I'm totally looking forward to the next vampire story by Jay Kristoff and the next one by James Islington. Both Aussies, mind you, but I can't help wanting to support them. I have The Devils on audio pre-order. 💜
My list is shadows upon time, Red God, Empires of Dust, Twelve Months (dresden files), Strength of the Few, and last but not least whatever the hell Sanderson comes out with lol. Also doing all of The Wandering Inn. Realm of the Elderlings as well , but only 3 books into that

The book I'm looking forward to in 2025 that already has a release date is Queen Demon (sequel to Witch King which I LOVED in 2023). The books I'm looking forward to that don't have release dates but MIGHT come out next year are the 3rd book in the Dark Heir series by Pacat, the 3rd Empire of the Vampire book by Kristoff, and The Strength of the Few by Islington. Love your lists!
@@Talking_Story - YES! If Vampire #3 comes out, like last time I'm marking it in my calendar and blocking out my calendar to get some deep reading time in!
Next year will be the year of Tad Williams, Robin Hobb, and a dash of old school sword of sorcery for me (and some nonfiction mixed in but that doesn’t sound as fun)
Not new releases, but a few titles I look forward to reading next year: Book of the Long Sun (Gene Wolfe) Stress of Her Regard (Tim Powers) Gormenghast trilogy (Mervyn Peake) Windup Girl (Paolo Baccigalupi) Silk Road (Jeanne Larsen) Beluthahachi (Andy Duncan) At least one thing by Le Guin
@ it had better be. I’m finally recovering from the burnout of finishing my dissertation and reading is starting to be much more pleasurable than it’s been the past few years.
My list is very last minute, I'm starting Brandon Sanderson Mistbourne series, I was recently gifted A discovery of Witches trilogy, I plan on Robin Hobb Assassins trilogy, Empire of the Vampire, Jay Kristoff made the list last night, then spaces for whatever the hubby bought me for Christmas...and who knows what else..
@Talking_Story glad its not just me who blanks on names lol 😆 i ended up googling it, book 1 is called Embers of War, by Gareth Powell. So yeah, I'll be reading that at some point too!
Next year is shaping out to be amazing. I think the only other one I have my eyes on is The Strength of the Few by James Islington. I don’t think that has an exact date yet either.
Jakob = If “managing expectations” was a person. He should judge everyone’s TBR goals and make them reevaluate their ability to accomplish them LOL. I’m really looking forward to Cahill, Ruocchio, and Brown (if Red God is released) but I think it’s more likely to come out in 2026. Hopefully there will be some unanticipated releases as well in 2025 that I’ll get to read. In any case, good luck on all those chonkers next year!
I was fine with the latest Holly. I enjoy her as a character, especially since I picture Justine Lupe while reading. She played that spot-on in the show. Anyways, Like you said, not my favoritest... but a good read. Twenty years from now the kids will have fun looking back at Č̣OV!D life. With that said, I'm looking forward to Never Flinch.
@@alynam82 I enjoyed it and feel sometimes till the artists catalog times like that we have a hard time processing. So I was down with him taking a crack at that role.
Jakob needs to learn Naruto's shadow clone jutsu to have enough time to read all the books John wants him to read :D Come to think of it, John may need to learn it too :D Jakob, you're not alone. I've had Tainted Cup since it came out and I still haven't cracked it open. Would it be rude of me to read The Devils next just to annoy John by reading it before it comes out? :D FYI - that sticky note has BEEN on there for at least two videos now :D Good list y'all.
For me: «Doom of Destiny» (Sundered Nation #3) by Vaughn Roycroft (Epic/Historical Fantasy inspirert by the Historical Ancient Goths and the Rohirrim of Tolkien, with a dash of «Dune») «Written in the Dark» by Guy Gavriel Kay (Fantasy inspired by Medieval France)
I only got a couple of books I'm looking forward to so far in 2025. Cold Iron task (book 3 in the unorthodox chronicles) by James J Butcher and Judge of world by Daniel Abraham. Might come more later though.
