For goodness sakes... asking a child to bathe another child is gross child-abuse! Back in the day as a 6 year old living with my uncle [mum's younger brother] his wife was so mean she would beat me black and blue...one day my uncle came home from a trip unexpectedly and met me with bruises all over, right there and then he took me back to my parents and told his wife that he's afraid if she would abuse me his own niece in that manner then no woman's child will be safe in her care. He never again permitted her to have any help in the house which includes her own relatives till date!😢
Neze , I am not a Nigerian , but my friend introduced me to me to Nigerian movies. I do notice a pattern of how women in general slap around their maids or helpers in these movies. Makes me wanner think it’s normal to the culture.I also read a lot of comments , and I am sorry to say it’s the same people that are watching these movies that are feeling bad because it’s reality.Tell the Nigerian movie committee to rearrange them selves with the maltreatment. It is not fun to watch at all. They must lead by example. I love this comment. But In Nigeria, it is a pattern and there is almost NOTHING that can be done about it. Being beaten, slapped and physically abused is almost normal in so many homes. Beating is part of the ways we raise our kids here so it is really going to be very very difficult to change that mindset and culture. Some of us just try to do it in a way that will seemingly not cause harm As for helps, they are seen as slaves, only few people treat their helps well. I just hope people will learn to be kind to others that will go a long way.

I'm an igbo nigerian young woman fyi. I grew up in a home with helps who went to the same school as I did..graduated and all.. they were still disciplined like I and my siblings were when we also grew up. Growing up to helps at home I even thought they were my parents direct siblings but one of the first helps we had was from akwa ibom state and she was one of my favourites, her name was aunty Rebecca. When the last help we had graduated and left, I had already grown up to be 9 years old and since I could take care of my younger ones in the absence of my parents, there was no need for helps anymore.

I was a victim of this abuse too when I was living with Aunty then and I was only 11 years old. She is only ten; she was bathing your son and probably washed his privates the best way she knew how, without bad intentions. If there was any other situation where he stripped the child to touch him, that would be a clear case of a bad act. Also, children may lie or may have the wrong perceptions or reports about happenings. Based on what other things made one incident so bad to warrant such terrible punishment? And if even she was wrong, did she consider that she, being a child, may have those bad ideas, probably because she was exposed to adult acts either through viewing or because she herself was made to perform or put through such acts and so needed redirection or proper training to help her refrain from bad behaviour? She is 10, and behaviours are not established at that age, so a little punishment, advice, and regular supervision/ending of her service with them would have been all she needed. Not treated like some dangerous individual. Oh💔.... It is a punishable offense under Unisef child labour act. I don't know about Nigeria's constitution o .What most people does especially here in Abuja, is to send such under age to school, some go as far as register them with the same school as their kids hence making it difficult for unisef to clamp down on them. In the morning, driver takes every body to school and back. This is why you can hardly hear about child labor in Abuja talk less of child abuse.

She went too far Biko💔😡.... I was a victim of child abuse as a kid of 5-6 years in the hands of my mom's elder brother and his wife. I'd stay awake till 2a.m, cooking beans with a rickety stove that was barely burning, while the family slept, then wake up by 5a.m to continue with house chores. Most days I went on without food.... I wasn't going to school... Used to brush my teeth with charcoal while they used Paste... The constant panel beating...gosh💔 I would carry their daughter who was almost my age, and feed her. Stand on a stool to reach the gas cooker, to fry plantain for their daughter. I lived in this horror till I got to almost 10 years old, when my mom came to visit without notice bc my dad had a hunch, and saw me in that hellish state. She broke down, wept and took me back home💔

She requested I come visit her in the hospital. I went and broke down when I saw her condition. She held my hand, said SORRY FOR EVERYTHING I DID. Few hours later, she passed. The kids are doing well and are still my FAVORITE cousins

I say this because i experienced it as a child living with my own elder sister as a 10 year old and helping take care of her kids that were just a few years younger than i was. The kids lied a lot and told tales just to get me in trouble and i was punished for things i did not even think about. hardly dress up in shorts and sleevless tops because of marks left on my body from those experiences.

If there was any other situation where he stripped the child to touch him, that would be a clear case of a bad act. Also, children may lie or may have the wrong perceptions or reports about happenings. Based on what other things made one incident so bad to warrant such terrible punishment? And if even she was wrong, did she consider that she, being a child, may have those bad ideas, probably because she was exposed to adult acts either through viewing or because she herself was made to perform or put through such acts and so needed redirection or proper training to help her refrain from bad behaviour? She is 10, and behaviours are not established at that age, so a little punishment, advice, and regular supervision/ending of her service with them would have been all she needed. It is a punishable offense under Unisef child labour act. I don't know about Nigeria's constitution o .What most people does especially here in Abuja, is to send such under age to school, some go as far as register them with the same school as their kids hence making it difficult for unisef to clamp down on them. In the morning, driver takes every body to school and back. This is why you can hardly hear about child labor in Abuja talk less of child abuse.

She requested I come visit her in the hospital. I went and broke down when I saw her condition. She held my hand, said SORRY FOR EVERYTHING I DID.

I say this because i experienced it as a child living with my own elder sister as a 10 year old and helping take care of her kids that were just a few years younger than i was.
