    It is Bach himself who played this piece for the first time on violin in Coethen. The first instrument that Bach learned and played was the violin from age 5 to ten under his father's teaching. His father died and Bach went to leave with his uncle and learned organ pipe. This is an answer for the one who think that Bach was only a keyboard player (Bach was playing seven instruments) he was a violin master as well as an harpsichord killer player, as well as a pipe organ monster, as well... Jean Rondeau is a killer playeras well but a soft killer, a gentle killer of absurdity, monstruosity, of our world. For several minute he created a mad, sad, beautiful world and he puts all his soul;and mastery to enjoy the music and he's happy as we are, to see such a noble children of or century, hard worker and fully passionnate give justice to Bach on harpsichord !! Thank you Monsieur Rondeau !!!

    No matter which instrument, this piece hits me hard...it's incredible how deep it sinks into your heart...and it's surprisingly beautiful on the harpsichord in this performer's hands. When it modulates in major key, I feel like someone is whispering me, "it's all right, you can relax and rest, nothing is going to hurt you", followed by the part that has feelings of loss and loneliness, like the sun starts going down and you face is now in the shadow, but still feel alive and someway very positive, taking the fate as it is, holding all the memories of joy and sorrow... it's just unbelievable you feel like going through all the phase of your life and al the emotions you felt so vividly in such a short amount of time.
    And harpsichord sounds so beautiful, like a gentle sunlight passing through leaves of trees, or snowflakes slowly breaking down on your hand, warm, poetic, telling stories, leading you to find a little happiness in every moment, appreciation for being here....

      very beautiful description!
      transitions to major and then to minor sections pretty much make me feel the same things, and we can only imagine what was Bach himself thinking about while writing this chaconne

      Well said. The best music is a form of psychology without words: it conveys a stylized meaning of experience. The most curious is that this is possible thanks to the interrelationships of the notes, which is a fluid mathematics. Music filters the meaning from life experiences so that it is lfited from its concrete physical context and becomes accessible to people from other times and places.

    What I like best about Rondeau is his ability see beyond the notes and the phrasing to an organic conception of the music that is always a revelation. It's not virtuosity so much as vision.

      Quelle vision ! Rondeau est certes un grand interprète que l'on apprécie ou pas. Mais pourquoi ce look hirsute ? Dommage cela ne correspond pas à la délicatesse de la sonorité cristalline du clavecin. Il tape sur son instrument avec rage ! A l'allemande ! Il ne reste plus rien du charme équilibré de l'immense Scarlati

    Initially when first saw the title, with harpsichord and Bach chaconne in the same sentence, I figured there was no way a mere harpsichord could ever convey the emotional power of the chaconne since the harpsichord cannot play with dynamics, meaning loudness and softness. And so I clicked on the video just to see how bad it would be. And then to my surprise, I was taken aback by the sheer power conveyed by this performance. Somehow the player pulled it off, and with the chaconne that's no small feat, even on an actual piano never mind the violin. I was blown away. Great performance. And the video cinematography is super high quality, artistically, as well. What can I say, this is just amazing.

      The performance is one thing, the adaptation of the “Chaconne” is quite another. No doubt people would love the performance, but that’s missing the essential point! People try as they might to get the essence of the original piece, for violin, grafted onto another instrument, but the drama is in the constant _bowing_ of the arpeggios, and since that cannot be done on a harpsichord, or piano, or lute, or any non-bowed instrument, it doesn’t sound like the “Chaconne”! That’s the point! As for the thing about “…brilliantly demonstrating the possibilities of the harpsichord,…” what does that even mean??? He does that every time he touches the instrument! Such silliness!!

      Oui, je pensait tout à fait ainsi! Je pense que l'environnment de la performance est un peu drôle mais cela critique nos expectations. Je trouve cette contradiction bien attirante. Mais, quand même, c'est une bonne prestation!

    Tuve la gran fortuna de escucharle en un concierto enteramente dedicado a Bach en la Fundación Juan March de Madrid, el pasado 20 de octubre. Nos deleitó con tres partitas y para terminar con esta maravillosa Chacona. Tengo que admitir que nunca jamás antes había experimentado tal sensación de placer al ver y escuchar interpretar a alguien música alguna. Sin duda nunca he estado tan en contacto con la BELLEZA como ese día con la manera en que Jean Rondeau nos regaló su sublime maestría al clave. Fue la sensación más parecida a estar en contacto con el gran Bach que nunca antes había sentido, y que dudo mucho que pueda volver a sentir. Infinitas gracias, Jean, por toda la vida que me regalaste aquella mañana de sábado

      :) However, i would love to know the name of the maker of the harpsichord - the sound is absolutely beautiful - typical French sonority - might be Flemish, definitely not German!

    • @CodeNameParis
      @CodeNameParis 4 роки тому

      @@LaPopliniere what the fuck are you saying, IT IS the harpichord shown in this video, they probably recorced it beforehand and afterwards recorded the video

    • @LaPopliniere
      @LaPopliniere 4 роки тому

      @@CodeNameParis Clearly, the instrument shown on the video is inspired by the French late 18th century school. However the dark and profound sound of the recorded instrument indicates a German early 18th century harpsichord, probably after Mietke or Zell.
      So, two possibilities :
      - the harpsichord builder has managed to build a German iron stringed instrument in a French shaped case.
      - there are two instruments.

    Une musique d'une abstraction et d'une puissance absolue, qui vous amène ailleurs! Le claveciniste se la pète un peu ..avec cette mise en scène dans ce décor savamment agencé digne d'une mise en scène moderne d'opéra!! mais il est tellement talentueux qu'on est captivé par son jeu aussi bien que par la musique envoutante qu'il souligne de mouvements de sa tête! …

    Surprenante interprétation. Les temps forts ne tombent pas du tout là où mon oreille de violoniste les attend. Les silences non plus. Le rubato me donne le sentiment d'être en déséquilibre constant. J'aime cependant le lyrisme, qui change des interprétations académiques telles que celle de Gustav Leonhardt, et le toucher précis et délicat, notamment dans les phrases rapides en arpèges. Ce clavecin a un timbre extraordinaire, remarquablement bien exprimé par l'instrumentiste. Il va falloir que je réécoute plus d'une fois pour mieux comprendre l'esprit de l'interprétation.
