@@Moonbase3 Great point! That is another viable angle. Maybe a little from both columns. Starscream is such a good villain that it would be a waste to kill him off completely so soon...
Actually, I think someone or some people/group will find him still alive and use him as a source of weapons and tech, just as Megs is currently over in Cobra Commander and Cobra-la
The between Soundwave and Starscream is BRUTAL. I’m really excited to see how Carly’s arc plays out now that Starscream’s death has been “taken from her.”
starscream never dies that easily, hes either alive and hiding to plot his revenge or a ghost, either way i wanna see what he does after getting beat up by soundwave!
That’s what you get Starscream. Optimus seeing Sparkplug’s memories is really interesting on what will happen with him in the long run. I hope Dreadwing and Skyquake appears! Nooo, Kup (that can't be his head 😭), Ultra Magnus!
ngl I think this is going the "Transformers can sustain absolutely brutal, horrific injuries and still live" route with them; I doubt Huffer, Warpath, and especially Kup are gone for good tbh. But honestly, there's so many Transformers in G1 alone that it is completely feasible for them to just go full Eugenesis and just use random named characters as death fodder for the shock value.
I wasn't sure before but now I am.. Jorge Corona is the perfect replacement. His art is almost identical to DWJ... loved this issue. I really hope Ultra Magnus is alive 🤞🏻
I still like the idea I had where the remains of Jetfire and Skywarp get combined into one bot and we get geewonified tall, dark, teleporting Jet-warp with a walking stick who scans a Cobra Nightraven for an alt.
Absolutely loved this issue. The art is incredible and builds and expands upon what DWJ has shown. It's most definitely an exciting time to be a TF comics fan!
This universe really takes a lot of inspiration from the G1 cartoon the only difference is that it's a lot more violent. It's interesting to see the difference in approach in building a transformers universe between IDW and Skybound. In IDW the decepticons were under Megatron and they were a lot covert when it came to conquering slowly doing it through phases here the Decepticons were under Starscream who didn't really care about being seen by the humans and just wanted to destroy the Autobots which is why we see Decepticons killing humans a lot which is not something you usually see them do. It makes them look a lot more vicious. Soundwave becoming the leader makes a lot of sense and I am excited to see how his approach is different from Starscream.
As a longtime TF fan, seeing Soundwave clean Screamer's clock? Peak. Also my rule is always no body? Not dead. Yes we saw him tumble but we didn’t see Starscream boil in the lava and he's such a weasel hells probably be alive. Also a friend of mine pointed out that it's very interesting that it seems as though with Teletraan (and maybe other means) cybertronians are easily revivable. One of the themes seems to be Optimus and co. learning about the sanctity of life, soooo it's definitely possible they could bring back anyone who has died, it's more or less the idea that will they.
A nice slow down issue is always necessary for the audience to catch their breath. It’s always a great opportunity for world building and exposition and I love how it’s was handled here 👍Plus I totally called it! Sparkplug still exists inside the matrix, nailed it😎 Great vid bud keep em coming 👍👍
So one thing im missing is the mostly blank action backgrounds, i felt like they added more feel and room for emphasis than drawing the volcanoes behind the decepticons for example
They seem a lot less pronounced here than they have been in the previous issues, that's for sure. They're still here, but they don't seem to stand out as much and/or they blend into the color palette of the background scenery more than they used to. That must be a result of the change in artists...but a good observation nonetheless!
