I have all of these cards. I started collecting in 1975 at age 10 and still have all of my cards. The first packs I ever opened had Brett and yount rookies.. I'm glad I kept them. I have a complete 79 set. The last card I needed was was Ozzie Smith rookie... It was about 10 bucks in the early 80s and I didn't want to pay that much but I did finally buy one back then. I need to send some into PSA.
I wouldn't. You will spend a bunch of money getting them graded ... you will swear you have cards that would grade out at 8's and 9's and they will come back as 4's or 5's which will make them worth less than the cost of getting them graded. It's a total racket and borders on being a total scam. Been there ... done that.
Eddie Murray is still way undervalued and underappreciated in this hobby. One of only a few with 3,000 hits and 500 or more HR. I only own two of his raw rookies but I wish I could afford an SGC 9
Incredible how untouched by time Nolan Ryan's popularity is. A 7th year psa 8 Ryan gets more than the RC of the greatest Brewer ever in Yount, RC of a guy in the goat shortstop discussion in Smith, and only gets edged out by the RC of the greatest Royal ever, George Brett. Long live Nolan Ryan, the biggest name in the hobby after Mantle.
Graduated in 79 so this is perfect for me. Great era, great cards. Heavy into baseball as I was playing high school baseball so it was relevant to me. Great cards to chase
Still have thousands of 70's topps cards my cousin gave me in the 80's but none of them are graded and they have been sitting in shoe boxes for decades.
Purchased a 1977 Topps complete set when they came out in 1977. Still in the original box and never took any of them out. Started collecting in the late 60's but this was the first complete set I ever purchased. $15.99 back then. Wished I would have bought more sets of course ....
3 of my all-time favorite players on here. Reggie, Schmidt and Brett. I have a raw Reggie rookie, probably a PSA 2/3, a Brett PSA 5 RC, but I'm in need of a Schmidt rookie. I'll own one someday.
78 Topps Murphy also has three other really really good catches on it. Always thought that card was undervalue but all the great 77 tops that showed up on that list was totally awesome!
Great video as always, Chris. Kind of off topic, but this video got me thinking about the GOATs who played in all parts of the 70s. What a great decade of baseball, maybe the best in terms of greatness playing in one decade.
Great video as always. One of your comments - that Bench was arguably the greatest catcher of all time - made me think about Yogi Berra. 3 MVPs and 10 WS rings. But seems to be forgotten. Could be an interesting future video for you: under appreciated HOFers like Berra, Frank Robinson, Jim Palmer, etc.
Vintage 70s! Pound for pound, Dawson was the best player I ever saw. Murphy and Hernandez should be in HOF, way above Larkin, Baines, Minosa, and Simmons. That 7 no hitters in the era of base hitters is probably the most impressive thing ever achieved in baseball.
Definitely stoked to see my all time fav player show up with the top card overall. The ALT app shows it as a pop 5 in psa 10. Honestly that is hard to fathom for a set that is in no wise rare. I mean, his 93 finest refractor in psa 10 is a pop 9 😢 🔥🔥🔥🔥 thanks, as always, for another great vid 💪🏼
I love watching your videos just to see if I have any of the cards listed. I do have two of these! I have one of the Molitor and five of the Brett's. My Molitor wood grade out to a 3 and my best Brett Wood crate out to a 7.
Another interesting tidbit, if you search for George Brett poop story you’ll find he is not only number one on this list but also has the number one story ever recorded
Dale Murphy should be in the HOF! He dominated mlb for a decade….tell me another sport where a player wouldn’t be a hall of famer when they were the best player for a decade?
I was in the hospital for a week in 1977, 9 years old, parents divorced. My mom and dad brought me so many packs of baseball cards and I still have them. 😊
Try some 2001 archives reserve/refractor-style. They look GREAT! (Brett, Yount, Madlock). There is also chrome of Nolan Ryan & Hank Aaron. Looks better than the originals.
You can get a case of 1000 toploaders from Cardboard Gold for about $90. A case from Ultra Pro goes for about $150 - not worth the extra $ imho. 25 count packs sell for $6-9 at most cardstores. I have a place that sells them for $3.50.
You can get a chrome version of that 75 Ryan and it looks great. Best one in my opinion of that commemorative Ryan set. Not the same as a refractor but still very nice.
All of these cards could be had for really reasonable prices raw..🤔😮 So if you're sitting on some of these in NM/MT condition you should certainly grade those..😉 Love this list of cards..😍 Take care Chris..👍💕🔥👊
Good stuff! Finally picked up a Yount last week, psa 9 (pwcc-s). Long term collector, if I can find a 9 of a HOF guy that's super clean, at the right price, I'm buying it. Would like an Ozzie in a very clean 9, but feel like those have quite the premium.
