THE GREAT OCEAN ROAD!
An early start for a day trip along the Great Ocean Road with some of my very favourite spots to hang out and capture some beautiful images. The weather was a little lousy, and my early morning GoPro and audio success wasn't great, but it gets better as the clip progresses.. So stick with it, and stick with me as the only way for my content is up!
About Ash...
This is the start of my UA-cam journey. My very first video as I learn all about video editing, audio, and everything in between. I'm a landscape and wedding photographer from Torquay, Victoria and looking to take the family on a big lap of Australia for the entirety of 2023. This channel is about the build up to that trip, learning about video creation and content, and then ultimately the trip itself. How it evolves in between then is anyone's guess, but help me out in the comments with what you'd like to see.

Gread video & amazing spots! To have them to yourself just make them all the more special. The otways is full of gems, can't wait to see more videos and photos! 🌿
I pinch myself being the only one at theee spots everytime. Thanks for the kind words
Well done on blogging while climbing them stairs in Hopetoun! I couldn’t have done that 😄 you have a great eye for shots, I’ll enjoy following along your videos, looking forward to seeing more from your upcoming trip 😃
Thanks Brad. I had some practice earlier in the day at Gibson Steps when I was trying to talk as I was climbing out of them haha. It's those types of things that you don't think of, especially when my lav mic is right under my chin hearing every gasp for air!
Love it 😍. Can wait to see all your adventures and amazing content.👍
Cheers Pauly, hopefully I can keep the folks entertained on here
Well done, look forward to seeing more. Loved Hopetoun Falls and the Redwoods, and the coastal views. We live in an amazing part of the world.
It's a beautiful area, in it's own wild little way! And even in the pouring rain.
Amazing Ash!! Look forward to following along!! Your favourite side track to those cliffs looks incredible and a little gnarly on the walk out there. Love the ever changing landscape!
Cheers Kate. Yeah one day some poor soul will get stuck out on that ledge when it all collapses around them.. Hopefully it's not me.
Couldn’t agree more with the walk to the Apostles. I don’t think you fully appreciate the size of the cliffs and how majestic the place is. It’s a feeling you experience every visit. Never gets old for me. I also never knew about Hopetoun Falls. Can’t wait to check them out. Really enjoyed the video!!
Gotta get to Hopetoun Adrian. It's a sensation. The size of the cliff is evident mostly at Gibson Steps when you're standing next to them!
How wonderful Ash. So excited to see all the wonderful destinations that you show so well in your photography. Looking foward to the adventures. Well done you. Hubby and I were at the apostles three weeks ago. An amazing part of the world.
It certainly is a beautiful part of our little world. Thanks for following along
Nice one mate, loved it, no bullshit and down to earth. 👍
Cheers mate, hopefully I can keep it that way and still be entertaining enough
How exciting! Can’t wait to see all the amazing content. I live in Victoria and haven’t traveled any of it, so looking forward to experience it through you. Love your photos so looking forward to learning more about the process. Good on you for steeping into the unknown for growth! Enjoy :)
Thanks Sarah, hopefully I can keep you all entertained and you learn something along the way
Whenever you say "Thank you" (like in 00:57) look at the camera 😉.
You should be proud of this and believe in yourself because you are a massive photographer!
I'm a big fan of yours! Good luck with this new project mate!
I like that comment about the thank you part. Its more meaningful that way. I just need to become more comfortable actually talking to the camera - feels weird!
Great video & thanks for sharing & I remember my first visit to the Twelve Apostles when the London Bridge was still there 👍👍👍
I love London Bridge, even without the bridge being there. The way the water moves there is something else
@@AshHughesPhotos Thanks and maybe as another video could you please cover the gear that you are using?
Yeah definitely on my list to cover, and love chasing about why i have this or that.
Love your photos, really great shots and wish you all the best with your youtube channel
Thanks for following along
💜 the vid & lookin forward to more, genuine & homegrown
Glad you do. Thanks very much 👌
Congrats Ash,
Well done mate looking forward to seeing more!
Cheers Shane, hopefully I can continue to create something half interesting
Brilliant work Ash! I’m looking forward to following your videos.
It’s a pretty exciting time for you and your family.
Your photography is amazing!
