happy new year! so many thoughts. Your production value effort is so impressive in the cold, walk around corner, set up cameras, go back, drive forward, retrieve cameras. Launch drone, retrieve drone. The effort really comes thru in the final cut. Really a joy to watch.
Thank you! I for sure get my exercise in on these trips lol. If its above -20° its not too bad. The trip video coming up next week (I filmed it this weekend) was rough because it was -40° when we were trying to setup camp and I can't be outside for more than a few minutes before losing feeling in my face and hands.)
They were god aweful lol. My suspension is such that if I don't hit washboards at 50+ MPH I feel every single bump and my truck just rattles nonstop lol
Thank you :) I have a ton of timelapses that I need to cobble together and create a relaxing background for folks similar to a 48 hour campfire we all have searched on here lol
DUDE. MAN. First of all, the hoar frost is amazing, is that a common? And this is by far my favorite video you have ever done, the time lapse is just mind blowing! I got a little choked up, it was just non-stop awesomeness. Idea. Make a 2-3 hour edit of aurora & astro timelapse, with a similar score and I will play it on loop at my house 24/7.... just epic.
I have to prep the camera for the night so I will put the lens on and get it ready in the truck bed or at the house to avoid moisture issues. Then I know roughly how long the batteries will last at what temperatures. I can get 3-7 hours depending on how cold it is that night and how long I'm running an exposure.
I used a small rig battery with some hand warmers and a wooly hat in addition to the battery in the camera and shot 7500 photos that night it was -10 or so where I was at. I could have probably gone longer but the memory card was full. Another 10-15 degrees colder and the external battery freezes up quickly but i can still get a lot of shots in. I’m usually rotating a few batteries and letting them warm up
@@dsonnek7781 I have a weatherproof cover I can use and stuff some hand warmers into that but its not worth it to get an extra hour when I already get 700-3k shots depending on temperatures
Really great video! I've flown out over Knik a hundred times or so doing glacier tours, but I've never driven it and have wanted to for years now! How was crossing Jim Creek? Awesome Gladiator and EXCELLENT cinematography, just subscribed, hope your channel does well into the future!
thank you so much for subscribing and the kind words. I spent most of new years day out at the glacier and man were tours going hard that day. about every 20 minutes a new plane or helicopter was flying over! We had one helicopter landing and one plane landing on the lake which was cool to watch as well. The route I take brings you through the woods and drops you down onto the gravel bar so the only sketchy crossing (If you can call it that) is Friday creek and then there is a beaver dam flooded area in the woods near wolf point. Over new years it was perfectly fine but with the recent heat wave its all melted and now the gravel bars are bare with open water everywhere.
@dogandajeep Yeah it's a busy place back there for being somewhat "remote", pretty awesome to have something like the Knik right in our backyards! I've been wondering if there was a better way to get in there that dropped you on the other side of Jim Creek... I was back there last year on a four-wheeler exploring a little bit but at that time Jim Creek was too deep to cross, at least for my comfort level on a borrowed ATV. I figured it had probably melted quite a bit since you were there, hopefully it firms up again soon!
@@NP-ug1ij 35's are the max you can run on the gladiator without needing to have concerns over the strength of the axles. Once you go up to 37's you introducer a lot of potential issues including the changes needed to be able to fit such a tire without rubbing. Additionally 35's and a 2 inch lift don't break the factory or extended warranty but anything taller or larger and you'll find troubles getting things covered under warranty through the dealerships.
@@NP-ug1ij awesome thank you so much! I've tried creating different types of videos and found that if I don't enjoy the editing of it, I'll end up spending three weeks on it out of procrastination but if I have fun on the trip and Odin is running around I can almost have the video edited within 10-ish hours.

CRAZY light show... wow. Do you have to do anything to keep the camera warm enough to stay on?

I wonder if one of those hand warmer packs would help keep it warm.

Your video is outstanding. Happy New Year.
Thank you! Happy new year to you as well!
What an amazing night!!! I’m going to invest in the padded chair from Alaska Gear Company to keep my back warm. Awesome footage 🎉
Ignik makes a seat warmer that plugs into a cigarette lighter that can also work if you have a portable power bank!
@ hopefully it works better than my gobi heated chair
@@Staleb77 combine that with the heated blanket and you'll be toasty all night!
Well done sir!
Appreciate it! Thanks for watching

Awesome video! Are those tires 35s or 37s ?
Thanks for watching! They are 35 inch KO2's
Anything specific to stay on 35s as opposed to 37s ? Just curious if there is anything technical or performance related point to be aware of. Thanks!
