Well... If you would read a book by dt Shanna Shawn called Count down you would get a better understanding of this and realize that your grandfather did not have these problems. The acumulation of chemicals has been making the population less fertile and messing with our hormones. The decline of testosterone in men is not a secret or a myth. Look it up. One of the causing factors is indeed fertilisers.
The question is, do we trust what the EPA deems is safe? Apparently the safety limits for a lot of things seem to get watered down over the years thanks to powerful lobbying corporations. And USA/CANADA may have a lot more lax safety standards and limits than Europe does.
How ironic, I was just on Briannah Jewel's YT channel watching a video on "OATzempic" yes that's what it was about, an oatmeal concoction that will make you lose weight from tic-tok, and I left a comment quoting you Layne. The dosage make the poison. I love that quote. I mention this because earlier I saw a YT video saying how toxic oatmeal will kill us if we eat it. I also left a Layne comment about HRCTs.
I feel bad for the t-shirt sleeves. The biceps have gotten so big that they are about to hulk-bust out of the sleeves....good material, as always. EWG is whackadoodle.
Is Layne really suggesting that organic versions of food without pesticides is not better? Nobody (nobody serious at least) is arguing the nutritional value is better. The argument is against the potential adverse accumulated health impacts over a long period of exposure. What's the reason for the HUGE disparity between the EPA and EWG's standards? Because I can tell you from personal experience in MY FIELD (air pollution), that the EPA's standards are not nearly strict enough, and neither are the standards of other governing bodies, including the WHO (for some major pollutants), so the fact that the EPA's standrards suggest a far higher threshold isn't an automatic disqualifier for me. EDIT: Some basic googling, like Layne suggested, and look at what I found (this is kind of disturbing if true imo, unless there's some extra context I'm missing of course): "In 2017, Taminco, a subsidiary of the giant Eastman Chemical Company, petitioned the Trump EPA to permit chlormequat in oats imported into the U.S. The company requested that a “tolerance” of 15 parts per million, or ppm, be allowed. It also sought tolerances for other grains and for meat products from animals that feed on these grains. In response, in 2018, the EPA established tolerances for oats and the other items. Then, in 2019, Taminco petitioned the EPA to further raise the tolerance. In response, the agency increased the chlormequat tolerance on imported oats to 40 ppm". So the EPA's far higher tolerance is highly questionable AT BEST. This is wild, though not surprising. www.ewg.org/research/ewg-investigation-dangerous-agricultural-chemical-chlormequat-found-popular-oat-based
EEA regulates it to 15ppm for oats (non organic). And usually EEA is much more cautious than EPA. EWG btw has more software engineers and government affairs personnel than MDs and toxicologists. (Doesn't mean they are wrong because of that, but I trust EEA more than any US group or org tbh)
@@jousis_ EXACTLY! That's even lower than the EWG's standard. And guess what? @@orcanimal I am not knowledgeable enough to argue for/against the limit of 40 (or 15) but the whole lobbying "procedures" of US politics are very confusing. I mean, we (EU) are not perfect, but I would trust the EU regulatory orgs over US without second thought. From what I understand, on this issue, EEA limits are on the cautious side but more in the middle, but they DO regulate, EPA has a "limit on imports" but does not really regulate the use in production (except organic) and EWG pushes for extremely low limits because of "reasons".
@@jousis_ From my personal anecdotal experience, the EPA is really nowhere near strict enough and seems to provide the most basic and hyper general guidelines... I definitely think it's good you pointed out the funding source for this study, but I believe the media is the one who is over blowing the risk to fertility. The paper doesn't directly say that sperm or fertility will be impacted, merely that there has been some evidence, granted in animal models that there can be impacts from this chemical to fertility. And that because of this further research is warranted . The paper also goes on to point out that there are other studies that show no impacts from these chemicals on fertility. Is it possible that you can have increases in certain health biomarkers while simultaneously having endocrine disruption? Are endocrine biomarkers measured in many of the studies that show increases in health outcomes for those who consume grains and cereals?
