Hi likemyviolin, Thanks for the information I'll look into getting one. I think it would help me a lot. Sorry about my weird syntax/word choice on my first post. Dick Hyman rocks!! Jay
Is This Dwane Shin - it is isnt it -I used to bye his lessons through the mail cheers -I always wondered what hapeen to ya Mr Shin. good to see you again .
Mr. Hyman does not claim to be a master, he's just trying to teach what he knows, which to be honest is quite a lot. I wish we did have instructional videos from the "black people" he mentions in this video, but as far as I know they never made any, and also, some of these people were probably reluctant to directly teach white people their stuff, since, you know, it's distinctive and has a special quality.
Hi .Many thanks for this video on Dick hyman.Does anyone know where can i get an interview with this man if there is any chance..at all? Is he teaching or giving any master class to the public? thanks
Don't knock boogie-woogie. Good boogie with a groove is quite hard to do. I know because I can do it once in a while, and it takes a lot! The right hand part has to be absolutely tasteful, too. Mr. Hyman is quite tasteful here in my opinion. For boogie, I listen to the players with the best and most tasteful right hands, in my opinion, such as Jimmy Blythe, Albert Ammons, Lemuel Fowler, J. H. Shayne etc. etc. Jimmy Yancey was good too. Again this is just my opinion.
"Jew" "Dick Hyman" "Dick" "Hyman" ...etc If that's what you call him with his career and piano playing... I would be more than proud to have any of those names.
my tip : ignore the pitiful snide comments and enjoy this deeply talented and respectful man sharing his knowledge of a musical form.
Thank you for providing adequate sound volume. That other series of videos on Hyman's jazz history can barely be heard. Thanks.
Dick Hyman has been on my radio show many times. I have an interview with him here on UA-cam. He's a legend.

Talking about boogie is like dancing about architecture.

Hi Likemyviolin, Where did these come from ? Is there a 'set' available? This is one the best most helpful thing I've ever seen in my life.