I'm certain Starscream's alive. Looking at Cover A of Destro #1, there is an unidentified giant robotic hand underneath Destro's throne. It wouldn't surprise me if he managed to abscond with Starscream's body and like Cobra Commander, is using retro-engineering the Cybertronian tech within to create the B.A.T.s and other tech for a future Cobra. SInce Cobra Commander is investigating the properties of Energon, Destro will end up making an allies with him due to the need of a power source that can thoroughly run the tech that Destro is exploring. Starscream might even be a willing participant because he has absolutely nowhere to go now that he's been ostracized from the Decepticons. Besides, what would rock more than the fated meeting and possible partnership of Starscream with Cobra Commander. Man, I'm getting goosebumps just thinking about the crazy ways this plotline could play out... Plus, although coincidental, I'm betting Duke will come across Starscream's damaged body within Destro's lair, which would bring his quest full circle. Last crazy observation in lieu of Destro #1; there is an appearance of a man in the preview pages that looks a lot like VENOM's Miles Mayhem from M.A.S.K. I'm not 100% that it is him, but it would make sense that he would run in the same circles as Destro. After the four "Codename: G.I. Joe" mini-series conclude, I wonder if a mini-series based on M.A.S.K. will be next? Great review, man! You are my first stop for reviews after an issue drops. Keep up the great work!
You know...that theory about Starscream being absconded by Destro makes a lot of sense. Duke does take place after a six month jump, and they'll have to acknowledge that at some point. This could be their way of doing so.
@SoulBroRyu First, thanks for the kind words - much appreciated! Second, I agree with @tomhur1 - I think that's a really solid theory, and one that I hadn't considered. That would be a mind-blowing twist if after all this time Duke has been looking for Starscream, and we the audience figure he's barking up the wrong tree...but then he actually finds him at MARS like he expected to! I'm also digging the idea of a Cobra/Starscream team up...that makes me think about how cool it would be if Cobra Commander/Starscream starts a war with Cobra-La, while Megatron (and the Decepticons) ally with Golobulus...so many possibilites...
YES how I’ve been looking forward to this! So a few things, this issue was still great, however, I do think killing off Kup was a horrible mistake. I don’t care for them killing Huffer or Warpath either (they don’t get the spotlight often and it would be nice to see them), but Kup is among the best characters in the whole franchise. It was a mistake when IDW killed him for that stupid crossover with the shit tier forgotten Hasbro property, it’s ESPECIALLY a mistake here. Two pages of Kup? That’s a huge waste. I didn’t even think Starscream was dead at all, though that’s problem more due to Screamer being the Decepticon equivalent to a cockroach. You never really quite get rid of him can you? Loved seeing Magnus in the flashback, I really hope that this arc is setting up an Elita One/Ultra Magnus rescue mission or something. Get those two off Cybertron and into the plot. Sidenote anyone else notice Elita has an Ion Blaster? All of that said, it was a good issue but I’m just starting to feel the waste of characters people have been tilting at. It’s not a dealbreaker by any means, but I now see where some are coming from. Fantastic video MB3!
I hear you, man. When I first opened the book, I was pleasantly surprised to see Huffer and Warpath, thinking that they'd get some time to shine, but naaaah. I agree with you about Kup, seems like a character with a lot of potential...but, as unlikely as it seems, I wonder if we've truly seen the last of him? Magnus is in extremely rough shape, but I'm not prepared to count him out yet...so maybe there's a chance that Kup could survive a blast to the head? It's really not looking good, though... Good catch with the ion blaster! I missed that.
Considering how Skyward is still "alive" combined with Starscream's G1 propensity to be a ghost I think it safe to say he going to bid his time and try and take Soundwave by surprise. Speaking of Soundwave, his fight with Starscream felt a lot like the fight Megatron had with Shockwave in the Marvel comics, Hell Soundwave leading the Cons was a thing that happened in the Marvel UK comics. I just noticed when you had an imager of her on the screen but Elita-1 looks like she is toting Optimus's blaster. Huffer and Warpath kitting killed makes a bit of scenes for Skybound, considering they killed Bumblebee in the first issues but Kup, he's an "86 character, that takes balls. As for Magnus and Jetfire, the former could be seen as early clinging to life/mutilated like Griffith from Berserk and the latter Jetfire was killed by the Dynobots during Secrets & Lies only to be rebuilt from the ground up by Shockwave with only Jetfire's brain module being recover from the original body so Jetfire could come back. Coming back online for Cybertronians is common place for their species Optimus is the running champ with Megatron 2nd place. Combined the previously stated with Skywarp current set up I could see Jetfire coming back online in this series. final notes on Carly and Spike handling of grief, Carly is clearly acting out of frustration and anger while Spike is kinda feels like he is numbed form the shock of everything, he was shout though the gut and comatose for a few issues he probably is readjusting himself mentally to the new status quo.
