LAPUTA

This video will probably not appear straight forward. It needs a lengthy exegesis. The title resembles a Spanish swear word and that’s OK because now and then a curse or two is appropriate. In actual fact it’s the name of an island hovering in the sky from Jonathan Swift’s “Gullivers Travels”. It seems well suited to the themes of the video which are in order of appearance of the five verses: idealism, dreams, the web, relationships, humanity’s prospects. The whole thing came about from my own musings which I tried to explain in a recent real life discussion but it could just as well have been a dream or an exchange on FB. The images vary from the figurative to the abstract to the digitally altered photographic. Personally I quite like the soundtrack that I played but as usual, perhaps like all the rest, it will be overlooked.

Questo video probabilmente non sembrerà semplice. Richiede una lunga esegesi. Il titolo ricorda una parolaccia spagnola e va bene perché ogni tanto una o due imprecazioni sono appropriate. In realtà è il nome di un'isola sospesa nel cielo da "I viaggi di Gulliver" di Jonathan Swift. Sembra ben adatta ai temi del video che sono in ordine di apparizione dei cinque versi: idealismo, sogni, il web, relazioni, prospettive dell'umanità. Il tutto è nato dalle mie riflessioni personali che ho cercato di spiegare in una recente discussione di vita reale, ma avrebbe potuto benissimo essere un sogno o uno scambio su FB. Le immagini variano dal figurativo all'astratto al fotografico alterato digitalmente. Personalmente mi piace la colonna sonora che ho suonato ma come al solito, forse come tutto il resto, verrà trascurata.

Dieses Video wird wahrscheinlich nicht einfach erscheinen. Es braucht eine lange Exegese. Der Titel erinnert an ein spanisches Schimpfwort, und das ist auch gut so, denn ab und zu ist ein Fluch oder zwei angebracht. In Wirklichkeit handelt es sich um den Namen einer im Himmel schwebenden Insel aus Jonathan Swifts "Gullivers Reisen". Er scheint gut zu den Themen des Videos zu passen, die in der Reihenfolge des Erscheinens der fünf Strophen lauten: Idealismus, Träume, das Netz, Beziehungen, die Aussichten der Menschheit. Das Ganze entstand aus meinen eigenen Überlegungen, die ich kürzlich in einer Diskussion im wirklichen Leben zu erklären versuchte, aber es hätte genauso gut ein Traum oder ein Austausch auf FB sein können. Die Bilder variieren von figurativ über abstrakt bis hin zu digital bearbeiteten Fotografien. Mir persönlich gefällt der Soundtrack, den ich abgespielt habe, aber wie üblich wird er vielleicht, wie alles andere auch, übersehen werden.
