Cindy, Sarah and Anna will be moving into the room that was the boys 'room. Abigail and Rebekah will be staying in the current girls' bedroom, but we do plan to update it as well. 🙂
I think it’s awesome that Sarah still wants to share a room with her siblings. Everyone in today’s world is privacy, privacy. I shared a room and it never harmed me. My brothers shared a room. There was over 8 years age difference for my brothers. I feel personally that sharing a room prepared me for married life. It’s your home and you do what works for your family no matter what others think. I can’t wait till I can have a sewing/jewelry making room (my girl makes jewelry).
I wish the pipes didn’t have to go thru her sewing room. A cute white wrought iron daybed would be nice to have in the sewing room, if she ever decided to get away or hang out with her friends.

You do realize that you only see a very small portion of their day, right? You see a 25-30 minute video & assume Sarah is slaving away from sun up to sun down. Lol. There are 24 hours in a day and Janice always shares projects Sarah has either sewn or drawn-just the other day I saw a video where Sarah wasn’t shown at all but about 45 seconds throughout the whole video bc she was spending time with her friend. These kids have a lovely upbringing where they have a nice balance of responsibility and free time. They’re all very smart, talented, and Sarah in particular has a very gentle, giving spirit & I see the look on her face when she’s helping take care of her family-she wouldn’t change a single second of her life. I would almost bet my life on it.

The boys room turned out really nice. I have never seen a family so appreciative of things that people have sent them. You can tell that your children are so grateful. Coming from a large family myself, I know what it's like to be very grateful for what you have. Your family reminds me so much of my family when we were young.

Girls' room: I would paint the brown shelf white, put it back where it is right now and put the new dresser right under it. I would then either buy two small (or one big) desks and put them on the wall where the second bed was. The room might look bigger this way. Maybe put small shelves above the desk... A nice carpet on the floor...

Janice - any chance you could measure the inside of the drawers for the girl’s dresser? Inside width, height, and front to back. There are no measurements on their website for the actual inside drawer. Might be perfect for my craft/sewing room. Thx! No rush!
Love the boys room, well done! In the girls room, that corner shelf might work in the summer kitchen with hooks underneath to hang aprons, pot holders and utensils? Then on the shelves spices, pectins, slt sugar etc. canning supplies. Just a couple of thoughts! 😊
Janice, if that is the alarm clock that I got the boys for their bedroom from Temu, it looks nicer than expected. I agree that the games would be great out near the tables they set up to play in the summer kitchen. Do you think you will be able to do some canning out there this summer? Can't wait to see it all. You may not wish to talk about how the girls will be divided up in their sleeping arrangements. But I'm confused who goes where. I'm getting ahead of myself, I'm sure you will show us as it gets ready. Didn't know until today that you had a berm house. I've heard they are amazing utility consumption wise.
I'm glad the chicken tractors are coming in handy!! The Boys' room looks awesome!! Tell Sarah to hold off on turning the black sheet into a curtain. I am sending a curtain rod and curtains to you! Depending on the height of the closet, the curtains may need to be hemmed. I purchased the 63' ones to make sure they were long enough. I'm so glad the children are enjoying the game table!! It's great that, that company allowed you to get a new big dresser for the Girls' room, what a nice addition to the room! That dress looks beautiful on Sarah!! Sage green is a lighter color that you might like for that room, olive green will probably be too dark. The white furniture will definitely help with the darkness of the room and I would even suggest painting the door white, the more white, the more the available light will bounce around the room and make it lighter! Don't listen to people who want to TELL you how to house your children! They have no right to judge, question or tell you how to live your life! They should be spending their time making their own decisions on how to run their household NOT spending time trying to run your household!!

The only possible issue I note is the small window …in Canada there has to be a secondary exit , beside the entry door from the bedroom( window has to be a size to get out of in case of fire) . I’m not sure what regulations are in the US but I have seen this several times with family with many children in the states where multiple children are sleeping in one room. I love large families , love what you are doing with homesteading etc but this worries my heart. I wish you all the best.

I love your collection of books! What about adding doors to the book shelves, maybe even sliding doors. Or Sara could also sew a cute curtain... just to cover the many colors of the books and give the space a more muted, clean, and organized look.

Thanks Ellen! Yes, the boys will be able to stay in there over winter too. The air conditioning unit is also a heater. We would also be able to build a fire in the wood cookstove in the lower level of the summer kitchen and that would help keep things warm as well. :)
Hi Sylvia! We have very, very poor cell phone service out here, so that's not a reliable way for us to communicate with one another. Most people actually have zero bars here. We have multiple intercoms in the summer kitchen and the main house so we can talk to one another easily. We also utilize old walkie-talkies when we're working outside. It's all better than yelling outside at one another! :)
Just a thought on the space above the dresser or above the desk, a mirror so they have something when they are putting their hair up. Especially since you have limited bathroom, and you are putting all the hair do dads in the baskets. Maybe a reading chair for the girls like Sam's if there is room. Your plans for the room sound awesome. I am sure Anna and Sarah are going to love it. Check goodwill for mirrors that you can use. I saw several that were nice at my goodwill.❤
Also maybe a mirror for the boys room, those skinny ones that go on back of door..you can hang in that bare spot on closet wall. Also a net or cloth laundry bag for getting clothes and sheets to laundry room.

