Great video idea (and production)... I guess we all have different favs for different reasons.72 takes my top spot for nostalgic, sentimental reasons. I bought a ton of them from the ice cream truck when I was 8 and instantly had a connection to them (I like how their name is presented), followed by 73. 76 takes #3. My bottom 3 are 75, 79, 78. The early-mid 80s was redemption time for Topps.
I was 8 when I bought the 1973s. Maybe that's my new hypothesis that the cards from when you were 8 is your favorite. It would explain how so many people love the 1978 cards. I totally agree that the players names on the 72 are the coolest of the the 70's.
@@tseanshannon Have a great year turning 60!... 60 beat me up pretty good this year, but doing much better now, and getting back into cards just this month, after a 25-30 year hiatus. Cheers! 😁
Isn't that a super cool card? Great action photo! I was a kid and my older brother pointed out that was the first year AL pitchers didn't bat anymore and it made me love the card even more.
I watch this and realize there are things I like about every set. I am with you on 1970. The last of the classic Topps set before more action photography was used. The 1979 design is not the best but I think the game action photography great improved by 1979 as cameras became more advanced. Here is my top 10: 1971 1976 1970 1979 1972 1973 1974 1977 1975 1978 Happy Thanksgiving!
I like something about all these sets too. The thing I like about 79 is that most of the All-Star Cards are action shots. I love seeing people's choices and how different they are. I flip flop all the time on the years. I just bought like 5 high numbered 1972 cards last weekend at a show, so I've been digging on those since for the last 3 days.
This was great! I enjoyed your rankings and opinions on the 70s Topps! My rankings vary based on my mood but 71 Topps is always my favorite. I agree about 78 Topps except the Eddie Mofo Murray card is awesome! It’s always a good day when I can see cards with Oscar Gamble’s Afro! 😂 Happy Thanksgiving 🦃
That's so cool you have the complete set of such a kick ass year. I don't have any complete sets of vintage cards. My favorite card from 1970 is the Hank Aaron signing a baseball.
I've never seen the Gene Michaels card. Just added it to my list. I'm pretty sure he's in another action card wearing a jacket and leading off in Chris Chamblis' card from 1973.
78 was my 1st set that I ever collected. Therefore, it's my favorite, sorry. I loved the baseball with the position and then the all-star badge. Of course, they got me to buy pack after pack trying to find the 3rd AL OF all-star. Only to find out there was only 2😢.
My favorite was actually the 1972 ones, announcing the team names on the cards looked like credits out of a movie. Animated, like Yellow Submarine or "VERB" from the Electric Company. They also included "in action" cards in an era when packs were only 10 cents, I'd take my weekly allowance of $1 and buy 10 packs every Saturday. As a bonus, when you put the commons in your bike spokes, you could actually animate the team names yourself...and it was distracting at times.
This is the video I didn't know I've been waiting for. 1973 is my favorite too, although I'm not sure what happened with the Reggie Jackson card, and it's hilarious that they showed Dick Green making an error.
Steve is the worst. It's fun to invent a guy to blame all the bad baseball cards on. I just got a bunch of high number '72 at a card show this weekend that are wonderful.
1970 is tops for me that decade. Randomly choosing the '74 Set to get signed.... I have come to appreciate the World Series action cards of that year, team cards, manager cards, quad rookie cards, and the first ever separate traded/update set from Topps. They even had separate auto card checklists of each team that weren't even part of the set... like, where do they belong? I know other sets had similar inclusions, I think part of me liked the Mets/A's shots because I grew up a Mets fan and that set has the '73 World Series cards. I like the little pennant border with the enclosed city on top, and team name on bottom.... the border sort of creates a loop and ties it all together, like the dude's rug.
The 71Topps set had a great design but the black borders would wear and chip just by looking at them. It’s hard to find cards from that set that are even presentable in a card album-overall a good list with the 73’ set at the top.
Love your channel, but I think the 78’ Topps set needs a little more love. Maybe do a top 3 cards from every year. Thanks for posting, again love your channel, very entertaining
Totally agree, I was a little hard on 78'. That year had some great cards. I love the Bob Lemon manager card, Graig Nettles, Grant Jackson with his race car jacket. My favorite card is the Dave Winfield with his sideburns which reminds me of the silver naked lady on the back of a mudflap. The other thing that bugged me about 78' is the All Star cards were bland. But at the end of the day, I love all these cards.
Really I think the AS badge is the best on the 78’s and my favorite card of that year is top 3 cards all time for me, the 78’ Reggie Jackson. (My favorite all time card is the 77’ Dave Kingman)
Thanks again T. I love the 1972 and 1975 sets.... simply because of the technicolor! Sets them apart from all others... but I'm actually more of a football guy? Do you have any football cards... can you do a "football video"?
I figured gridironstars liked football. I've got a box or 2 of old football cards. I'll try to put something together for Super Bowl week. That could be a fun project. As always, thanks for watching.
The multiplayer rookie cards are the worst idea that Topps ever had, but the 1979 version is the worst of the worst -- grainy black and white photos that were beyond horrible. How the hell does that happen in 1979 when Topps had never been that cheap and lazy in all the previous years? For this reason alone, 1979 is the worst of the decade.
Why are the rookie cards in B/W? Also, I never thought about it, but they were really grainy. I like 2 rookies on a card, 3 is way too many. But we agree '79 is the worse of the decade. Thanks for watching.
Haha. None of the 70s cards are great for me. Do I need to pick? Ok then… 70, because it’s the last year with Pilots cards. 71 my least favorite because first year of the Brewers cards. 😂 ✌️
I’m pretty much in agreement with the statement that where is a BIG gap between the top eight and 1978/1979. The bottom two are terrible and some of the worst designs of all time.
It is a giant drop off. 73' is always my fav, but all the other years can flip/flop but 78/79 are always my least favorite. Also there's good cards every year even when I don't like the design.
@ 1973 was probably the peak for me collecting so it does have a special meaning for me. In 1979 I bought two vending cases (24,000 cards) to hand make into sets, 45 years later I still have visions/nightmares of that set. Besides I still have a couple thousand leftover cards which I have been lugging around with me for my whole adult life. Time to clean out the closet….
Cool list Tsean. 76 & 71 are my favorite years. Yeah 79 is a real stinker.