I think you're spot on in your assessment of Spike and Carly and how their handling their grief. And you raise some really good points about Transformers coming back from the dead. That may be the attitude and the approach that Skybound is taking here. The rules are always a little fuzzy in terms of what is fatal. I mean, even characters from the IDW run survived similar or worse injuries as the ones Kup sustains here. But, I guess we'll see...
Soundwave absolutely bodied Scream 😭😭😭😭😭 I’m really loving the characterization of the whole cast so far. I’m so excited to see where the Ultra Magnus plotline is going
Something is definitely gonna happen to Cliff and I’m not ready… I say this because they have been building up his character a lot these past issues but it’s not just that… Its got to do with the letters page. They say that in 30 days (Next issue) Cliff will die. Something else could happen though since they wouldn’t just spoil it in the letters right? He might not die but something will definitely happen… Anyways, I am very excited for next month as both the next issue and the free comic book day special will come out!
I haven't read these comics myself, so don't know what has already transpired (how OP lost his arm in particular), but is that Prime's gun that Elita is using here? It sure looks like his rifle.
Also, I do wonder, has Hot Rod been shown/killed off yet? I'm seeing a trend of the inverse of the 86 movie, in that the new bots introduced there are getting killed off..other than Arcee, so far.
It'd be cool if in this universe just like in dreamwave Ultra Magnus is just wearing armor and underneath is a white optimus prime. But we find out Shockwave was experimenting on him all this time so when we see him again he's black, and goes by Nemesis.
I bet we'll find out later on that the skybound Starscream somehow survived but is badly damaged. Due to him getting his ass whooped by Soundwave, what do you guys think?
Me too. With Destro needing more Energon to power his new weapons and BAT Troopers, he will most likely find Starscream in a weakened state and take him in to get more ENERGON as well as more weapons that can be developed, based on Cybertronian physiology
Was sad to lose DWJ on art but who took over was a subtle choice it also meant we didn’t have to wait between acts like in VR, I’d recommend Corona other image books with Scottie Young. Alita -1 carrying an Ion Cannon is that a reference to the relationship with Optimus in other Transformers media?
Yeah, that's true, we just got to roll right into issue 7 without a hiatus! And you know, that's an interesting thought about the ion cannon - I wonder if it was a token given to one of them or if it's just like the shotgun that seemed to be shared by Blaster and Jazz - maybe just a common type of weapon that multiple characters use?
Maybe Optimus will use Jetfire's parts to build himself a jetpack upgrade, similarly to what he did in Revenge of the Fallen. It's possible that Starscream is dead but will come back to life later. Maybe he'll have an immortal spark just like in the G1 continuity.
I have a theory. What if the autobot Elita-1 rescued wasn't Ultra Magnus, but Optimus Prime. Magnus took Optimus's place to keep the autobot's morale up.
I really doubt we've seen the last of Starscream. They've built him up too much over the first six issues, and he still has unresolved business with Carly, Duke, and possibly Megatron. Or maybe I just hope so because this issue feels like it's continuing my problem of "Burning through characters too quickly." I mean Huffer? sure, minor guy who's not really important, Warpath? A shame considering how fun he can be but I get it, but Kup?! Freaking Kup? One of the most iconic characters in the franchise!? We're gonna kill HIM off?! That's probably the death that bothers me the most because of how wasted it is. Feels like cheap shock value. There's still a lot to like in this issue, but Skybound really needs to chill out on the character deaths soon, especially if they intend to go the distance with this universe. I know I should probably have more to say, but honestly Kup's death and Starscreams ambiguous fate really overshadowed everything else else in the issue for me. Maybe I'm just biased because I'm always had a fondness for Kup and I was getting really invested in the Duke and Carly stuff.