I'm nervous when and if the boys have to go to the bathroom at night when walking to the house to go to the bathroom. A bear lion and other animals will jump out and kill them. It's scary.

Love the boys room, it turned out great. I think it’s nice that Sara is comfortable sharing a space with her sisters, maybe those who isn’t accustomed to it May think differently but there are people all over the world and in North America who live like this even adults in their 20s or 30s share rooms with children who are their relatives or siblings and they make it happen daily

The boys room looks great. Where are their clothes; jeans, Tshirts etc. I didn’t see any dressers. Couldn’t they have flat storage zip cases under their beds ?
Just an FYI: my MIL cross stitches and for Christmas one year he sent a family photo off and had it made into a cross stitch pattern. May be something fun for you or one of your kids to do?
Sharing a room keeps the siblings closer as they grow up. I shared a room with my younger sister until my older sis moved out. I belive it helped us know each other better and we shared lots or special secrets as we grew up. We are super close till this day, twenty years later. Infact we purchased homes on the same street. Our children are able to grow up with each other and are as close as siblings. All because we grew up sharing a bedroom and bonding together as sisters should. 😊

Have you considered a table (desk) that is hinged to the wall with a gable leg so that they can put it up when using and collapse it when they aren't so that they have better access to the closet? You could even pair it with a folding chair that would easily store out of their way.

YES...put insulation in the ceiling. We've lived in houses with and without and it really does make a difference with noise.

I’m sure they are working with what they have. My parents only had 4 kids and we never had our own rooms and it wasn’t a big deal at all.

Everything beautiful I love boys bedroom ❤sorry only my opinion that sowing room it's not suitable next to the boys room Boys need some quiet time for studying or something else I think it better to give the boys that room to make boys office for their projects and other stuff It's 3 of them and they are need more private

I love your collection of books! What about adding doors to the book shelves, maybe even sliding doors. Or Sara could also sew a cute curtain... just to cover the many colors of the books and give the space a more muted, clean, and organized look.
I really like that idea, but some children were scandalized when I suggested covering up the books! 😉

Thanks Ellen! Yes, the boys will be able to stay in there over winter too. The air conditioning unit is also a heater. We would also be able to build a fire in the wood cookstove in the lower level of the summer kitchen and that would help keep things warm as well. :)

Yeah, we tend to stay in well-worn farm clothes most of the time, but it's nice to get dressed up in town clothes every so often too! :)

Hi Sylvia! We have very, very poor cell phone service out here, so that's not a reliable way for us to communicate with one another. Most people actually have zero bars here. We have multiple intercoms in the summer kitchen and the main house so we can talk to one another easily. We also utilize old walkie-talkies when we're working outside. It's all better than yelling outside at one another! :)

Color code guys hangers?
Just a thought on the space above the dresser or above the desk, a mirror so they have something when they are putting their hair up. Especially since you have limited bathroom, and you are putting all the hair do dads in the baskets. Maybe a reading chair for the girls like Sam's if there is room. Your plans for the room sound awesome. I am sure Anna and Sarah are going to love it. Check goodwill for mirrors that you can use. I saw several that were nice at my goodwill.❤

Also maybe a mirror for the boys room, those skinny ones that go on back of door..you can hang in that bare spot on closet wall. Also a net or cloth laundry bag for getting clothes and sheets to laundry room.

I'm nervous when and if the boys have to go to the bathroom at night when walking to the house to go to the bathroom. A bear lion and other animals will jump out and kill them. It's scary.

Lol Me, I love mint green and white. So, my fav colors go just a wee bit lighter than Sarah's. Still in the same color spectrum though! Love the boys room, it turned out great. I think it’s nice that Sara is comfortable sharing a space with her sisters, maybe those who isn’t accustomed to it May think differently but there are people all over the world and in North America who live like this even adults in their 20s or 30s share rooms with children who are their relatives or siblings and they make it happen daily

The boys room looks great. Where are their clothes; jeans, Tshirts etc. I didn’t see any dressers. Couldn’t they have flat storage zip cases under their beds ?
Just an FYI: my MIL cross stitches and for Christmas one year he sent a family photo off and had it made into a cross stitch pattern. May be something fun for you or one of your kids to do?

Sharing a room keeps the siblings closer as they grow up. I shared a room with my younger sister until my older sis moved out. I belive it helped us know each other better and we shared lots or special secrets as we grew up. We are super close till this day, twenty years later. Infact we purchased homes on the same street. Our children are able to grow up with each other and are as close as siblings. All because we grew up sharing a bedroom and bonding together as sisters should. 😊

Have you considered a table (desk) that is hinged to the wall with a gable leg so that they can put it up when using and collapse it when they aren't so that they have better access to the closet? You could even pair it with a folding chair that would easily store out of their way.
