So long as Shesterkin is still at net, you guys have a very realistic shot in this series, and I knew that after game 1. You're not prohibited from having an excellent goalie, and there is none holding the fort quite like Shesty. As a Cats fan, it's been extremely infuriating; though we're obviously still in the series with a 2-2 tie, I can't help but feel this is us being dealt what we gave the Canes last year in the Conference Finals, Bob serving as a brick wall in spite of Carolina's statistical advantages over us game after game. There was just no 4OT game to start the series. I'd be shocked if this doesn't go the distance to game 7. We'll see what happens at MSG.
As a Rangers fan, I’m not worried much, purely due to Shesterkin. As well as the depth scoring from the Rangers being able to usually put up a few goals a game. But if they win this series, I’ll be ecstatic as a fan of the team, but as a hockey fan in general I’ll feel kinda sick, seeing the team who is showing more effort and heart, and who is really overall more deserving, lose. Rangers have such an annoying formula for victory, trying to manage defensively as much as possible, lean on their goalie, then score 2-4 goals on the occasional rush chance. 90% of the time spent in their own zone, but they play this annoying game and squeeze out wins.
Floridas forecheck is starting to wear down the already shaky defense of NY. Still a great series though, the top 2 goalies in the NHL make it an entertaining watch
As a Canes fan yes that was brutal last year…Igor pretty much did the same thing to Carolina last series, I feel like the Canes actually played better in 2 of there losses, just couldn’t get the puck in the net.

Without their best players being their best players and miserable D-zone coverage, even Shesty won't be enough. They have been brutal for much of the 2nd and 3rd rounds, stealing wins when they were outplayed. Nobody lucks their way to a Stanley Cup.
It's by far the most frustrating thing seeing the Rangers get maybe 10 seconds of offensive zone pressure at a time. 10-15 minutes without a shot or shot attempt? Are the Rangers a CPU team in NHL 24?
They are holding very well. And Shesterkin is tremendous. But it is looking more and more like the Panthers are on a constant power play, where they are just not scoring that much.
Florida was better off getting the PP than the Penalty Shot in Overtime. The penalty shot, is one free shot, but the PP allows many scoring chances to be generated across the power play, making their PP much more dangerous.
I feel this to my core. As a Bolts fan, I've seen my team completely turn off their brain expecting elite goaltending to paper over terrible defense. That crap does NOT win Cups. Rangers need to take note and adjust or they are toast.

This series is exactly like the 2016 Stanley Cup final with San Jose and Pitsburg, the Sharks top 6 forwards and defence dissapeared that series so it was basically Martin Jones on crack vs a red hot Penguins team. The Rangers were my pick to win the cup but I think the series is already over unfortunately