Thanks very much Mary. I hope you enjoy the channel going forward. Even on that big smart TV of yours!
The skies are so beautiful looking out across the ocean. The clouds make for gorgeous colours when they are painted in oranges , pinks and purples.
Yeah the video made the day look better than it actually was. Here I am complaining on the video all the time, and it looks perfect!
@@AshHughesPhotos Well it was super overcast that's ok. But bcos of all the clouds - sometimes they become bright colours at sunrise and sunset and it's like nothing else on earth. I would have been complaining too LOLs but it's only cos U care about doing the place justice. I get ya !!
Love your work Ash!! Will need to purchase a copy of the shot at 20:08 pretty please! That needs to be on my wall!!!! Can't wait to see your journey!! 🤙🏽
Thanks Erin, hopefully I can continuing to provide something interesting. That image is now on my website if you did want to get it on your wall.. It's under the Great Ocean Road section: www.ashhughesphotos.com/product-page/mini-me Thanks!
Great video and such a great part of Vic! I live on the Bellarine and I must admit I need to get down the Otways and Great Ocean Rd more often!
Likewise with you, I need to venture over your way more than I do. Thanks for watching
Great work, can’t wait to see more vids. You’ll love the trip around Australia… wish we could go again!
Thanks Kate. I can't wait!
Documentary on Stephenson's falls please and Forest and the fireflies. Loved the narration when you are with the redwoods. The oxygen is so rich there , fresh from Antarctica.
I've never been toe Stephensons. I was in Forrest on Monday, but need to get back as I want to get back to Lake Elizabeth again.
@@AshHughesPhotos it's so worth a look if you ever can. Love Ur work this made my day.
Loved being able to see this while in lockdown, Thankyou
Glad you liked it, and counting down the days now (hopefully) before lockdown ends!
Loving your 1st vid.. so great to see the spots that I have photographed but haven’t visited since lockdown. Soothing my GOR souls till I can get back, hopefully in Nov 21..
Thanks Cheryl. Fingers crossed we can all enjoy our great country soon
Cracking job on your first vid mate, I really enjoyed watching it. Good on you for having the courage (& time) to do a UA-cam channel and look forward to the next ones. Couple of suggestions for future vids - maybe incorporate a few slow mo shots especially around the big reveals and drops in the music, consider a few softer transitions and lastly was you vlog camera shot on hi-res?? it looked lower quality than your other shots.
But seriously mate cracking job on the vid! Super pumped to hear you’re doing the trip! It will be the best time of your life! We still reminisce about our trip so something for you and the family to look forward to!
Thanks mate. Great suggestions. Going forward I need to start with music and incorporate the clips into it which help things piece together better. The blog stuff is GoPro. It's much easier but have realised how much it differs - not sure what to do but I'll definitely keep it lacked away during darker times as the low light is useless. It was seeing families like yours on the road that made us want to do it. We got pregnant after that trip so kinda delayed things a little but it's all guns blazing now!
Just discovered you on Instagram which brought me here! I spend a lot of time down the Great Ocean Road and the Otways working on my amateur photography skills, so I loved every bit of this and your photos are unreal mate!
Cheers Paul for following along. I appreciate the kind words. Not a bad place to work on your photo skills, keep it up and might see you out there one day!
Great start mate. Really liked the style as it immersed me in the locations. Also helped I was just up there yesterday. Glad we didn't bother with Beauchamp. Only way to learn this stuff is to do. You'll improve with each edit, but this is a great start. PS - how hard is it to talk to the camera? Don't think I'm ever more self conscious than when I do that. Need to have no people around.
Thanks BW. Yeah I made sure I was well away from anyone when talking, and even pretending not to be doing it when surprised by another couple.
Follow you on Instagram too mate. Love ya work. We recently put the boat in at Peterborough and took a trip up to the twelve apostles. Was awesome. Encountered about 100 dolphins on the way home too. Highly recommended. We live down in Warrnambool and there are plenty more sick spots to check out as you keep heading our way. Childers Cove, Terry's beach, Lake Gillear & Thunder Point
Cheers James. That's be amazing. I'd love to have access to the Apostles and everything in between via boat - there'd be some epic shots from the ocean side. I love the Childers area, gives me pirate vibes 😂
