Goldeneye is my favourite floor staring simulator.
"They can't hurt you if you can't see them", said James Bond to himself as he cowered to the exit at max speed
007 Might as well be dabbing his way through these levels, as confused guards look on in futility, unable to stop him.
Sometimes you stare at the sky though.
Do we not have the technology to avoid the ground staring? Or is that a feature at this point?
@@esotericVideos yeah, so could they play it on an oveclocked n64 or emulator with oc? Or would these guys get lost looking forward after memorizing every tile on the floor? 😂

Yeah same. I don't even play computer games

thats why Karl is the best speedgames youtuber, he represents the hobby in a super emgaging manner through the lens of a super high level runner.

Natalya getting yeeted out of the elevator gets me everytime
Lol right
*yote
MY greatest gaming achievement involved Natalia and the elevator. Using unlocked weapons cheat... Placed proximity mines near the cave wall outside of the elevator and watch mines around her.... Click the watch blasted her as you see in the video... When she flies out the elevator she hits the proximity mines which then blasts her upwards.....ha
I fell on the damn floor when I seen her flying out the elevator!🤣
I love how passionately you talk about these runs its very inspiring!
He is a speedrunner himself, so of course he's very passionate

I'm not a speedrunner, but as a fan I generally prefer when speedruns are timed by in-game timers, especially ones that round to the nearest second. It makes every new record that much more meaningful, since especially in GoldenEye you could have literally have dozens of people tie a world record before you get that one incredible run that brings it down one more second.
P.S. You know I'm talking about your Dam 52 run Karl, you absolute LEGEND!
The thought of James Bond blowing off Natalya's hand and forearm to move her position in the movie makes me lol.
"Evidently Rayan has been on something of a tear lately."
Understatement of the century.
The Bunker 2 strat is actually from 2014. Though I didn't get my 0:46 until 2016.

I'm not even into speedrunning myself, but your videos are so amazingly produced that it makes them so interesting and fun to watch. Definitely the best speedrunning content creator in the game.
I achieved a time of 12:00 on watching the video which many believe to be a perfect score.
Yeah right but it clearly counts only on "AdBlock" leaderboards, no way of getting sub-12:05 in "Ads Remaining" category!
You're forgetting the 'speed option' strategy. Easily can get under 6:05 that way
@quacc
Yeah but speeding up video probably leads to not fully conceiving certain aspects of video and/or audio, so it's clearly "any%" by then
12 is fully optimized

Love your videos, mate. Great to get perspective from someone who actually does this stuff on the regular.
It's great to see your subscriber count goes up this quickly nowadays. I'm not even into speedrunning, nor have I played any of the games you're covering, but I've still watched every single video you've uploaded haha. You're doing a fantastic job with these videos.

Great stuff Karl!
This one time in the 90s my friend was playing Control after playing the game all night and somehow glitched it so Natalya skipped the entire sequence of disarming the satellite immediately. Never saw it since but it was a thing
This shall NOT be ignored!

I still love seeing this thumbnail on this video❤️ thanks for all of your awesome uploads
A new video by Karl, and it feels like Christmas morning every time 🔝
I’m not a speed runner, and honestly knew very little about it. The more I’ve watched your, and Summoning Salt’s videos, the more the subject fascinates me. It’s to the point I’ve binged watched almost the entire catalog on both of your channels. I was born in 85’ so the games you usually cover are my childhood. You guys have definitely educated me on just how challenging speed running truly is, and just how hard these people work at their craft. Very impressive, and you all certainly have my respect. Thank you for the excellent content!
These videos are awesome. It's so crazy to see people fine tuning a game from over 2 decades ago.
Damn, the human mind has no limits. Some of these strategies like the minepush or the the perfect npc placement are really good out the box tricks.

"Ryan got especially unlucky over the years, totaling at least 25 runs that ended in a time of 52, with what we call a "Bad Trev".
*(freezeframe of the Bad Trev with his back turned)*
God, I don't know why that had me laughing as hard as it did.
Bad Trev: "Deal with it."
"bad trev" dam, speedrunners don't even have time to say 'trevor'!
This time, we begin as "Absolute Legends" and end as "Heroes".
as nice as it is to see you upload.. I still wanna see more Quake speedrun material from you, I love that shit.
I will for sure
The real time vs in game time segment hurt my head
@@kukuc96 Found the real absolute legend
@@kukuc96 What I don't understand is why lag would slow down Bond's distance per frame, rather than speeding it up (if his speed is tied to actual time) or keeping it the same (if his speed is tied to the framerate).
Thank you for making this video. Have a nice and wonderful day.
The Facility optimization baffled me, I struggled in 00 agent to get it under 2:05 to get the invincibility cheat, but this is amazing!!
When in-game time and real time somehow collide with each other, probably changing the in-game events I feel reminded of 'schrödinger's cat' and the vast & marvelous world of quantum physics...
Great video karl, thanks! Its worth noting, the forum link you gave has a TON of awesome information about the game and levels. Just read on for a few minutes people, you'll be amazed.