The Panthers have been the better team all series, the Rangers just have amazing heart and never quit. The Panthers have dominated the puck possession and with the scoring chances this series.
The PK hasnt looked great, but it just feels like the officiating is way too one sided. The calls that go against feel very weak and you see Florida do it and nothing happens, especially the ending to regulation where two penalties end up saving Florida from a 2 on 1 that couldve won us the game and then of course barely a minute in a similar break goes for Florida and with no hesitation a hooking call is made. That being said the Rangers need to skate, they can beat Florida if they just put a 60 minute effort into the game. The first period was fantastic and we couldve strangled Florida if we continued to play like that, but the rest of the game it looked like they were skating in quick sand and completely forgot how to handle the puck and that just feeds Floridas game and it just snowballs because you just end up getting overworked and every shift ends up being survival. They're deeper than carolina and have a better goaltender and thats why the series is tied, but the rangers just need to flip the switch and i think we can beat Florida. They have the talent and the ability to beat Florida, but you have to execute and they just havent done that and it just feels like every other year where they have it for a couple games, but then the effort just disappears and it feels like they have no energy and desire to keep trying.
If you think the officiating is too one sided against the Rangers, then go look at how they got their first goal. 13 minutes left in the first. NY player was skating next to, then cuts in front of FLA player. Skating into and under his stick just to make it look like he was high sticked. Garbage. Manufactured theatrics to get a PP, and fist goal. One sided.....sure.
Take off your Rangers glasses and you can see that Rangers get away a lot of penalties. Just look at Trouba and you should see that he should be more in the box
Bitching about the officials is a loser’s lament. Yes, the officials have been inconsistent and generally horrible. I’m a Rangers fan and there is more than enough uncalled, dirty play - by both teams - to make the issue irrelevant. If they only missed the calls on one side, that’s an issue but I don’t see that. The Rangers seem to be back in one of those cycles where they just are not generating any offense. It happened a few times over the course of the season and it is definitely happening now. That’s the difference between winning in the playoffs or not. Your top players have to make things happen and that is simply not occurring. Zibanijed, Krieder, Panarin, have done nothing. Laffey, Trotchek and Goodrow are the only forwards that aren’t simply skating around each shift.
@@CharlieTWilbury well said. These are 2 physical teams, it make the WCF look like very polite, well mannered hockey. Lots more extra curricular aggressiveness by both teams in ECF. NY has difficulty with aggressive forecheck. Carolina and FLA's. Top offensive line spends almost whole shift in defensive zone, only able to dump in and change lines. There have been times in last 2 series that NY looked like they were playing 5 against 7. Shezerkstin has covered the difference so far, but FLA forecheck has been the dominant factor in each game. NY will either come up with an answer or face more of the same. Really looking forward to next 3 games, it's the level of hockey worth rewatching thanks to the DVR of the YT TV.
The Rangers averaged 7 shots a period. They have to start playing offense. They cant keep hoping to win allowing 35+ shots a game. Same Rangers really. Rely on the goaltender to win games (Richter/Lundqvist/Shesterkin).
I must admit that shesterkin is obviously the biggest reason of the rangers success however you can’t say that the Rangers should lose against panthers It’s a really tough and one of the best east conference final in a while

The thing about Florida is that they smother your goalie until he finally breaks. Taking nothing away from Igor. He has been spectacular and fun to watch. Swayman allowed 3 goals in the final 2 games combined and could not stop his team from being eliminated. If the Panthers cannot win the cup this year, IDK if they ever will.
im just not happy about the last 15 seconds of regulation. zibanejad and kakko were about to have a 2 on 1 break, but forsling holds/interferes with mika, spinning him out of the play, then on the same play, ekblad gets his stick on kakko's skate, tripping him and preventing him from getting a shot off. then, as time expires, trouba gives reinhart a shove, which i admit was late, so reinhart had a right to be angry, but he pretty much sucker punched trouba, or at least tried to. i get that the refs dont want to call things unless they have to because it might tip the game, but three potential calls in the waning seconds, youve got to at least make one of them. but lo and behold, a minute in, time that the rangers wouldve been on the pp, barkov gets hooked on a breakaway, somehow its called a pp and not a penalty shot, like he had a clear path to the net, wheeler was only anywhere near him because he was hooking. now look, im not trying to say that the rangers deserved to win here, since they got outplayed for 40 minutes in this one, but they didnt deserve to lose the way they did. if they get that late pp, dont score and florida still wins, i wouldnt be as pissed, and it probably wouldve happened, but the refs need to be better. some things you cant just swallow the whistle on
The other two maybe should've been called. I don't think anyone's gonna call anything if Trouba gets decked though unless it's really unbelievably egregious.

Puck luck can go either way. Of COURSE Shesty is keeping NY in this... he's their best player on the ice at all times. He is an elite goaltender. His job is to stop enough pucks to give NY a chance to win with their offense and for the most part he has done that. This series is far from over. We'll see what happens tonight.

Bitching about the officials is a loser’s lament. Yes, the officials have been inconsistent and generally horrible. I’m a Rangers fan and there is more than enough uncalled, dirty play - by both teams - to make the issue irrelevant. If they only missed the calls on one side, that’s an issue but I don’t see that. The Rangers seem to be back in one of those cycles where they just are not generating any offense. It happened a few times over the course of the season and it is definitely happening now. That’s the difference between winning in the playoffs or not. Your top players have to make things happen and that is simply not occurring. Zibanijed, Krieder, Panarin, have done nothing. Laffey, Trotchek and Goodrow are the only forwards that aren’t simply skating around each shift.