Yeah, good point about Starscream. Seems like he's gotta come back at some point. And I hear ya about Kup. I always like it in general when minor characters are given more prominent roles (which is why I was initially so pleased to see Huffer), but a heavy hitter like Kup is definitely surprising. I'm starting to wonder if he might be back, though. I could be totally wrong, but I feel like Shockwave is up to something, based on the state of Magnus and the cover to issue 9...whether or not that means we get Kup back, I don't know, but it seems a little suspicious.
I really hope they didn’t already kill starscream this early. I’m hoping he survived and is going to cook up one of his classic cunning schemes, to try and get back at soundwave at some point in the future.
So im only half way through the video, and i may be wrong. I think jetfire dies after crashing into the mountainside, haven't re read them recently. I think the jet parts in the ark belong to someone else. Perhaps an ariel bot or skylynx. Maybe a far reach, and obscure character but since we're seeing springer in vr it might even be broadside. My broadside argument is also based off the fact that the decepticons seem to be fighting at sea in the issue 8 teaser, so the autobots would need a boat to strike back.
Seeing Broadside would be cool, for sure, and it's certainly possible that Optimus will use the parts to bring a new character online, but it's definitely Jetfire's body being shown on the last page of issue 7. As for how he died, we can thank Starscream for that. :)
I wonder how Carly will react when she finds out that Starscream's dead. Cause like he’s gone but her appearance in this issue makes it clear she wanted to be the one to kill him but now that’s been taken from her by Soundwave. She might feel she'll never get true closure.
Thanks! 😁 And that would definitely be a surprising twist for Skywarp, but who knows! It seems like they've got plans for both him and Thundercracker, though, judging by the preview for next issue.
Let’s face it this is a merciful beat down Starscream has received than the beatings he has received at the hands of Megatron. It wouldn’t surprise me if Starscream some how survives and makes a comeback.
It's the Combaticons. And that's gotta be Ultra Magnus, who in fact is not dead. I hope Johnson is going to be alternating arcs, not that Jorge Corona is a step back or anything.
@@Moonbase3 I feel like they might be messing with their own Momentum switching up so soon, although I know DWJ has other stuff he wants to work on. I dunno, you get a gig like this you gotta commit.
Yeah, I hear ya. I'd like to see a long run from him, and I hope he sticks around for a bit...but I can totally understand wanting to work on and prioritize your creator-owned stuff as well.
I'm not a huge fan of all the deaths. Like sure it's fine to kill some characters but every issue someone died and some it feels like it's for shock value. Like Kup and warpath just dying with no real character or chance to shine just felt like it's for shock value
I can see where you're coming from, for sure. They're definitely not being very shy about killing off characters, I wouldn't doubt that part of that is to get people talking. But I also think DWJ is a big fan of the animated movie, so he might be trying to replicate a similar vibe with similar stakes - for better or worse.
@@Moonbase3 Yeah which is understandable. But for me, if you could replace kup or Warpath with a nameless autobot would it make any difference emotionally.
Yeah, I agree with you - I think building up the characters before killing them off makes that death more impactful. It seems like Skybound and/or DWJ is not into creating new Transformers characters and is just drawing from the existing roster. I wonder if that will change eventually...
Interesting theory, I like it! I just assumed he was a new character, but it is interesting that they showed a photo of his family that showed two boys as young children...
