I was out with my wife yesterday, shopping and hanging out at an outdoor mall. Nice sunny day. I chose to wear a nice dark polo shirt rather than my normal ratty t-shirt. Simple thing, but definitely upped my game. Stood up a little taller knowing that I was looking like a smart-casual adult.
Love it Allan!
"Polished Casual" I love it, I think I can relate to that classification. Great video.
Thank you very much!
I'm here because your style sensibility is where I want to be. The important thing you always mention is fit. When layering like you were in this video, good fit is vital.
Thanks for watching Jeff!
Some good pointers for dressing when living in a warmer climate. Here in Georgia it doesn't really get cold until December.
I like new term "Polished Casual"👍
Thank you!
Great video glad you posted keep them coming thanks
Polished casual nice term and easy to abide by. I must admit flappy placates is another one for the stylish man’s dictionary
Keep it up John
Haha! Thanks Michael!
I think it is called "smart casual" ,I have heard that term before...
Great video John!!! Always pick up some tips from you. 'Polished casual' is a great term. I feel like that is my look as well.
Thanks Edward!
Looks like I found my Christmas gifts for my Brother and Dad. The Collars & Co is a great pick up! Thanks!
You’re welcome John!
Spot on, John! Great advice! ‘Polished casual’ is an apt description! Thanks!
Perfect! Thanks Andy!
I like the “polished casual.”😎
Thank you!
I've heard of a lot of geographical style categories: New England Dad, Southern Preppie, etc. I've been following you for a while, and I get a lot of compliments, so I've started calling my look California Wine Country, or as you say Polished casual. Everyone acknowledges that the look is sharp, so thanks for the inspiration.
Yes! “California Wine Country”! I love it!
I like the term "Polished Casual." Makes since if you live in a warm climate area and don't wear suits or dress pants often like myself who also lives in Southern California. Southern California is very causal and my wardrobe is mostly shorts and t-shirts/short sleeve button ups which I wear year round. Being in my 50s, I noticed most of the clothes were like my 22 year old son - logo t-shirts, lots of Nike shoes (used to be a sneakerhead), and cargo shorts. I've been transforming my closet over the past half year and now go out looking "Polished Casual" and I definitely seen a big change to how people react to me from my family to strangers.
Thanks for commenting Charles!
The reason why im one of your avid subscriber is that you've made to wear and express your style with a lot of class and sleek.. and it is contagious.. Thanks Man... more videos..
Thank you very much! Appreciate your comment Jasper!
Thank you ! John
Perfect timing post for new threads this Fall I desperately need. Started out at Men's Wearhouse with a new pair of Joseph Abboud Leather upper Cognac sneakers. Next stop, whatever John recommends!!
John, please do not apologize for giving your opinion. That is why you post! As a woman, I can assure you that men need this. We are over that sloppy boy look!!❤
Thank you John. 👍🏻
Hi John
Always Enjoy Your Fashion Tip Videos.
I’m 60 and a Smart Casual Guy .
Love The Channel
Thank you very much Leonard!
Great video as usual, thanks John
Thank you Felix!
Solid advice John, thanks.
Thanks for watching!
Another great video my friend. I love your term polish causal. As well as all the other terms people are using. Can't go wrong with being simple, smart & polish look for us guys over 40.
#Legend
Thanks for watching Gregg! Legend!
Thanks again John-another great and informative video. Appreciate the display of what you are describing. Sure makes it easier when you are looking at it.😊
Thanks Greg! Appreciate that!
There’s just something about your intro that’s “fresh and clean”. I have spent many years in Vegas and it has the feeling as if I’m checking into one of the hotels!👍🏽
Intro is great - agreed!
Great video John!
You’re welcome Chris!
Another great video, John!
Thank you!
Your dress code is spot on, in the UK we would say smart casual. I like your end choice just a bit smarter with dress shoes and the jacket, very me.
I like the video.... as a consultant for the men's wearhouse....I like the fact that you make style and fashion simple and easy to understand..... thanks and keep up the great work
Thank you Mark!
Yes, I have seen dress sneakers with suits and they look sharp. That said, I see them on men much younger. My gauge is you, the fashion therapist. I don’t think I could pull it off as well as someone younger. It would look like I’m trying to be something I am not. You’re like the Jiminy Cricket for all those Pinocchio and that’s high praise.
