Hi guys sorry to hear Dennis fell he is so lucky nothing broken just scratches that it was not into the road since I had my knees replaced I have fell a couple of times and I cannot get up without assistance as they say you learn by your mistakes so you have to really watch where you walking I’m am 76 almost same age as Dennis and unfortunately the Philippines has lots of uneven surfaces stay safe go carefully that is why we cannot do video blogs need to watch where we are walking cheers Gerry

Dennis - you’ll feel it a little more in a day or so - BUT, its really good that you’ve been doing resistance exercise with weights - it most likely helped you minimize the effects of a fall. Keep up the good work!

Quite a fall but easily done when there are no street lights and uneven concrete, glad you are okay Dennis. You did what any good neighbour would do if they saw high flames! So Marissa stop panicking Dennis is perfectly capable to open gates, but next time take a torch or wear a headlight! Ming likes chicken and fish, but clearly loves his Whiskers. Don't forget to pop into a pet store or vet practice for the deworming tablets.

Dennis did what a good neighbor should do, check on the fire across the room. Yes dark and raining hard which doesn't help walking at anytime. Dennis you are a good man and shows this by what you did. Happy you did not hurt yourself seriously. Both of there be careful in everything you do and never let yourself be caught where help. Sorry to hear that Dennis unfortunately had a fall😮, thank goodness he wasn’t severely hurt, just bruises and scrapes. I think the best thing that you should have done was to take him to urgent care to have him check to be in the safe side especially if he injured his head because you never know it would have been a concussion 🤕. As they say, "no good deed goes unpunished". I'm sure you know Dennis, it only takes about an inch difference from a level walking surface to throw yourself off balance enough to either trip by stubbing your footwear toe area on a slightly higher surface, or to unknowingly step slightly lower from a level surface and take a tumble. The latter always causes the more serious of injuries, because the falling down has more force on impact than tripping going upward. The brain gets fooled when unknowingly stepping downward from a level surface. Your brain expects the level surface to be the same, and when it is lower, your brain doesn't react quick enough to compensate for that unknown step downward and humans then fall in the direction of the pitch downward, as the lead knee buckles. Your falls pitch downward was between 5" to 10", enough to cause more serious injuries (fractured wrists, fingers, clavicles, ribs, spine, hips, knees, ankles, eye orbit bones, cheek and jaw bones, as well as receiving a concussion, abrasions, puctures, bilateral pneumothorax (collapsed lungs), hematoma and potential brain blood vessel bleeds.) Remember Fidel Castro did that face plant at a school graduation ceremony stage on a 4 inch stepdown after walking away from the speaking podium and walking 10 feet before the change to a 4 inch lower elevation. He ended up fracturing his left knee and right arm and that was a main contributor to his health failing soon after. I have treated many patients who have fallen and it typically leads to a cascading effect of other health issues. It appears you will be fine, and because of your weight lifting workout, which keeps muscle tone and strength, as well as your bone matrix density denser, helped you avoid fractures and muscle tissue damage. So keep up the exercise and do some stretching to stay limber. Glad you're ok.
Hi Marissa and Dennis. Sorry to hear that Dennis fell in the road. It would nice if he get checked out. It happened to my husband few months ago. He went back to work and his boss sent him home to go to AE to be checked out and he suffered from concussion. He was prescribed medication for dizziness and asked to rest for 2 weeks. So glad you are fine. All falls are due to the circumstances. Like you said; the blinding lights in your eyes during a heavy rainstorm. You probably had slippery shoes too thanks to the rain. Then the drop off of the road. Anyone would fall under those conditions.

Dennis, buddy we are no longer spring chicken. I’m only 70 yo and in my young days I’m a paratrooper with 101st Airborne Division. Now, I pay someone that requires using a ladder above 6ft.

Dennis, You're so lucky that it was nothing serious. However, since you hit your head on a rock (I am not a medical expert) it might be a good idea to have a doctor check that just as a precaution? Just a suggestion.

Pls have his head checked for any brain injuries, usually symptoms don’t show until 1-2 wks after the incident. Monitor for increasing headaches/ dizziness, nausea/vomiting, lethargy etc
Seems like even with perfect weather that someone will fall off that messed up sidewalk and get hurt😮
The local government really needs to fix the road properly.

I'm glad Dennis is ok. Just be careful of concussions. Also some towns in the Philippines do not allow open burning especially trash. Although corn husk is not really trash. I guess they're concerned about air pollution and all sorts of respiratory ailments.

That's one of the things that I haven't gotten used to in the Philippines, pot holes, bumps, dips, gravel and drop offs on the roads and sidewalks if there is one....I am glad that you are OK Dennis

Dennis is a big guy and appears to be in good shape physically and is probably just fine, but keep an eye on him none the less. I'm glad he is doing well. Marissa you must have been horribly panicked seeing him down on the side of the road. Hang in there, he's a strong man.