@@Talking_Story Oh I am excited alright! Cold Iron task will scratch my Dresden itch and I can't wait to find out what Abraham has in store with the last book in the Kithamar trilogy. I have no idea who we will follow in this last instalment.
@@Talking_Story Cixin Liu. I guess you have the first book already? At least you watched the Netflix show. That I know, because you once discussed it on a book haul video ;-) 1) Three Body Problem 2) The Dark Forest 3) Death's End 4) The Redemption of Time (just an addon to the main trilogy)
@@Talking_Story YES! Can't wait. Tbh it's hard to tell if you're going to like it. It is not a character driven story, but more like a grand (*very* grand) sci-fi story, seen through human eyes.
So I have a list but I'm not sure if I'll complete it in 2025. I might finish books 1 and 2 of some of the series but I don't think I'll have the time to 100% complete everything. I'll be hitting: The Bloodsworn trilogy by John Gwynne The Five Warrior Angles trilogy by Simon and Schuster's Saga Press, Brian Lee Durfee The Age of Madness trilogy by Joe Abercrombie Brandon Sanderson's Cosmere GUNMETAL GODS by Zamil Akhtar and The Matthew Corbett series by Robert McCammon. Ambitious but I'll try my best. And thanks, John, for sharing your list. It got me motivated to make and attempt my own.
That is a huge list if you add in patreon reads and the like... How can you handle it all? I think this next year I will finish up Dungeon Crawler Carl, that is my goal, well... On top of that secret project your family has yet to release. I can't wait and it is my top pick.

@Talking_Story I’ve only read Empire, lol. As soon as I move into my new place and we get all of our stuff, I’ll be set to get through the rest of the series.
@ So I’ve heard. I liked Empire overall but was a little lukewarm on it, and I forgot to mention I also read Lesser Devil, which was pretty good. Very excited for Howling Dark. 🤘🏻
Grady hendrix frustrated my so much because he's got awesome concepts and I love the art design on all of them but every time I pick up one of his books I either DNF it or am disappointed by the end. Maybe I still haven't tried the "right" ones but at this point I don't think I ever will.
How come no one’s talking about how excited they are for Winds of Winter or Door of Stone? Ohh, right… Optimistically excited for Strength of the Few and Thorn of Emberlain. But as long as there’s The Devils it will be a great 2025
Of Empire and Dust is my newsly demoted #2 most anticipated book of next year. Only demoted because out of nowhere I heard the news today that Glenn Cook is coming out with a new Black Company book next year. Lies Weeping
Finishing up Howling Dark then straight into Demon in White - for 2025, really looking forward to the Green Bone trilogy, finishing first Mistborn trilogy, the second and third 3 Body Problem books, and the Tainted Cup sequel - that’s about all i can handle! Happy holidays!

@@michelleizoco I still have to pick up Will of the Many. If that third Vampire book hits I am there day 1!
@@Talking_Story - YES! If Vampire #3 comes out, like last time I'm marking it in my calendar and blocking out my calendar to get some deep reading time in!
@@michelleizoco oh yes!!
Next year will be the year of Tad Williams, Robin Hobb, and a dash of old school sword of sorcery for me (and some nonfiction mixed in but that doesn’t sound as fun)
@@brandon8667 sounds like a great year even the non fiction part
hoping to get into the sun eater series this coming year heard nothing but good things about it can't wait to get into it
@@jakewood2998 can’t wait to hear how it hits for you!
Great video guys
Thanks brother!
Not new releases, but a few titles I look forward to reading next year:
Book of the Long Sun (Gene Wolfe)
Stress of Her Regard (Tim Powers)
Gormenghast trilogy (Mervyn Peake)
Windup Girl (Paolo Baccigalupi)
Silk Road (Jeanne Larsen)
Beluthahachi (Andy Duncan)
At least one thing by Le Guin
Wow those are some big names on that list. You will have an awesome year!
@ it had better be. I’m finally recovering from the burnout of finishing my dissertation and reading is starting to be much more pleasurable than it’s been the past few years.
@@paulwilliams6913 oh man congrats on the finish line!
I love the stuffed Chull. I’m hoping to be caught up in time for Of Empires and Dust as well as Shadows Upon Time.
