The way we've avoided the person + attribute thing (if that's a "problem" for your group) is put the people tokens into a draw bag and have the director draw them out randomly. The rest go into the chest. Also, that other thing about playing certain cards for certain things can totally backfire when your hand is nothing but those kinds of cards. So we avoid that.
I also enjoyed that Hitchcock makes a cameo in the cards.

Have been hearing good things about this one. Will probably pick it up when it hits a sale at Target. Thanks for the review!

We found ourselves unconsciously playing cards to the Left for the people and on the Right for attributes, where feasible. We were copying the example given in the rule book, but could not find any specific rules that either endorsed or discouraged this practice. I do think the art on the cards is very well done, as it's variable enough to be open to interpretation and I have heard some interesting discussions among the watchers about the key piece of information on a particular card that was not even close to what I was trying to communicate.
Prospero Hall has been knocking it out of the park, and would love to see them do more movie tie-ins! 🖖

Ya the same happened in our games... but not 100% of the time. It's a nice sort of thing to fall back on, and then to break it when appropriate.

This will be played while I watch Rear Window every Christmas Eve. I love that this film has inspired a game designer. Brilliant!

Have an upcoming trip to a cabin *this* weekend, and this looks like the perfect addition. Triggered a mad dash of which attendee's Target has one for store pickup to get it in time, aha. Thanks for the review as always!

Yeah, I keep hearing that this is a solid game. Personally, I love those old Hitchcock movies... in fact, I have Psycho on in the background as I type this. lol No joke! ;-) I'll need to try this one, for sure.

I'm a huge fan of the film and I've been obsessed with this game. I'm also very keen on Prospero Hall games (I love Jaws and Horrified). So it seems like a match made in heaven. I've watched and read many reviews of Rear Window the board game and I think it'll be a hit in my group. As I was watching the film yesterday, I already understood the thematic hook, the possibility that the entire conclusion made by the main characters could've been wrong all along. And I think the game mirrors it excellently.
I own Mysterium (Tajemnicze Domostwo, as I'm Polish), I never got to play it, although I learned myself to play it, but I think this one will work better because of cool interaction between the director and the watchers plus the presence of words on cards. Thanks for an entertaining review, I subscribed to your channel just now :)

I've played it a few times with mixed groups and I've started teaching it without the murder in play as you suggested; I'm surprised that didn't solve your family issue as it has worked as a full coop for me with non gamers.
I adore the design of the window cards. I find them to be cleverly and deliberately put together to be simultaneously useful and misleading on their own. It creates a very different play experience than the "dixit" card games.
    Nice review as always :)