@Moonbase3 I figured it was a new character. Plus in all the other media, we only ever meet Spike, Sparkplug, Carly, and Daniel. The Bayverse did something different in us meeting his mother and Marvel gave us Buster Witwicky, but those two are outliers so far
Not sure why I said "new character" - of course he would be a new character, lol! I meant that I didn't think he was connected to any existing characters...but now that you've made the suggestion, I'm really considering the possibility there's a connection to the Witwickys! That's a good theory!
I wonder if theyre going to use the whole thing about starscream having an indestructible spark. If not its bold to let go one of the more dangerous characters. Just don't go killing my boi thundercracker and we're good
Woohoo. More characters killed off before they even get a chance to develop. Whoopee. Starscream's character made into a psycho instead of any level of depth he's had before. Feels like a total waste of character
I'm willing to bet that Starscreem is either alive enough to hide and appear later, or go ghost.
I've been wondering if they'd do the ghost thing...
@@Moonbase3 Great point! That is another viable angle. Maybe a little from both columns. Starscream is such a good villain that it would be a waste to kill him off completely so soon...
Only if skybound is using spark mutations
Actually, I think someone or some people/group will find him still alive and use him as a source of weapons and tech, just as Megs is currently over in Cobra Commander and Cobra-la
I agree, Starscream is the cockroach in the continuity. I hated his guts in the just a few clips of G1 cartoon and this was amplified in this comic
Scary soundwave is best soundwave. Great seeing him give starscream what he deserves, and refreshing its not from Megatron or the autobots this time
I'm really looking forward to seeing what Soundwave's reign looks like. So happy he's taking over!
The thing that stands out to me is that Optimus now has Sparkplug's memories

Also, I do wonder, has Hot Rod been shown/killed off yet? I'm seeing a trend of the inverse of the 86 movie, in that the new bots introduced there are getting killed off..other than Arcee, so far.
We haven't seen Hot Rod yet...but he's on an alternate cover for the Energon Universe 2024 Special, so maybe soon!
It'd be cool if in this universe just like in dreamwave Ultra Magnus is just wearing armor and underneath is a white optimus prime. But we find out Shockwave was experimenting on him all this time so when we see him again he's black, and goes by Nemesis.
That would be cool!! I hadn't thought about that!
I also felt the flashback scene art reminded me of the marvel books. Likely because of the posing.
I bet we'll find out later on that the skybound Starscream somehow survived but is badly damaged. Due to him getting his ass whooped by Soundwave, what do you guys think?
I think we could see him return as a ghost.
My bet is that starscream will be pick up by Cobra and used by them like in the Devil’s Due continuity
I definitely think it's possible we see Starscream again.
Me too. With Destro needing more Energon to power his new weapons and BAT Troopers, he will most likely find Starscream in a weakened state and take him in to get more ENERGON as well as more weapons that can be developed, based on Cybertronian physiology
Ohh, that's what the baby thing was about. I was confused.
Great information. Thank you.
Thank you, I appreciate it!
So far the art has been pretty good and the writing has been fantastic. I only hope that Skybound can keep this up after this arc.
I'm hoping so as well!
Did Elita-1 strike a pose like one of Spider-Man's in the 7th issue's cover?
You know...she did! Nice catch, I wouldn't have made that connection!
@@Moonbase3 Thank you. I've been to Spider-Man skit since I was a kid.
Soundwave bush Starscream
Maybe Optimus will use Jetfire's parts to build himself a jetpack upgrade, similarly to what he did in Revenge of the Fallen.
It's possible that Starscream is dead but will come back to life later. Maybe he'll have an immortal spark just like in the G1 continuity.
Dude, good thinking on the Jetfire thing! That hadn't occurred to me.
Thats the vibe I got too from that scene you mentioned
I have a theory. What if the autobot Elita-1 rescued wasn't Ultra Magnus, but Optimus Prime. Magnus took Optimus's place to keep the autobot's morale up.
That would be a very surprising twist!!!
@@Moonbase3 Thanks! I'm expecting to be wrong though.