Lots more extra curricular aggressiveness by both teams in ECF.
NY has difficulty with aggressive forecheck. Carolina and FLA's. Top offensive line spends almost whole shift in defensive zone, only able to dump in and change lines. There have been times in last 2 series that NY looked like they were playing 5 against 7.
Shezerkstin has covered the difference so far, but FLA forecheck has been the dominant factor in each game.
NY will either come up with an answer or face more of the same.
Really looking forward to next 3 games, it's the level of hockey worth rewatching thanks to the DVR of the YT TV.

The Rangers averaged 7 shots a period. They have to start playing offense. They cant keep hoping to win allowing 35+ shots a game. Same Rangers really. Rely on the goaltender to win games (Richter/Lundqvist/Shesterkin).
I feel like Florida hasn't looked like they want it more, and that's why it's been close.
I must admit that shesterkin is obviously the biggest reason of the rangers success however you can’t say that the Rangers should lose against panthers

So, these series is turning out to be like the Boston series for FL, Swayman was the glue who kept Boston in the game as well as Igor is doing for New York. The thing about Florida is that they smother your goalie until he finally breaks. Taking nothing away from Igor. He has been spectacular and fun to watch. But as a goalie, there’s only so much you can do. Just ask Jeremy Swayman
Swayman allowed 3 goals in the final 2 games combined and could not stop his team from being eliminated. If the Panthers cannot win the cup this year, IDK if they ever will.

im just not happy about the last 15 seconds of regulation. zibanejad and kakko were about to have a 2 on 1 break, but forsling holds/interferes with mika, spinning him out of the play, then on the same play, ekblad gets his stick on kakko's skate, tripping him and preventing him from getting a shot off. then, as time expires, trouba gives reinhart a shove, which i admit was late, so reinhart had a right to be angry, but he pretty much sucker punched trouba, or at least tried to. i get that the refs dont want to call things unless they have to because it might tip the game, but three potential calls in the waning seconds, youve got to at least make one of them. but lo and behold, a minute in, time that the rangers wouldve been on the pp, barkov gets hooked on a breakaway, somehow its called a pp and not a penalty shot, like he had a clear path to the net, wheeler was only anywhere near him because he was hooking.
now look, im not trying to say that the rangers deserved to win here, since they got outplayed for 40 minutes in this one, but they didnt deserve to lose the way they did. if they get that late pp, dont score and florida still wins, i wouldnt be as pissed, and it probably wouldve happened, but the refs need to be better. some things you cant just swallow the whistle on
The other two maybe should've been called. I don't think anyone's gonna call anything if Trouba gets decked though unless it's really unbelievably egregious.

@@Mangos4uce calling the cross nasty is a bit of an overreaction, but it's better than a full on attempted punch. And this is playoff hockey, so calls are not going to be made, but when theres several in one play, especially when it breaks up a chance to score, you can't really swallow the whistle

The Rangers have played a few good periods, that’s it. They seem to think a one goal lead in the first is all they need. They are losing the battles on the boards. Star players are absent. PP not scoring and now the PK is giving up goals. Yes this series could have easily been over. The announcers said it. It seemed like the Rangers were playing for OT after they scored the tying goal. 0:01

Like Subban said... SOMETHING has to be said about a team that finds ways to win even when they are statistically being outplayed. Mikas bar down shot goes in and things could look very different. Puck luck can go either way. Of COURSE Shesty is keeping NY in this... he's their best player on the ice at all times. He is an elite goaltender. His job is to stop enough pucks to give NY a chance to win with their offense and for the most part he has done that. This series is far from over. We'll see what happens tonight.

i feel like youve made a video bashing the rangers after every single loss this postseason. Everbody knew this would be a long series and im happy with taking a split in florida. If zibanejad panarin or kreider get going they look great. Doesnt even have to be all of them. If just one of them get hot we are in a great spot.
