It will be a media and gaming device. we thought Apple TV would be the next iPhone.. it was not :) And dont get me started on Apple Watch Apps.. Name 10 good ones :)
@@seanallen yes it will be groundbreaking.... but as for apps its probably just going to be 2d ipad apps for a long while maybe with some 3d models thrown in. . This came right on time my bro. As i was getting ready to start uploading Unity and Adobe Aero to my channel 😂 Hopefully we can work with each other soon
Okay. I will say it: AI is not that good. AI is capable of generating images or text, because it was built on top of an enormous amount of data. Programming is different :D
I have tried several coding AI and it was more trouble than it was worth. Much easier to code it myself. Once they can fully understand the whole project code base that may change.
Hey Sean, just want to say that I think you're a really good teacher. I'm really happy that this news series is coming back, as it can be hard to follow everything that happens on the Apple side of development. Love your videos!
Therefore they didn’t need so many of them to do the same work = (potentially) jobs lost. I say potentially because the beast itself changes and now the chainsaws need to be maintained etc. But now run your chainsaw analogy further and you have large machines with built in chainsaws decimating a forest in a day with one operator, not so many lumberjacks with axes but one guy driving a machine.
Keep up the good work! If anyone would like to play around with server side swift LSP, and tmux/vim, or making a RataTUI-like Swift project send them my way.
I think Spatial Computing is the next iPad. It won't be as big as iPhone or Mac, but Spatial Computing is an ideal content consumption device, just like iPad is. I'm excited to have one and think Vision Pro is worth the price in 2024.
I agree with this. I mean... being as big as the iPhone or Mac is a pretty big ask. But if it can carve out an iPad-like adoption, that's a huge win in my opinion.
Uh... your perception of the iPad is outdated, but that accidentally makes your point still. The iPad started off as a content consumption device, but with apps like Procreate and Final Cut, iPads are now creating content in many ways beyond MacOS and Windows devices. Similarly, it's conceivable that spacial computing will one day be a creation platform ahead of today's status quo.
Using Xcode and viewing the simulator in real time in AVP while typing this to you as a 3D object that can be manipulated on the desk next to this comment. “Not as big” for some maybe. Game changer for others
@@seanallenI assume you have tried this by now, but using Xcode in AVP is absolutely insane. Now i can see my 3D content in real time as i type out the code. Blender works the same way. Real time… Unbelievable
Sean I can tell you were a salesman before going to iOS full time. It takes one to know one. I truly enjoyed this. Lots of things to read this week. Thanks.
That's so inspiring! Thank you for bringing Swift News back! I am writing Swift code pretty much every day, but never have time and desire to read some blog posts and stay on top of the game with all the trends. But I am never missing your videos! Keep this up!
Great job, glad this is back. AI might be DOA before it gets to the Pt of replacing all of us (and not just programmers) - they admitted they had to illegally webscrape others’ IP to make anything meaningful in AI. Let the lawsuits begin! If they have to share revenue or pay royalties, the business case may fall apart. For us app devs - just keep learning.
Wow, it's such great news that Swift News is back 🎉🎉🎉 I am looking forward to enjoying these each month, thanks for all the well presented things your are showing us there!
Hello, Sean! I remember in one of the videos you said that you have a file with the stuff you use frequently. Could you please make a video to tell more about it?

Glad to see swift news return!
Good to be back :)
It will be a media and gaming device. we thought Apple TV would be the next iPhone.. it was not :) And dont get me started on Apple Watch Apps.. Name 10 good ones :)
It will be niche for sure. But I think once it matures (5+ years from now), it'll carve out a nice spot for itself and be successful.

I think it can make programmers more efficient, but I'm not seeing a full on replacement of developers any time soon.
I have tried several coding AI and it was more trouble than it was worth. Much easier to code it myself. Once they can fully understand the whole project code base that may change.
I agree with this sentiment.
The news was superb and informative. Thank you very much sir.
Glad you liked it
Really like what you said about looking at top apps and getting some inspiration, would of never thought to do that!
Glad it was helpful!
Whem swiftui is become mainstream...i not like uikit anymore
Depends on your minimum iOS target. If you can support a minimum of iOS 16 or 17, I'd say you're good to go (for 90% of projects)

Please do.

Happy to be back. I see what you're saying, but I think it's way too soon to call AI DOA. Gotta see how things play out.
You sir are a gentleman and a scholar. Glad that Swift News is back. Keep them coming!
Much appreciated
Welcome back! I’m tryna get a new Swift News sweatshirt when you relaunch the merch

I really hope the launch of Vision Pro to be successful, its success would create lots of opportunities for Swift developers.
I think it will take a few years to really hit its stride. These first few versions are kinda like a beta.

No problem. I'm happy it's back too.
Not only is the bar being raised buy ironically enough AI also provides the tools to step up your own game up by taking care of the boiler plate code.
Yup.
Thanks for bringing this back, Sean, always a clear and concise overview. Nicely done!
