor is more about greed, he got the orange lantern ring for a while. Superman doesn't get a ring 'cause kryptonians are too strong for OA to control. And Batman (and the batfamily by extent) has had a ring multiple time but refuses them every time 'cause he's gotta do shit without powers 'cause he's Batman.
The fact episodes 1-7 have someone die is something i havent noticed
Edit: you should really watch young justice, season 1 is beautiful and season 2 is... well, while the third one is passable, so... its completely worth it
Great video! in the comics there was a saga called darrkest night where the villains and heroes get rings. in don´t want to spoiled nothing but scarecrow whit fear ring is terrifing
From what I heard when it was airing, this show got cancelled due to low toy sales. To which almost every fan responded, “WHERE ARE THE TOYS?!!!”
Same thing happened with Young Justice, but then a high number of people watching it on Netflix convinced Warner Brothers to give it another shot as a streaming show. Funny enough, Razer was briefly in Young Justice. Apparently, every part of this show that doesn’t contradict Young Justice’s continuity is canon to it.

14:09 It takes more than just being insanely angry or inducing fear in a large number of people to be chosen by the respective Lantern Corps; There's quite a few other factors that determine whom will be chosen for a ring.

I watched Green Lantern the Animated Series as it aired and I loved it! I really wish they would do a followup. A second season, a movie, SOMETHING!

Each movie also has varying tones and quality.

when Razer calls out for the Aya-Monitor and she says "yes my love" is burned in my memory. Im glad I got to watch this show live, discussing it week to week was great.

Anyway, the same team that made the GL Animated series made Batman: Shadow Of The Bat and you should really REALLY check it out- same kinda humor but with a major twist on the old Batman lore- like Alfred being a total badass and Batman getting a partner that's not Robin- plus magic, psychos you've never heard of instead of the same tired villains we've seen so often, and the same animation as the GLAS.
Razor is the Zuko of the DC Universe.
I watched this show as a kid and I loved it. If this show had another season, maybe they can put a spotlight on Kyle Rayner and touch on the fridging.

And Green Lantern Emerald Knights- both feature Nathan Fillion as Hal Jordan.
Emerald Knights is particularly great since it's short stories about lesser known alien Lanterns.
Both movies take place in space!

The cancellation of this show was a crime. Razor X Aya ftw. Also Razor did a cameo in Young Justice.
I watched it as it aired. It was amazing and the weekly wait was horrible. Definitely a tragedy it didn't continue.
This show is so good I love it so much razer is definitely my fav character him and aya are everything to me this show is so underrated if you like this show I highkey recommend justice league the animated series,justice league unlimited,teen titans ,young justice and static shock
I watched this multiple time over and this is some of the best tv every and as a green lantern buff raser and iya is new. the guardian are 100% corrupt but most ok (there crimes include geniside enslavement forced gentic testing bringing the apocolates twice and many other crime). and hal is cool 100% of the time. red lanterns are not hate but rage small different and in the comics 99% of red lanterns are unable to remove there rings compared to other corps. in the comics those bugs help make the yellow lanters which would be cool if seaon 2 happened
