Optimus Prime Corrupted (Skybound Transformers #15)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 7 лют 2025
- Issue 15 of Skybound's Transformers series takes us fully back to the storylines unfolding in the present day. Providing plenty of great character moments and killer art by returning artist Jorge Corona, there is an awful lot to discuss for what appears to be a "slow" issue...

This issue is working overtime to not only setup the next big battle, but also to pick back up from where we left things in Issue 12. Yet again, another fantastic issue for the series.
YES
I personally believe that it’s a combination of Megatron’s rage with Sparkplug’s protective instincts for his son that makes this rage mode Optimus goes in. Since Optimus has Sparkplug’s fatherly instincts and it’s become amplified with Megatron’s arm which basically twisting these visions to look very disturbing.
I don't know how much time DWJ can devote to Sparky (my guess is not much, since there's so much other stuff going on), but in addition to Sparky's protectiveness, he definitely had PTSD from war, which was briefly touched on in the first arc, so I'm wondering if any of those lingering PTSD thoughts are seeping into Optimus (in addition to Megatron's influence).
Definitely some good things to ponder in this thread from both of you...
Optimus Prime 'hulking out' is something I thought I'd never see. Can't wait to see how Issue 16 is!
Maybe. Or it could be Megatron's arm making him do this, just like what he did to Starscream
Yeah I really like how thundercracker seems to have this sense of honor, and is barely clinging on to any sort of allegiance or loyalty to the decepticon cause, as his various leaders continue to violate his code of ethics and commit war crimes
Even Astrotrain doesn't relish harming humans.
@@SJHFotohis IDW self was, though (in AHM)
@@MatthewLoh-ru1mw What is AHM?
@SJHFoto All Hail Megatron, where the Decepticons lay waste to Earth and kill a LOT of humans, while the Autobots were defeated and exiled to a dead Cybertron
@@MatthewLoh-ru1mw I bypassed the IDW run. I still have my Marvel US & UK comics from the 80s, and I LOVED Dreamwave, but IDW really bothered me
I think Megatron’s arm is definitely influencing Optimus, I didn’t even notice how Megatron’s arm was fisted when Optimus hugged Arcee, so I definitely think that’s a solid implication! Along with everything else said in the video lol
I think while Optimus is being influenced by Megatron's arm, it's more akin to bringing out his older self-- a version of optimus that isn't as wise or gentle or understanding as he was at the start of the series.
It is, perhaps, Megatron going "this is what you are. Put on your facade all you want, you are no different than anyone else, and you are as desperate as anyone else".
We are constantly seeing how the war and resource crisis has forced the cybertronian people- even autobots like Bluestreak- to unspeakable acts for the purposes of survival. Megatron says he is the leader of the "true way, the only way", and I think this is what he means by that-- this is what peace through tyranny really means: ruling over the rubble, no matter the cost.
That's an interesting idea! I'm hoping we get some flashbacks or some more specific details about what Optimus used to be like. I feel like that might be a piece of the puzzle that we're still missing with this whole thing...
It's megatron's arm corrupting prime right?? Like they've already showed us megatron has the power to influence people with his mind like the flashbacks of starscream, and he also has the power to control his arms independently, telepathically, that's where you're going right? I haven't finished watching this yet I just clicked immediately, just happened to be looking at the phone as soon as it come down the screen on my notification
No, it’s a result of Sparkplug entering the Matrix
They haven't said for certain yet-I think Sparkplug's enterring the Matrix may have something to do with it, but the blind violence screams Megatron to me, not Sparkplug
Yes, that's what it's heavily implied
@@gamerofcomics492even so, it shouldn't cause such dark behaviour
@@SJHFotoexactly. This is Megatron's personality, not Sparkplug
Yup Optimus getting that Liquid Snake treatment with the Arm
I fully expect Megatron ripping the arm back
If he can find them all while still being BLIND
My money is still on Megatron’s arm causing these episodes within Optimus.
Me too
I have no doubt that Bluestreak used to be exactly like his G1 counterpart at the beginning of the war but he changed overtime because of said war, I also think the corruption happening to Optimus might eventually turn him into Nemesis Prime
Given how much DWJ has stated he loves the character of Optimus Prime, I'm guessing he won't push him that far over the edge, but it's going to be intense seeing how far he's going to push him.
It would be cool to finally see Nemesis in a comicbook, but as a seperate character of course.
I hope not
I think Bluestreak's original Budiansky bio or something early in the Marvel comics stated he was a sole survivor of a city being wiped out by the Decepticons early in the war. That background could easily tie into this Bluestreak not being a happy part of Optimus' Ark crew ala the cartoon.
@itsahostiletakeover I know. And this is DWJ's way of re-working said backstory for this iteration
Ok Optimus is slowly turning into Dark Raiden. That arm must go!
Once Optimus inevitably goes off the deep end I have a feeling that he’s gonna only be stop either through Spike or Megatron’s involvement. My reasonings being that Spike has been the centre of Prime’s visions so far meanwhile Megatron is the only bot besides the Combiners who can defeat Optimus and the idea of him resurfacing to throw down with Prime again would be cool.