Havent been gamer sence ps2 days, and never knew speedrunning was soo big. I done watched all your videos involving Goldeneye and Perfect Dark. Am i the only one who keeps rushin back to this guys channel daily in hopes of new content!?!?
Karl.. you are possibly the best commentator/narrator I have ever listened to.. period!
Holy crap that was weird. When the goldeneye music started playing it’s like a flood of memories from my childhood came to me. Good video by the way
YOU ARE AN ABSOLUTE LEGEND!!!!!!!!!
Love this perfect dark song you choose on a lot. Of your videos.
When I was a teenager playing coop missions with my little brother back in 2000 or whenever this game came out, xpansion pack included, I'd go into the settings and pick this exact one to play. If I remember right, you could choose the music track for multiplayer or.. Maybe it was single player? Maybe it was just an options setting to test music tracks. Anyway it was so chill I remember always picking it. (first song you play on this video)
God this brings me back - right back to the dorm rooms in college.
Lots of records being beaten in recent times.
BIg exciting to wake up and feel bleh but then see a Karl video right here, freshly in my inbox :D
Sick name
I remember back when I tried to get the Invinciblity cheat and got my 00 Agent 1:46. Out of a day worth of runs only a minimal number of them succeeded but none of them gave me the cheat. Only after Doak was in the hallway and Trev was near the stairs I got the cheat with a time that was around 19 secs better than the time needed to get the cheat. The RNG is damn real on Facility and unlocking Invincibility is still (two years after getting Goldeneye and getting the cheat) my proudest gaming moment.
Have not cared for speed running in my life but I still love watching your videos lol
@Karl Jobst, what truly amazes me is just how close some speed runs are to TAS runs.
What's more, I just like the idea of using in game timer rather than real time (which is what almost every game uses). It's fun trying to shave a few milliseconds off to reach a new benchmark, rather than a continuous improvement of time where there's no real excitement or sense of striving to reach new goals.
Immediately recognized the background at the beginning as Chicago stealth from Perfect dark.
U r a absolute legend keep up the great work And vids😊😊👾👾Also happy spooktober🎃🎃👾👾
Great content as well
I am glad to see this amazing game that made so many peoples childhoods is still being played in 2019
You rock, Karl!
You're breathtaking!
After watching the comparison a bunch in fast and slow motion, the main differences in time is due to be lag affecting the timer, with the slower but also faster run, having more happening.
The times are basically identical at the start, however, the right run is aiming lower, and has a lower time, until the time on the left looks more at the ground and the timer overtakes it. And until the security gate, both are basically identical, but the right video overtakes it due to a better viewing angle showing slightly more wall, but then loses time due to a guard shooting Bond in the next segment. The next segment has the right camera take a hit, which appears to overall affect the rate of the clock as after this for a few ticks, the timer only goes up between 0.03 seconds and 0.05 seconds max for a small moment of time , where as the left can go as high as 0.09 through ticks at the same time. At this segment, the right screen progressed 1.05 seconds (29.15 until 30.20) while the left progressed 2.05 seconds (29.75 to 31.80) within the EXACT same time frame (checked via pausing and recording down the times at 0.25x speed, it's not a guess).
And now is when the left video pulls ahead, you'll notice that towards the end, the left video spends slightly more optimized time looking at the ground, and while running along the dam, the guardrail sprite itself obscures more of the mountains in the background when compared to the right video (check and pause at around 10:49 for reference if it doesn't make much sense), and this is where the timer starts to more drastically differentiate.
The less lag the system has to deal with, the faster the in-game timer can run. The more lag, the slower it runs due to all that's going on. And that something as simple as bringing up the blue and red bars can slow the timer by A LOT also.. Does more lag slow the results screen timer also? I'm guessing this Gameshark code is just a visual representation of said results timer. Surely someone can test this just by running to the end of Runway w Invincibility on, with the timer on, one looking at the ground with, and the other looking ahead, and see if the time results in the left being slower due to the clock having less lag slowing it down.
TL;DR Lag speeds up and slows down the in-game clock, with more to process, the less in game time gets passed, so the in-game timer is overall influence..able. The old "game speed tied to a frame-rate that fluctuates" gimmick. Someone feel free to call me an egg, an absolute legend, or Captain Obvious.
I have no interest of speedrunning games but you make these sound so interesting. Like I’m watching some kind of documentary. Keep it coming man!
dat natalya elevator explosion clip doe xD love it.
Someone should mod Dr. Doak's name to show as Dr. D'oh! when he spawns in an unfavorable location.

To avoid insulting the real life Dr. David Doak who helped develop the game?
From what I know in meeting some of these speed-runners in person, I’m sure they wouldn’t mind. There’s even an awesome mod that...