I really doubt we've seen the last of Starscream. They've built him up too much over the first six issues, and he still has unresolved business with Carly, Duke, and possibly Megatron.
Or maybe I just hope so because this issue feels like it's continuing my problem of "Burning through characters too quickly."
I mean Huffer? sure, minor guy who's not really important, Warpath?
DWJ said he only watched the 86' movie, which is where he is getting all this kill-happy stuff into this continuity
I really hope they didn’t already kill starscream this early. I’m hoping he survived and is going to cook up one of his classic cunning schemes, to try and get back at soundwave at some point in the future.
Same here...he seems like too much of a major character to be gone already, right!?
I'm curious where they're going with the Carly stuff...it definitely feels like they've got something in mind!
@@Moonbase3 I’m also excited to see the Dinobots!
Heck yes! Hopefully sooner rather than later!
Imagine how mess up she be if it turns out Starscream comes back as a ghost
Thanks! 😁 And that would definitely be a surprising twist for Skywarp, but who knows! It seems like they've got plans for both him and Thundercracker, though, judging by the preview for next issue.
I really enjoy this as a whote, art and story.
Nice! Same here.
@ 7:42 No, the universe is shrinking as the corpses pile up. Fan favorite characters are flash backed, only to learn they’re dead. ☠️😡
🤣 Fair point!!
Something I just noticed. Why does Elita have a version of Prime’s blaster
Great question!
Maybe in this universe the ion blaster is a mass produced weapon.
@@saldzbob9972 Could be!
Let’s face it this is a merciful beat down Starscream has received than the beatings he has received at the hands of Megatron. It wouldn’t surprise me if Starscream some how survives and makes a comeback.
Very possible!
@@Moonbase3
👍 it wouldn’t surprise seeing how much damage he’s received in the past he’s like a cockroach hard to kill.
It's the Combaticons. And that's gotta be Ultra Magnus, who in fact is not dead. I hope Johnson is going to be alternating arcs, not that Jorge Corona is a step back or anything.
I wonder if that's the plan. I thought I heard/saw somewhere that DWJ might only go up to 12 issues with Transformers, but I guess we'll see.
I don’t believe Starscreams is dead. I believe CC will find him and rebuild him.
That would be cool!
Im wondering who the admiral is. Maybe Spike's grandfather?
Could Bumblebee still be able to be revived, or is he just outright dead? (😢)
Good question! One that's unclear at the moment...I think we'll see him again someday, but I imagine he's going to be out of the picture for a while.
@@Moonbase3
If he does, he’ll probably be wearing a mask. Just like his original toy.
@@justanormaldilo.249 I would be into that!
Dadimus prime😂😂
🤣
Thanks
It was a good one! :)
I wonder if theyre going to use the whole thing about starscream having an indestructible spark. If not its bold to let go one of the more dangerous characters. Just don't go killing my boi thundercracker and we're good
I agree, it would be bold...I guess we'll see what they do.
Starscream is about to pull a Palpatine
😂
Kup and Huffer? Noooooo
And Warpath. Possibly Ultra magnus as well
Please remember:
It is in fact credo that Starscream's spark is indestructible. Hence, the ghost. Just saying.
😊😊
Yeah no soundwave did not win any battles against the autobots
Not yet - we'll see how the dude does soon enough!

🤣
@@Moonbase3 need to get that engagement up for the algorithm. You need more viewers
I appreciate it! :)
Woohoo. More characters killed off before they even get a chance to develop. Whoopee. Starscream's character made into a psycho instead of any level of depth he's had before. Feels like a total waste of character
Spoilers: that aircraft carrier gets attacked and it's human crew all get massacred by Sound wave next issue
I just saw that preview last night lol
@@Moonbase3 so that answers your question on Soundwave's leadership?
Definitely gives me a better Idea of what to expect! :)
This is starting to turn off to be like transformers the movie when you kill off starscream Megatron and Optimus prime the movie really sucked