I think there's a good chance that Spike is going to be critical to whatever's going to happen.
It’s the arm that’s changing him.
“IDW Prowl is the coldest Autobot ever”
Skybound Bluestreak responds: “Hold my beer” lol awesome 👍
Spot on! 😂
Love the video.
But what I will say about Trailbreaker, is that I think he survived.
Remember his special ability is generating force fields...so... Maybe?
I agree. One of the covers even shows Trailbreaker in his forcefield
I hope you two are right. I love Trailbreaker and would love to see him as part of the cast!
Just a masterfully crafted issue. Catches us up after a break and propels the story in multiple directions. Similarly to what Void Rivals has been doing for a few issues, dedicates a few pages to each storyline while still feeling like a complete issue for one story. As soon as I finished this issue I reread it again & agree…it only got better.
100%! I still need to catch up on your last couple of videos, but I'm looking forward to hearing the rest of your thoughts on this issue with Bagged & Boarded!
@@Moonbase3I think you’ll be amused by the bold statements I make in regards to the fate of a certain bot. I may be eating crow next month but we shall see!
Finally. Was waiting for you to review this issue. And this issue was great, what with Prime getting increasingly corrupted possibly by Megatron's cannon arm, a slight remix of all hail Megatron with the massacre and destruction of a human, and a Decepticon civil war ala Starscream's Brigade
It was an excellent issue!
@Moonbase3 agreed
Hopefully, the rest of the Autobots get revived in future issues
I'm also hoping it's not the last we've seen of Jetfire.
Moonbase. Fantastic information as always. The "human " side of the transformers is truly on display. The war seems to be changing major characters on both sides. Cliffjumper is becoming a favorite of mine. His sadness regarding his teammates hits hard. I am beyond curious about what is happening to Optimus Prime. As always, looking forward to the return of Megatron. Will he lead the Decepticons? Can't wait to find out. Merry Christmas to all! Thank you for the wonderful video.
Thanks, and Merry Christmas to you as well! And I agree with you, Cliffjumper is a standout character in this series, and the segment with him on Cybertron is very impactful.
I have a lot to say about this issue, one of the things is that Spike isn't in a wheelchair anymore, he's in crutches! And I was really excided cause he's been stuck in that wheelchair for like several issues, so I think it's really good to see him take another step into recovery into being able to walk normaly again 👍
I was happy to see that too! It did make me wish that there could have been a few panels maybe touching on how he was able to go from being confined to a wheelchair to now walking on crutches, but either way, it's good to see a recovery from him!
@seanmccarthy8755 yo same, maybe they'll touch on that next issue... no wait the combinors are going to have a battle. maybe they'll somehow touch on that?
Overall, I'm guessing it's going to come down to a struggle between Sparky and Megatron for Optimus' soul in the next 1.5 arcs. That said, Optimus Prime will still have some agency - it's not like he's at the mercy of either.
I kind of see Optimus' Megatron arm like the corrupting abilities of other fictional fare, like the Elder Wand in the Harry Potter series or the 'one ring' in the Lord of the Ring trilogy. Optimus and the Autobots are sorely down in numbers, especially with Cliffjumper blown to Cybertron, and Arcee and Beachcomber off trying to find Ultra Magnus. Even before this, the Autobots' numbers were down, and Prime was desperate to even the odds. Hence, Megatron's arm, which gave them a bit of of an advantage, though they are still very much backed up against the wall. Given DWJ's tendency to tackle big themes, I'm guessing he's going with the "absolute power corrupts absolutely" story theme, showing that Optimus Prime is not immune to that type of corruption.
It really does feel like DWJ is working towards a bigger point here, and I think your idea is quite plausible!
Nah, you not off about that arm, that arm and the matrix dreams are both playing a part
It’s a battle between Sparky vs Megatron within Optimus’ soul
Man, poor Ramjet. First, he gets killed off by Megatron in IDW near the start of the continuity, then he only shows up once in the 2nd continuity, and now he dies instantly in Skybound's version. When is the poor con gonna get a break?
Nice to see Warpath alive. I remember Johnson mentioning in a podcast he regretted killing off Huffer, Kup, and Warpath so quickly, so retconning Warpath survived was probably a bit of a compromise.
I'm not happy to see Beachcomber still in his anti-fighting stance. I wonder if we're setting up an arc for him about him recognizing that if you want peace, you have to be prepared to fight those who would disrupt that peace.
Bruticus is here, and it's SO AWESOME. I get the feeling Johnson has been biding his time to bring in the Combaticons on full blast, and it's finally time to see my favorite combiner team in action.
I hope Trailbreaker's not dead. I doubt it because I get the sense Johnson is slowly realizing he shouldn't be so kill happy (I saw in the letter's page he sort of acknowledged killing Ratchet was a mistake), but then again... the aforementioned Ramjet...
