ABRACADABRA

* Making my videos is a strange, mysterious process. I use intense thought, logic and instinct but after all the effort, I myself need to analyse the work. I just did so with “Abracadabra” and I must say the whole thing is quite magical both in structure and content. I am being sincere even if in some of our animated exchanges, my mother used to say “Chi si loda s’imbroda” which roughly means “Self praise is self-soiling.”
Six patterned compositional paintings in colour, six verses of six lines each (I chose six as my favourite number when I was a child). It is extremely rich in symbolism and meaning. Music is provided by drums, electronic bass and xylophone. The rhythm of the first verse is twice echoed by an electronic wind instrument.
I won’t go into all the details but I will explain verse 5. It consists of one image reworked and repeated to make a nine-picture pattern. The original is a photo that prefers to remain ambiguous and mysterious. The reflections are zen like with ironic references to Oppenheimer who visited Japan but never went to Hiroshima or Nagasaki. Franco Rasetti was also a nuclear physicist and colleague of Enrico Fermi. However he understood what the Manhattan project would entail and decided to study trilobites and wild flowers instead. Good for him. For once a true scientific hero. The rhyme scheme is AA, BB, CC.

* Realizzare i miei video è un processo strano e misterioso. Uso un pensiero intenso, logica e istinto, ma dopo tutto lo sforzo, devo analizzare anch’io il lavoro. L'ho appena fatto con "Abracadabra" e devo dire che l'intera cosa è piuttosto magica sia nella struttura che nel contenuto. Sono sincero, anche se in alcuni dei nostri scambi animati, mia madre diceva "Chi si loda s'imbroda".
Sei dipinti compositivi colorati e a motivi regolari, sei versi di sei righe ciascuno (ho scelto sei come il mio numero preferito quando ero bambino). È estremamente ricco di simbolismi e significati. La musica è fornita da batteria, basso elettronico e xilofono. Il ritmo del primo verso è ripetuto due volte da uno strumento a fiato elettronico.
Non entrerò in tutti i dettagli, salvo il verso 5. Consiste in un'immagine rielaborata e ripetuta per creare uno schema di nove immagini. L'originale è una foto che preferisce rimanere ambigua e misteriosa. Le riflessioni sono zen con riferimenti ironici a Oppenheimer che visitò il Giappone ma non andò mai a Hiroshima o Nagasaki. Franco Rasetti era anche lui un fisico nucleare e collega di Enrico Fermi. Tuttavia capì cosa avrebbe comportato il progetto Manhattan e decise di cambiare indirizzo degli studi e si dedicò invece a trilobiti e fiori selvatici. Bene per lui. * Die Herstellung meiner Videos ist ein seltsamer, geheimnisvoller Prozess. Ich benutze intensives Nachdenken, Logik und Instinkt, aber nach all der Anstrengung muss ich das Werk selbst analysieren. Das habe ich gerade mit "Abrakadabra" getan, und ich muss sagen, dass das Ganze sowohl von der Struktur als auch vom Inhalt her ziemlich magisch ist. Ich bin aufrichtig, auch wenn meine Mutter in einigen unserer angeregten Gespräche zu sagen pflegte: 'Chi si loda s'imbroda', was in etwa bedeutet: 'Wer sich selbst lobt, befleckt sich selbst.
Sechs gemusterte, farbige Kompositionen, sechs Strophen mit je sechs Zeilen (als Kind habe ich sechs als Lieblingszahl gewählt). Es ist äußerst reich an Symbolik und Bedeutung. Die Musik wird von Schlagzeug, E-Bass und Xylophon begleitet. Der Rhythmus der ersten Strophe wird zweimal von einem elektronischen Blasinstrument widerhallt.
Ich werde nicht auf alle Details eingehen, aber ich werde Strophe 5 erklären. Sie besteht aus einem Bild, das überarbeitet und wiederholt wird, um ein Neun-Bilder-Muster zu bilden. Das Original ist ein Foto, das es vorzieht, zweideutig und geheimnisvoll zu bleiben. Die Reflexionen sind zen-artig mit ironischen Verweisen auf Oppenheimer, der Japan besuchte, aber nie in Hiroshima oder Nagasaki war. Franco Rasetti war ebenfalls Atomphysiker und Kollege von Enrico Fermi. Er verstand jedoch, was das Manhattan-Projekt mit sich bringen würde und beschloss, stattdessen Trilobiten und Wildblumen zu studieren. Gut für ihn. Endlich einmal ein echter wissenschaftlicher Held.