Wow, this video is incredible, love the choices and the cards! We have a winner!!! 🎉
Thanks again for the idea. This is one of my most popular video. My email is tseanshannon@gmail.com.
Another fantastic episode.
Thanks!!
Thanks for watching!
You can probably tell that I rank 1978 in a different spot, but I really enjoyed this video. Thanks for sharing!
I was hard on your beloved 1978 cards, sorry. I know a lot of people who love that year. And I'm glad you dug the video. Thanks for watching.
A new BBCT! When I get the the notification, I smile 😊
I love hearing that. Thank you.
75 was my favorite. Liked the colors and thought the mini cards were cool.
I also like the 73 Kaat card- another one of those pitchers not pitching and a good action shot.
Great list!!! Jim Kaat super collector!!! I need that 73 for my 73 set!! I have never seen that one!!! Well done sir!!! Happy thanksgiving!!!
Isn't that a super cool card? Great action photo! I was a kid and my older brother pointed out that was the first year AL pitchers didn't bat anymore and it made me love the card even more.
I agree, 1979 is the worst. I love your approach/presentation to videos. Very well thought and entertaining. Nice job!

Happy Thanksgiving 🦃
I'm the same way. 73 is always my favorite but depending on my mood the rest of them fluctuate.
I have the complete set of the 1970 topps, I like the simple basic look of them
That's so cool you have the complete set of such a kick ass year. I don't have any complete sets of vintage cards. My favorite card from 1970 is the Hank Aaron signing a baseball.
@@tseanshannonyeah, it's a very cool set and it was expensive to complete, especially the high numbers
If you like Jim Kaat,he is sliding into second in Gene Michael's 1972 in action card.
I've never seen the Gene Michaels card. Just added it to my list. I'm pretty sure he's in another action card wearing a jacket and leading off in Chris Chamblis' card from 1973.
@tseanshannon Yes he is. I'll always remember his face on the 1968 First series checklist card, the first checklist I ever filled in,lol.
78 was my 1st set that I ever collected. Therefore, it's my favorite, sorry. I loved the baseball with the position and then the all-star badge. Of course, they got me to buy pack after pack trying to find the 3rd AL OF all-star. Only to find out there was only 2😢.

I do love the "In Action" shots from '72. And the team names look like they're from an episode of Electric Company.😊
This is the video I didn't know I've been waiting for. 1973 is my favorite too, although I'm not sure what happened with the Reggie Jackson card, and it's hilarious that they showed Dick Green making an error.
The Dick Green is hilarious. The Reggie card is weird looking but I've always kind of liked it. As always, thanks for watching.
1972 is my all-time set
This weekend I bought some high numbered 72s. (Billy Grabarkewitz, Paul Doyle) I've been digging on them for the last few days.
Topps biggest mistake was hiring Steve in the late 70’s. A couple of blunders to close out the decade. I have the same top 3 but I have ‘72 as my #4.
Steve is the worst. It's fun to invent a guy to blame all the bad baseball cards on. I just got a bunch of high number '72 at a card show this weekend that are wonderful.

The '73 manager cards are cool, a lot of Hall of Famers were managers that year.
I think those are the best manager cards Topps have ever done. '74 were good too.
@tseanshannon as the kids would say, true dat!
71 and 75 top 2
The 73 cards are nice, but imho, the 74s were the best Topps mlb cards of the 1970s.
Thanks again T. I love the 1972 and 1975 sets.... simply because of the technicolor! Sets them apart from all others... but I'm actually more of a football guy? Do you have any football cards... can you do a "football video"?

If you like Boog Powell, take a look at his '75 card.
Love that card. He looks like he's singing the beginning of YMCA.
Did you see the Glenn Hubbard snake card
I love the Glenn Hubbard snake card!!! There's also a Steve Lake card where he has a parrot. I got the Hubbard card but not the Steve Lake card.
@tseanshannon cool I wasn't aware of the parrot card ty
I would go 1970, 1975, 1971, 1979, 1978, 1972, 1976, 1977, 1973, 1974
