WOW! What an informative video. Now I can go for a wild ride and not have to worry about getting home before dark or lugging my lights along! Sometimes less ($) is more!! Great use of the chapters feature.

I'm a commuter so I need something to grab people's attention. The Matrix is the best in that regard. You can reprogram the light patterns and the front light. That's something I don't see reviewed... The RGB pattern for instance is SUPER BRIGHT, almost blinding. That particular pattern is not a default one, it has to be programmed in from the phone app. But it does use a lot more battery power to produce almost twice the lumens.
Update: The helmet's on/off/mode cycle button stopped working. So the helmet only lasted about a year. When I bought it, it was on sale for $188. The price has now shot up to $250. Which is just too much for something that wears out in a year. So I'll be buying the Lumos Ultra instead.

Good point that the Matrix can be the most visible from the rear. I tend to run my helmets on the fast blink mode which seems to get everyone's attention. One other benefit of blinking is that it uses less battery.

I went with the Ultra with MIPS in HiVis and black. Instead of the visor that I wanted until I read, it's made of fabric and cardboard. That will not last very long in Flordia. Instead, I bought a cycling cap at less than half the price. I used to ride most of my life with just a baseball cap until my brother got on my case about not wearing a helmet. This is my second helmet, first with MIPS and lights. I like the fit and color. The lights may be useful during the daytime as I fear the distracted drivers.

I have a Lumos helmet. I love the super bright front and rear lights.

I think that the Kickstart is the best if you want others to see you. Especially when you use the "blinkers" during daytime. I'm riding a scooter and it's very hard and dangerous to ride with one hand to make a handsignal.
So, the Kickstart with MIPS it is.

I usually use an open leg to indicate the direction I want to go. Take a try to see if you feel safer. I don't like to take a hand off my kick scooter. Stay safe!

The only downside of the Lumos is the power button's location on the Matrix:
it is located on top side of the strap that meets the helmet, which would be fine if the cord was anchored to the helmet.
Because it's not, it tends to slide each time you wear it and over time slips into the helmet forcing the user to check it before activating it.
Their tech department is quick to respond and offer assistance. Hopefully they will resolve this flaw in the future.
Aside from that, it's an awesome helmet and worth every penny.

This sounds like what happened to me recently. I've had the helmet about a year. All of a sudden the power button stopped working...

The turn indicators are useful if you are riding at low light as your hands won't be visible

I went with gray color ultra. I wondered about the monte carlo color but they didn’t have a MIPS version available. That’s a great color tho.

Nice video. Informative and helpfull. Especially night visibility.
The flash light comparison helped me to decide against a lumos. My primary goal for the front light is to illuminate the street. But the Lumos is to weak. I guess I will buy a lupine Piko4. Thanks for the help.

They specifically avoided this so that you can look around without blinding people. If you mostly using it for looking straight ahead, a bike mounted light is better. If you're riding in the dark with not many people around, I can see why you might want a bright helmet light.

I just bought a small light with 1,400 lumins. I just want the kick start for head protection and if just in case I forget to charge my headlight and I need it in a emergency.!

With that many lumens from a small light sourfe you may very well blind oncoming traffic. Get in front of your bike and make sure it is not pointed too high. For your safety and the safety of others

@@WoodsSooperDooperShop I’m using it in the flashing mode because it drains your battery 🔋 to fast.

  • @TheRealFeechLaManna

Meh they only have the really BORING colour schemes for sale for us mortals. What a shame. Guess one is FORCED to buy the matrix just to get ANY clout on street these days. But the matrix does seem to be able to recharge the remote by sticking it inside the helmet, which is a plus. I would have preferred if one could see the turn signal blink while wearing the helmet, like you can on the Kickstarter.