Thank you Roberto!
Some great combinations John.
You have helps me so much with my dress sense and style.
I enjoy looking good at 59 and wish I had done it years ago.
People to notice and right or wrong judge us on appearance.
Another great video 👍
Thank you Peter!
Don’t forget the accessories! Nothing classes up your look like a nice timepiece on the wrist!
True!
Or a pin. 😀 I like to add one to my cardigan sweaters.
Glasses / shades can be an accessory. I now have a collection of glasses and shades that I swap out to coordinate with my outfit.
I also swap out my watch straps.
Thank you for this.
Thank you for watching!
Good stuff John!
Thank you!
Chinos with a bit of stretch, excellent recommendation
Going to have to check out Collars and Co, because most collars on the polos breakdown
Absolutely agree! Thanks for watching!
Boy a lot need this video!
Thank you for watching Janine!
I often refer to your videos and real men real style videos to My clients at work...
Great video
Thank you!
Thanks my man.
please show something to wear in winter .
By the time a man is 40, he should have discovered what I call his "enduring style." I think he can figure it out by looking at what he's worn for the past five years that he's either kept or directly replaced and feels good wearing. Details can change with the times, but his "enduring style" should be recognizable over the course of several years.
Props to how you describe “enduring style” … cuts to the point.
I'm becoming a big fan of "ivy style" and "preppy style" - maybe you can do a video about that?
Thanks for the suggestion!
I've taken some interest in the style … not so much as a fan, but because my genes have sculpted my face so people will see me as a nerd/geek/brain. Ivy style and preppy style seem like ways to *lean into* my inherent looks.
I would also be interested in some info about the style, including some variants. (Most of the stuff available online has hot young models dressed in those styles … which isn't exactly the kind of model that I connect with as a potential consumer.
In the UK we call it smart casual......👍
Your killing it with the videos but what about the pants? Where can we find good pants n. 42” waist?
Great video John! Was this the video you shot where it was 102 degrees outside??? #legend
Haha! Yes! Bonus points for paying attention to Instagram!
@@40OverFashion always my friend! 🤘🤘🤘
Okay
Love modern dress allowing contrasting colors. Matching colors seems so bland now.🕺🕺
I checked out that link. The polos are nice, sure, but they're just a bit out of my price range. I like the zip-up sweater that you have in the middle picture at 3:30. Which brand is that? Speaking of sweaters, I don't like Kohls that much, but they do have an amazing sweater from a brand called Apt. 9.
Keep up the great work!
Thank you! It’s from John Henric.
I live in the south. Actually North FLORIDA. Jacksonville. It's more Southern than you think.
today’s watch looks super-sharp John! what is it?
Thank you! It’s from Vaer.
Hi, thanks for this another nice video. Just wanted to know what pair of swedes are the ones at your video intro. I like the colour and most importantly it's water resistant quality.
Cheers!
Thursday Boots
Hey, I want to know if it is real leather swedes or a synthetic rain proof swede-like material?
Thanx
I like your grey hair. Theyre shinny and silky🥰🥰🥰😘😘😘
John can you wear white sneakers after Labor Day or should you go more with the brown or black
Yes, you absolutely can wear white sneakers.
Do you think an open shirt with a white t shirt is ok ?
I'm the same as you John (I'm 33) I call it Classic Casual but I dress on the more formal end of that and I have absolutely no problem wearing a suit or anything Classic in nature
Thanks for watching Andre!
I like your style
Thank you!
My pleasure. I am glad to follow you
Legend: you always dress nice 👍 I can’t I’m Rockabilly! Just Jivin’! Thanks John Sir!
Thanks for watching Frank!
Hi John, Probably a dumb question, but when wearing a sweater over a polo or dress shirt, should the sweater be the same size you normally wear (small, med. or large) as your shirt, or should you get a sweater that’s one size bigger to accommodate the shirt and be too tight or bunch up?
Same size as you normally wear. It shouldn’t be overly tight, or overly loose.
Recommended stores to buy chinos?
Nordstrom, Nordstrom Rack, Banana Republic, Express
Great advice. Just curious what is that artwork on the lower right corner? Is it perpetual motion art? It looks like it stopped moving. Perhaps it's a watch Winder
Yes, it’s a watch winder :)
@@40OverFashion I win, I win... wait, what did I win?
