This is for me at least the very best Bach Lute Suites recording I have ever listened to. I remember when I heard this recording for the first time back in 1993 on Decca London’s double CD (which I still have), I didn’t know what hit me. I had heard Segovia, Bream, Williams, Parkening, Fisk and others but this was just another level. The trills, mordents , syncopation, cadences are all masterful. still brings tears to my eyes when I listen to it now after 30 years. My Bach is basically modeled after him (perhaps too much 😄).

EXCEPTIONNEL!!!

Another of the exceptional recordings being made available to us by Classical Music/Reference Recording. For me, after many years living in Spain and with my love of Bach, and Segovia, this interpretation resonates with magic and intelligence and quite simply, with beauty. Thank you for sharing this superb performance.

Chaconne kills me every time- such breadth, such depth, I don't know how a human mind can conceive such a thing. Outstanding performance btw...

Wonderful album that I discovered in 1991, and finally found a few years later... A real must-have.... I wish I had other album by this Eduardo Fernandez.... It's an essential recording of Bach's works.

This is an interpretation & performance that brings an aspect of Bach's (apparent) intention to life, & very individually. Fernández has made transcriptions here that suit his evident enthusiasm for these works, & bring energy & confidence to his playing. His almost throwaway bravura embellishments express something very Spanish (I have a Spanish Mama) - in fact, it has almost a Flamenco sensibility, which I consider high praise when integrated with the discipline of Bach's structures. As to tempos: nothing seems to upset some listeners more than varying their familiar pace in certain works. I think that strength & consistency of interpretation overrides this type of objection, especially when intensity of feeling & fine, even, as here, brilliant technique are applied authentically. The accompanying notes are quite interesting; I wonder if the old debate about the Dm Suite & Chaconne's possible origin as a lute/vihuela work might gain insight from them (probably not to those musicologists who are infuriated by the suggestion...). This deserves many more listeners, & CD purchases - I shall buy one for myself, certainly.

It's pretty rare now, I'm afraid... I saw one on sale from Discogs, today - 19-07-2021, but only in the USA... a real pity as this man has got such a talent ! Whne i finally found it n, quite a number fop years after searchiong for it in the late 90's, it was like a treasure, really. Having a copy wasn't the same, and the notes he wrote in the booklet are very interesting.

Beautiful renditions with the guitar! Gives me a deeper appreciation of the suite. I love how this form brings together German, French, Spanish and English dance forms to create one work.
