    OK, that is the best use of a septic slide valve I have ever seen. Outside the box is pretty cool way to think.

    We have similar set-ups. I just ran across your channel. To each their own, but I'd be a little leery of having the combustion chamber/exhaust connection on the inside of the tent. I did a slightly more conventional heater build in a one size smaller harbor freight box with the tank on the outside. It hangs from the rail of the camper and the heat goes in a similar port to what you have. Works great and no concerns about carbon monoxide from the exhaust. Would be fun to chat about the set-ups. Oh, I just got my starlink mini also. :)

    • @dogandajeep
      @dogandajeep  Місяць тому

      I had concerns last winter about carbon monoxide but after running one internally all winter with the exhaust pushing out and two monitors inside to be safe I found it not to be a concern. The Heater I run now is just a modification that allows for easier packing and unpacking and the larger fuel can lets me run all weekend and have an easier time refilling compared to the cases with the fuel mounted directly to the heater.

      @@dogandajeep Yep, I hear ya. I was also thinking it might be smart for you to have the diesel in the heated space to keep it from gelling. Not too much of an issue for me since I only camp down to about 0F or so (with a bit of additive).

    • @dogandajeep
      @dogandajeep  Місяць тому

      @ I was looking into recycling the heated air but did some research and for every 90 degree angle it’s losing significant heat and it adds to the setup time when I get to camp.
      Did a cold camp at -40° last week and if I had to spend 4-5 minutes just setting up the heater outside and connecting hoses I wouldn’t have gone. At that temperature I can maybe get 2-3 minutes of setup before I have to get back into the truck to warm up again so having the heater ready to go minus plugging it in and dropping the standpipe into the wavian can makes setting it up and starting it a 30 second affair

    • @mattmentzer8610
      @mattmentzer8610 Місяць тому +1

      @@dogandajeep Yep. I've got my setup down to a minimum also - hang on the side of the rig, jam on the exhaust (~8" long), hot air tube to the port in the door, one cable which does power and control (also built into the port assembly). I have the controller mounted inside. Also, I do carry a large diameter tube (larger diameter = less restriction) to pull partially warm air from the nose of the wedge - that's where it's the coldest and is most likely to have condensation due to this. I only set up the recirc air when it's quite cold. I only run a 2kw - with my insulation package, it's fine. Also, I sleeve the hot air tube with the next larger size - dead air space insulation... makes a huge difference for heat loss when I check with the thermal camera. You can see a pic of my truck on the cover of the current Northology mag.

    Looks so peaceful and cold 😅 question, I'm considering a Vevor diesel heater for my build and while you were sitting inside next to the heater I could hear a clicking noise, was that the Vevor? Do they make noise?

    • @dogandajeep
      @dogandajeep  Місяць тому +2

      @@Georgesadventure I upgraded the fuel pump to the more powerful one because I have the fuel can farther away than you normally would so the fuel pump needs to work harder to access the fuel. The fuel pump itself makes noise BUT I am unsure how loud the vevor pump is. It does click but between the fan blowing, the clicking, and how comfy I am I just fall asleep. I don’t sleep as well when it’s quiet so the fuel pump pulls me to sleep honestly

      @Georgesadventure Місяць тому

      @@dogandajeep I'm building a Chevy Express and wanted to put the heater inside the van but I don't want the diesel inside that's why I asked. So I assume the pump is in the heater enclosure and pulls from the tank

    • @dogandajeep
      @dogandajeep  Місяць тому +1

      @ the heater itself is just that the heater. The pump is separate so it could be mounted externally especially if you’re planning on having the diesel externally contained as well

      Merry Christmas to you as well! If you don't mind pinstripes and scratches you can fit a full size down most trails although you'll likely need to do some maneuvering in spots that I can just crawl around.

      @dogandajeep thanks for the information, I'm researching future vehicles for when I travel to Alaska and Canada in my retirement years. Looking at Jeep gladiator with a diesel, Ram with a diesel or GMC with a diesel. A lightweight pop-up camper is on the list so I can find nice spots like you do to camp a night. Getting great ideas off your videos and others on setup. Like the diesel heater setup inside the camper, I use mine for icefishing here in Minnesota. Looking forward to more videos from you, best of luck and happy new year.