I really can't wait to see more of Bruticus...
Do you happen to remember which podcast that was? I've seen a few comments referencing it now, and I think I must have missed it. I think if TB is alive, then maybe we are seeing some change regarding the quick character deaths...although, yeah, Ramjet kinda suggests the opposite...
@@Moonbase3 It was the Triple Takeover podcast. It came out a couple of months ago.
I listened to that one...my memory isn't what it used to be, I guess. 😂
2:33 same here man, same! :) Which is a little weird, because i have no childhood connection to the character at all (no fiction, no toy, nothing). I started liking Bluestreak just a couple of years ago and in my fanfiction he is the guy, who always cracks jokes and talks non stop. This is his coping mechanism to fight with his ptsd on an after war Cybertron. And Tracks is the one, who becomes Rambo (and doesn't want to get rid of his personal arsenal), even after the Decepticons are seemingly gone.
When I was a kid, I was more of a Prowl fan, but as I got older, I came to appreciate Bluestreak more and more. And your fanfic sounds interesting! I like that Tracks is getting some love!
@@Moonbase3 well thank you! I hope we will see Tracks someday in the Energon universe (his fight with the Predacons in IDW was pretty cool), but right now I just hope my bot Cliffjumper won't get any trouble on Cybertron. Fingers crossed.
I liked Howard two parter but having Corona back is so good. We are seeing splinters in both sides of the war and I’m all for it. All you need to add a certain one arrived tyrant and all chaos shall reign.
Things are going to get so wild when Megatron is fully back...
Megatron’s arm is not what’s affecting Optimus’s psyche, it’s happening because Sparkplug interfaced with the Matrix of Leadership which is linked to Optimus’s mind and body
You may be right. I'm leaning towards a mix of both with a dash of something totally unexpected.
It;s the arm, man. He literally has a part of the guy who can actually control people and corrupted Ultchar.
Right!? It's got to at least be part of what's going on...
You know sometimes you got to wonder is blue streak colourblind
🤣
I feel like it could be a mixture of things. All I know is that I hope optimus doesn't get too corrupted. I won't want another tlk scenario
True, especially after DWJ's phenomenal take on Optimus in the first six issues.
I'm hoping it won't go THAT far...
Maybe when Optimus hugs Arcee he didn't want to toch Arcee with Megatron's hand. I definetly would not like that if I were in Arcee's place. Touch of a cold blood killer's hand. No thank you. Even if it is currently attached to Optimus.
So prime has foreign things in him that are causing him to act up, thats basically what happened to him in K players.
God I hate that I can draw parallel between the two
Prime's colours almost look like Shattered Glass here.. I wonder ...
I also like its no more 100% robots in disguise. All Cybertronians are weapons and shockwave showed that after pulling up on DC, i like that human weapons leave scratch at max
yeah after a piece of cybertron fell into the ocean and ESPECIALLY the razing of Tacoma means theres no more disguise for any cybertronians
KABOOM! Alright, I'm still in the game!
🤣 🔥🔥🔥🎉🎉🎉
He is fighting the toughest battle any optimus has fought while being the most just optimus ever. Also megatron or something is controlling his visions are cyber demonic like its unicorn. Also thoughts on megatron with optimus arm 😂
Megatron with an Optimus arm would be hilarious! 🤣
Optimus Prime Become Nemesis Prime
Might happen, who knows!
The creation martix
I don't like how the comic is making (some) of the Autobots into almost bad guys. The clear cut distinction between good and evil is what I grew up with with my Transformers. If anything, repentance is a factor they should play on. I look forward to seeing Thundercracker's increasing dissatisfaction with the Decepticons evil ways. Even Soundwave's evil (he is more of a means to an end bot, unlike the wild pyschos like Starscream who clearly enjoys destruction and chaos. I also think that once he learns that the Autobots are not responsible for Skywarp's disfigurement, he will join the good guys. I like the touching moment of Arcee and Optimus' moment, and can also understand Beachcomber's refusal to take up arms
I wonder about Thundercracker joining the Autobots...there's a part of me that feels like it's unlikely, but there's another part that thinks it could happen. It would be a very surprising twist. Though, if it happens, it might not last long...can't see any of the Decepticons not going all out to kill Thundercracker if he defects.
@@Moonbase3 I actually think that may be a part of it. Skywarp and he might join up
Warpath survived i tought It died in episode One.
He made it! Somehow.
Not prowl?
It's surprising that DWJ went with Bluestreak over Prowl, but I love it. Prowl was a fave when I was a kid. Really still like him, but Bluestreak started to appeal to me more in my teen years, and my appreciation for his deco and design has only grown.
"Optimus Prime corrupted" .
Yeah, hate to tell ya but there was a fusion canon sized warning sign about him getting corrupted , right at the point where he started using Megatron's arm .
I guess Sky bound had to spell it out .
I think I hate this universe. IDW was better.
Fair enough. What about it is rubbing you the wrong way?