@@kingzzz6509 Mr Pooh almost stole that chull. He loooooved it!
@@Talking_Story Haha 🤣
Gotta be Judge of Dreams (Kithamar 3), No Life Forsaken (Witness 2), The Devils by Joe Abercrombie and Written on the Dark by Guy Gavriel Kay for me.
@@thatsci-firogue can’t believe I missed GGK!
My top 4 would be
The Devils
Shadows Upon Time
The next book in the Kings of the Wyld series
and Anji Kills a King (a debut from a book influencer!)
Going off the beaten path with that last 1 I love it!
@@WDTRH that’s a great list!!
@Talking_Story i have a scifi trilogy to add in as well but the name currently escapes me 🙈
@ 😂happens to me all the time
@Talking_Story glad its not just me who blanks on names lol 😆 i ended up googling it, book 1 is called Embers of War, by Gareth Powell. So yeah, I'll be reading that at some point too!
@ most definitely not just you😂
Next year is shaping out to be amazing. I think the only other one I have my eyes on is The Strength of the Few by James Islington. I don’t think that has an exact date yet either.
Wow that series is getting so much love!
@@KindlesandKicks that kid is a realist
The one I’m most excited for is Twelve Months, the 18th book of The Dresden Files written by Jim Butcher
Cmon if that comes out all things stop for me!!
Way longer than 2 videos😂
For me:
«Doom of Destiny» (Sundered Nation #3) by Vaughn Roycroft (Epic/Historical Fantasy inspirert by the Historical Ancient Goths and the Rohirrim of Tolkien, with a dash of «Dune»)
«Written in the Dark» by Guy Gavriel Kay (Fantasy inspired by Medieval France)
@@MacScarfield yes!! I missed GGK. I want that 1 badly!
I only got a couple of books I'm looking forward to so far in 2025. Cold Iron task (book 3 in the unorthodox chronicles) by James J Butcher and Judge of world by Daniel Abraham. Might come more later though.
@@emzstern doesn’t matter how long the list as long as you are excited
@@Talking_Story Oh I am excited alright! Cold Iron task will scratch my Dresden itch and I can't wait to find out what Abraham has in store with the last book in the Kithamar trilogy. I have no idea who we will follow in this last instalment.
@ I do have the first 2 Kithamar books
The cover of black fire blade is awesome also I really love that title.
Those covers are stunning!

Before even watching it: John, you gotta read the Trisolaris trilogy. Love you two! ❤
@@edelkebap I will check that out. Give me the author name.
@@Talking_Story Cixin Liu. I guess you have the first book already? At least you watched the Netflix show. That I know, because you once discussed it on a book haul video ;-)
1) Three Body Problem
2) The Dark Forest
3) Death's End
4) The Redemption of Time (just an addon to the main trilogy)
@@edelkebap ahhh I am getting all 3 from my broken binding sub
@@Talking_Story YES! Can't wait. Tbh it's hard to tell if you're going to like it. It is not a character driven story, but more like a grand (*very* grand) sci-fi story, seen through human eyes.
@@edelkebap excited to see how it hits me
So I have a list but I'm not sure if I'll complete it in 2025. I might finish books 1 and 2 of some of the series but I don't think I'll have the time to 100% complete everything.
I'll be hitting:
The Bloodsworn trilogy by John Gwynne
The Five Warrior Angles trilogy by Simon and Schuster's Saga Press, Brian Lee Durfee
The Age of Madness trilogy by Joe Abercrombie
Brandon Sanderson's Cosmere
GUNMETAL GODS by Zamil Akhtar
and The Matthew Corbett series by Robert McCammon.
Ambitious but I'll try my best. And thanks, John, for sharing your list. It got me motivated to make and attempt my own.
Finishing is not the thing. It is the art and ideas you will take in from these writers in the journey. Have an amazing 25 my friend!!
That sticker has been there awhile! I commented awhile back when I noticed it. I figured it was Jakob 😂
Nope that was allll Amy😂
That is a huge list if you add in patreon reads and the like... How can you handle it all?