👍👍👍
Not easy find nice clothes for 40s men, you go to shop an see the style for Men that it just for teenagers or young men but for us 40s Men just Polo shirt, denims jeans, turtle neck or suit nothing More and all depends of the culture or environment come here to Puerto Rico were is 🔥🥵 always, lot of humidity, you sweat a lot unless your in Mall, office, car with a/c but either way gotta do some searching to find the perfect outfit. Keep the good work John!!
Thank you!
How can I be a mix of the 3. 😁
Glad to say I'm not in camp 4.
Every one of your videos make me aware that I've "Got my shit together"
Looking forward to fall coolness so I can rock some jackets and layering.
Great combos of clothing put together there John.
Have a Great Week John 😀
Thank you Andy!
John, some good looks presented here. A nice sports coat or blazer elevates anything … except shorts, that just looks so juvenile.
Thanks for watching Doug!
Every time you say "live well," I keep waiting for you to add the words "and prosper."😁
Haha!
I hate branding on chinos. I take the labels off.
Keep in mind I'm still in my early 30's but truly curious do you think the hoodie underneath a casual blazer look is more for teenagers and students? I still see men sometimes who are obviously your target audience wear hoodies but perhaps its more of a youthful style. Either way I still have a few sweaters so I appreciate the input.
Yes, I’d say it’s a little youthful, but I’ve also seen it well executed.
@@40OverFashion Thanks John! I completely agree with you. When I'm 50 I probably wouldn't do it but honestly I think with a Cotton or Knitted Blazer it could definitely work perhaps even a sport coat whichever you prefer. Excellent content!
How many times have you worn your bespoke suit?
Good question! I’m not sure exactly, maybe 8 or 10 times. It’s been a while since I’ve worn it.
i say you do you
Great video John.
It's amazing how many people have their clothing clock stop from when they were in their twenties and still wear it today and look Goofy.
I never wore a t-shirt unless it was black underneath something back when that was in style, otherwise in my opinion t-shirts or anything bold with writing on them don't belong anywhere on a sophisticated man.
Frankly even as a kid. Unless you're really trying to get a street look which I don't find very sophisticated or appealing at any age.
Thanks for commenting Robert!
I am mid 60, button down Polo, never a full button down shirt unless I am wearing a suit. 😁Not a great sweater wearing guy for some reason, try to mix shoes, never tennis shoes or any shoe resembling that type. I find lack of shirt pockets annoying, like to carry my reading glasses, don't want to look like a school teacher or used car salesman. Sport jacket solves the issue but seasonally you do not wear a sport coat. To find a Polo with pockets is very, very rare but they are out there. Keep cell phones out of shirt pockets or do what I do, leave it in the vehicle. 😎
I guess the acid test is when the ladies comment on how smart you look
First!
Thank you!
Please add english CC in video, people in non native english speaking land will watch.
Bacon collar is a no-no!
Absolutely!
Dress your age? Dress how you want
Nope! I won't wear polos at all. I hate them. If I want to wear a shirt with a collar, I wear a button down. If I'm dressing up, that's a collared button down shirt and one of my pairs of black cowboy boots. I'm a jeans and T-shirt kind of guy. My jeans are all dark and medium wash. I'm in my 60s but look much younger. Everything fits well. I hate baggy clothes.
? Would you say a man in his 60’s can dress like this?
Absolutely!
No way! Society has reached a point where dress well is criticized and constantly you are bashed for such thing because riches now dress a white T-shirt, blue jeans and sporty shoes !!! Technically if you dress well you are a loser , you want to pretend something you are not, according to the media …
I quit what people would consider a good high paying job because I was required to wear a tie. "Dressing with style" is a remnant from ass kissers who hung out in the royal medieval courts. Past time to embrace modernity and wear clothing that makes YOU feel comfortable. To me, it's Tshirt, baseball cap, cargo shorts and Birkenstocks. Luv, a GenXer.
How bout shaving off the beard? You’ll drop about 20 years off your face or at the least groom trim it chisel it down…define it a bit. Your welcome.
This channel is now nothing more than an advertisement for products and goods.
Is this your fist day on UA-cam?? 😂
There's no free lunch Freddy. I like some of the products he advertises.
"Is this your fist day on UA-cam?? 😂"
very funny Fawksy.
