Unsolicited advice from someone who has been where you are standing? Get ONE RIOOM habitable in the house. A good working wood -burning stove is the difference between a survivable winter, and the utter misery of a damp, chilly caravan. One room where you can sit and warm up, maybe a hot plate for simple meals - it doesn’t have to be lovely, but it has to function as a working space. Get a chimney sorted - and all will be brighter come your first gale. Best of all great good luck to you both.
Croeso I gymru from fellow English person moved to Wales. I don`t have a small holding - just a garden. Please take into account that Wales is one of the most nature depleted countries in the World, mostly due to farming practices. There are various initiatives going on all over Wales to farm in a nature friendly way, to increase biodiversity, and restore nature and wildlife. It would be great if you guys could join in with that.
A wood burner is an absolute MUST! As a farmer I have lived in so many farmhouses where the power goes out for hours/days and the only heat in the winter is a fireplace. We put a wood-burner in over 20yrs ago and it has so changed our heating costs, but also given us heat when the electric goes down in Norfolk. Loved watching your videos so far and look forwards to lot more to come x
My goodness that was a frantic start for you both and bless your neighbours heart, that was great help both times. Caravan looks comfy budget friendly 😊 Best of luck and looking forward to seeing your future videos 😊
Hahaha don’t worry we have got the message loud and clear from all the comments, it’s just our second one so we are still getting to grips with it all! Glad you enjoyed otherwise though!
Ah! Another Renovation Channel! :) I'm happy to see your beginnings and progress and I am looking forward for the evolving of your dream house. With you good luck!
Great you got the water and sewage hooked up and a trailer to live in. You might consider insulating and cladding the outside of it for winter though. thanks for lovely background music again, was fun to watch.
Lose the background music it’s very dated. Lovely shirt sharp video can’t wait to watch something longer explaining your journey even more! Well done!👍
Awesome top work there getting the utilities to your temporary home..just as you started strumming that field I though you need a tractor, looks like you have great neibours 👍
I would never know you were city people by all the work you have accomplished. Some city people would never pick up a shovel and dig. Too many critters in all that dense grass and wet grown. The possibility for each of the buildings is mind blowing. PS, the music is happy!
Thanks very much! My body definitely felt like I had never used a shovel before the next day 😂. I thought the music was pretty non offensive and happy too!! - might try some death metal next week 😂😂
I am very interested in the history of the small holding! How long had the previous owner lived there? Is that a smaller cottage at right angles to one of the outbuildings? When was the bigger house built? What livestock and crops did they grow? What was the horse incident that slowed down your closing? I also think that perhaps your neighbour is happy to see somebody living and farming on the property, and, as well as being a neighbourly person, he is trying to make sure that you don't get discouraged and leave!
Very interesting will be following all your updates wish you all the best but one point the music is a little bit loud when you are talking makes it a little difficult to follow
Pob lwc. We moved to Carmarthenshire to a 1908 house, previously we had a council house in e sussex. Ongoing projects all the time but so worth the upheaval
Brilliant idea to get a caravan so you can live on site, it doesnt have to be gorgeous inside just practical and warm. Im so excited to come on this journey with you😊 xx
Great vidéo, caravan really good idea giving you plenty of time to work on site. You are both working very hard. Can't wait for next instalment. Great to have good neighbours, the Welsh are lovely people.
If you're going to survive the build and living in that caravan my suggestion is to line somewhere with fireproof boards and get a wood stove in it... I did it for a friend and he loved it.. makes winter so much more comfortable and survivable if thats a word
😅lovely video when watching the tractor and haycutter chopping the overgrown field reminded me of an American strimmer i used in similar circumstances but it was on wheels it would have gone through that like butter it was supplied by a garden tool company in Bridgend sth wales very nice of the gentleman to do it for you and site the caravan for you good luck 😊😊
Well done 👍 Thats alot of hard work and the renovations haven’t started yet.😀 I’m looking forward to seeing what you have planned. Cheers sue Melbourne Australia 🇦🇺
Please, please reconsider the background music in future videos. The sensory overload makes it very hard to watch, and I really want to watch all of this journey!
Already in love with your video style, with narration. Can't wait to follow your adventure - it might even spur me on to keep going with my own renovation! I seem to have been enjoying the "planning / thinking about it" stage for a rather long time 😂
Love the videos can’t wait for future episodes and maybe more background on the two of you, how you found the property and what the “horse problem” was! Thank you for allowing us to be part of your journey. Peter and Debbie
Thanks so much! Yeah we will definitely share some more as we go along although neither of us particularly love being on camera but we can always do it with the narration!
I love a good restoration and my word you’ve got an a lot of work ahead of you both. Looking forward to see how you develop this project. Please could you make a longer video as I was really enjoying watching. Hello from Argyll
I’m so looking forward to watching you both build a beautiful home together, I’m sure there will be times when you wonder if it’s all worth it, but believe me it will be, as a matter of fact it will be amazing you already have lovely neighbours, so until the next episode take care and keep smiling.
Just found your channel, good luck with all the renovations and looking forward to following you. Makes a great change from watching people who have moved to Portugal, following another couple who have moved to Wales
Looking forward to watching this progress. This is something my wife and I have dreamed of doing but never taken the step, so good luck and can’t wait to see how it turns out 👍
Welcome to Wales. As already suggested, I would get one room in the main house that is livable as best you can. Winter can be brutal here and very very wet. If you have one room you can have a fire or stove in, it'll be the difference between misery and copeable. The weather for the last 4 years has been wetter than anyone in our village can remember. I'm really looking forward to your progress. Congratulations on such a big step. You're going to be just fine.
Is music really necessary? Music and speaking at the same time is a definite no no. It is spoiling what has the making of a interesting channel and project.

More unsolicited advice! Do you intend to have fruit trees? If so before everything else plant the trees. They take years to mature, and the sooner they are planted the sooner they can be growing in the background while you get on with the renovations. 🌳🌳🌳
Loving all this unsolicited advice, it’s great!! Absolutely, I’ve been thinking about that too and about the planting in general, I think we will try and get some in very soon possibly in the next few weeks actually, we have a perfect area for it. Also thinking of getting some willow in for coppicing?
@@citytosmallholdingwillow is great and grows fast, welcome to message me, I'm not sure where exactly you're based but I will be cutting my coloured willow soon and rooting the cuttings, welcome to some.

I second this important bit of advice from experience - one warm space is essential!
Also houses deteriorate so fast when not lived in and loved. I think this is great advice.
Will certainly be following your progress. Just one thing to mention. Perhaps turn music down as it's competing with the vocals too much.
Enjoyed the narration. Information spiced with a touch of humor. It's all good.
Glad you enjoyed it!
What a wonderful property!
Such a dreamy location, so beautiful! And you got some cow friends already. 🥰
The outbuildings are great.
Wishing you both the very best of luck.

We have two wood burners…wouldn’t be without them!
Enjoyed watching your amazing adventure, they are right about the music being to loud, just turn it down a bit.
I hope the caravan is warm enough. Here in Pennsylvania skirting would be an absolute must.
Great content but loose the music! It’s driving us mad 😂

Looks like you have a little Rhododendron ponticum 'problem' there (if you subscribe to that philosophy).
Yeah we have A LOT of them, I quite like them though 🤦🏻♀️ maybe I shouldn’t admit to that 😂
Well, they were native to Britain before the last ice age, and the science behind 'invasive' species is iffy at best. And they are lovely.
Hello! Following along your journey from here in Canada. 🇨🇦 No advice, just encouragement to you during this adventure. Can you define "smallholding"?
I think the term used in the US/Canada is a homestead? Basically just a small farm
