Great ! My first AMT kit was a 1960 Falcon. It was $1.50 . I have made models ever since , off and on . I did some decent models , but u are a Master Sir. I can understand what u do , how u do it , and your explanations are excellent. So glad I found u , keep going please. I am handicapped now and truly enjoy your work . I may attempt some more kits ,they are just too nice to pass on. Thanks again...so cool

Can't wait to get my hands on this kit! I've built the late 90s AMT Catalina in the past as a drag car and as a stock car. The original Polyglas Gasser kit from 1969 was a 1962 Pontiac Bonneville which used the same tooling from the original 1962 annual kit. Those original kits are real rare and pricey today.

Great Review! I just purchased this kit, and was a little concerned about the detail, or possible lack of. This one is plenty detailed! This kit in my opinion is as detailed as ALL the kits SHOULD be. I just don't like it when the Exhaust pipes, rear suspension, axle, and drive shaft are all molded into the frame. Furthermore I prefer that inner tub of the kit you have to assemble in pieces with the rear seats not being molded into the tub either. Again great review, and a sigh of relief. (I'm glad AMT currently has outlines of all the parts and parts trees on the back of the box so you know in advance)

I clearly remember the transparent portion of the steering wheel on my '64 nine passenger Catalina wagon, somehow seeing that bright metal bar in the wheel gave me pause thinking someday that could be in my chest! Even though the " softer " steering wheels also had that hard ominous looking bar I never gave them a second glance except to find the horn. Have not heard " what-naught ' in quite a while. Thanks for the memories, That's why I enjoy your reviews. Thanks again.

It was the Bonneville that had those odd looking 3 part wheels / brakes with the brakes made like a clutch - the "shoes" were inside a pancake module - most unusual indeed. All the other "Ponchos" from 61 - 64 had regular brakes and steel wheels with hubcaps. Another fine build. This time it's your interior detail that made this a true Pontiac.
    Thanks for sharing...

I like how you sorta put a story together behind how you put the kit together. It's rare to see a kit with a back-story these days. Now I'm gonna have to try and do the same thing with my builds. It would be nice for me to have a reason for why a did a certain thing a certain way beyond "it just looks cool."
I'm working on an AMT '09 'Vette right now that I was going to de-chrome the wheels on and do a metallic teal/green-candy base with lime green accents (wheels, side-mirrors, etc.) to give it more personality, and now I'm gonna have to go think up a back-story for it and re-think things lol. I've been looking at a couple of Aoshima's wheel 1/25 wheel kits for it, since as usual with Revell or AMT, the stock wheels that came with the kit were literally the worst looking ones available at the time, but I can't make my mind up on which one to grab. Having a back-story might help with that a bunch.
It seems to me that modern muscle cars are so much more difficult to make design choices on since they look so organic these days. I might just end up fabbing some different stock wheels on the 3d printer and picking one of those. I would have done so from the get-go, but the materials for that printer are not cheap.

Hi, I have been enjoying your channel for a while now, and really like your style of how to do this.
Your channel has greatly inspired me to begin my models. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your channel. I am about to get back into model building again, I was in my twenties the last time I built a plastic model - that was over 30 years ago 🤣. I have my grandfather's 66 Ford from Mobius, and a few others, including all the remake of the pirates of the Caribbean models.
I have a strange request. I picked up an AMT 1:25 Catalina 421SD kit from a small estate sale. Today, I just went through it to get it ready for degrease and noticed that the interior door panels are gone! Some pieces have been cut off the tree, seats and things, and no door panels. I was wondering since this kit you built a couple years ago had two sets of door panels. If you still have them, I would be happy to purchase either style you have left from the kit. Please let me know, I plan to make this a restoration - needed model with weathering, rust, and such as my first kit.

I agree its a great kit. Great detail all around. The one I just completed isn't the same as yours but its close. Only difficulty was the dashboard. It was hard for me to get done right. I did the seers in three shades of blue like the instructions suggested and photos have shown. If all AMT kits were this good I would be building more than Revell and others.

I've never met a kit I can't get together in a couple days.
BUT, if you hear me saying 'this kit is for the more seasoned builder' or 'I recommend this to those with more kits under their belt' that's my equivalent of saying it will take time and patience and is not made for beginners.
In a video coming up I use that phrase a lot, you'll see it on Feb 1st.

Those redline tires are ones like the premium ertyl whiteline tires in the 65 Pontiac GTO convertible/hardtop kit shows a gold car, the 64 Chevy Impala 3 in 1, and the mpc i think it was 66 Chevy II nova ss 3 n 1 car anyone remember the tires in those kits the only difference is that Catalina has redline ones, which would look pretty cool on those other kits as well, and the mpc Pontiac Blackbird has the same bfg ta tires I was talking about i wonder if that's where my dad got them i know that because I built the blackbird with the gold edition mpc exclusive wheels its a mid 80's kit but I built it the way it is supposed to be except the decals it didn't get any put on it the kit im talking about the wheels are the snowflakes the black molded body nose and hood and the ertyl rear tail panels i like how they did it better than the monogram version of the 78 Pontiac ta, and the moc kit im referring to has smoked grey glass

This AMT kit tooling dates from the early 1990s, the original Polyglas Gasser kit was the original 1962 annual kit tooling and was released in 1969.
AMT included it in a poll of suggested reissued kits in the 1980s but no one seemed to remember what it was.
The newer tool is far superior to the original.

Region won't matter. I'm sure it was just a packing mistake. Contact customer service and see if they can help get you a tire.

    Hey Chris...
Just a quick, off the wall, question...
I know you do excellent work on your quick 2 to 3 day builds, but...
In your opinion should bare metal foil be done before or after clear coating a paint job?

    • @hpiguy
      @hpiguy  6 років тому

I've gotten preorders from Tower a month before others do because they got a pallet in and sold out instantly on preorders and went back to out of stock status immediately. Same with the figures I collect.

    • @mikebreazeale2563

Well that's cool. But I thought I read something from the company that says it's not even been released yet. But what ever I guess.
