Please, PLEASE read Fullmetal Alchemist. It has all the amazing aspects of most shonen anime but with a level of character depth and plot that many lack. Hiromu Arakawa is a genius. I think I'm putting Junji Ito on my 2025 TBR. This is a very, very impressive haul. I also loved Station Eleven and that special edition is so so lovely. I hope Jakob loves reading it! My birthday was at the end of November sooooo I had a pretty serious haul. The ones I'm most excited to mention are: Private Rites by Julia Armfield, The Brothers Karamazov by Dostoyevsky, River East River West by Aubrey Lescure, Naples 1343 by Feniello, as well as a mess of art history books and a few books in Chinese (I'm kicking my language study into high gear through 2025). I also sat down and wrote out my complete 2025 TBR priority list... let's see how much I deviate from it 🤣 Have a great time at the con!!!
Black Wind is in the Prime Audible Catalog for those feeling frisky for a free listen... Man, I've only watched Full Metal Alchemist, such a good anime. There is one scene that still devasts me from just hearing like a 2 second sound byte. Such a phenomenally well done anime and imagine the manga is just as impactful.
I watched this days ago but hadn't commented yet. Long ago I heard Mike's Book Reviews say on a haul that he appreciates GenX letters, and I knew you would be the same. I used to write them all the time to faraway friends until the early 2000s. Writing Mike made me realize how much I missed it. There really is nothing like putting pen to paper and going for it. You can't really erase it, and I kind of feel they are best when it is ranty and less legible. I am glad to maybe give you a smile or a laugh and let you know more about me by writing you something other than a public comment on your channel. I just watched the first 20 minutes of your new video with 2 to Ramble and I never dropped my smile. Expect a package with some gifts to you and your family to be arriving before Christmas, hopefully pretty soon, with another letter(s) for you and your family to go with the gifts. Thank you for your channel. You always bring a smile. I try to do the same however I can, whenever as well.
John, thank you. I swear I did not even get the chance to get when you pulled out my book and people were already texting and calling me about it. It was a tad overwhelming. 😅 While it is my first book and I still have a long path ahead, I hope the gift is as inspiring as your talk about it. Thanks to this single video three of my friends have decided to pick up a few of the books you mentioned today, and for that I am forever grateful. Sharing the amazing fun of stories means the world to me. Please continue to do the amazing things you do. Do we need to secretly get together and do a Jakob book haul one month and just send him books? 🤔🤫
Your passion, gratitude and joy just radiates through the screen and is so contagious, I love it!! You could technically read Rooker Flynn before Black Jack, but I think you'd be doing yourself a disservice. Andy is such a great storyteller, so much heart! Hope you are having the best time at Dragonsteel, cheers 🥰
Those three Josiah Bancroft novels are on my 2025 TBR. My current read is the new novel by Haruki Murakami, enjoying it so far. Latest book haul is a bunch of books ordered from a Cyber Monday sale from NYRB Books. Still waiting for the box to arrive.
Hope you guys are having a blast at Dragonsteel! Didn't have a huge haul from November myself. The 7 books I showed off on town square and I've bought some books for my fiance for Christmas. Waiting for my son to get a bit bigger so when can get him started with books too!
Great Haul! I also got a copy of Station Eleven in November not nearly as nice looking as that amazing Broken Binding cover but i'm looking forward to reading it!
So I got a few books delivered to me in November, those being The Will of the Many deluxe edition, Dawnshard, and a nonfiction book. My other orders have not come in or were delivered in December, and I think I'll wait to share a nice book haul after Christmas. I also thought of grabbing Station Eleven from TBB but it did not make the cut unfortunately. What a great haul John! Hoping you guys have the best time at Dragonsteel!
Such an interesting timing! 😅 I just got my box of seven books: 1-3. Farseer trilogy, 4-5. The Shadow of the Gods & The Hunger of the Gods, 6. Hyperion and 7. Red Rising Excited to see yours!
On Amazon UK it doesn't even seem that Black Wind has anything to do with horror when you read the page for the kindle book. The only thing that kinda clues you in is a blurb by Ramsey Campbell (who should need no introduction to the horror fan).
John and Jakob! Gantz is a great manga for people who love horror and aliens and ghost and game play. So much character depth and so much to love! Highly recommend and can't wait to hear reviews!
Several friends of mine recommended ruins of ivy so I have started it. I am not very far but it is really good so far and I am excited to see where it goes.
I will be happy if you like my novellas. Great selection of books you bought and received. As always the video is fun, especially with the letters you received. People have forgotten what postage stamps look like on a letter. :) 👍
Great haul! I hope you find some new favorites in there. I read Uzumaki a good 15 years ago and I still think about it consistently. I have a terrible memory, so that's a big deal 😂
So happy the books got to you safe and sound! Hope you and Jakob are having a great time in Dragonsteel! Btw, I'm not the one recommending Senlin Ascends on your Patreon but whoever is is doing the Lord's work 😄
Hey J&J! I do have a little Christmas gift coming your way, but I'm going to send it next week when I know y'all will be back from Dragonsteel. I hope you both have a wonderful trip!
Hey so I’m looking for suggestions for christmas and I was wondering what is the best monthly subscription where they will send you a new book every month?
Yes, «MS&T»! 🙌 My own November Haul: The final two novels in Mary Gentle’s «The Book of Ash» series (90s Alt-History Military Fiction), «The Wild Machines» & «Lost Burgundy», as well as a Hardback Edition of Tolkien’s «The Fall of Numenor», Matthew Harffy’s «Forest of Foes» (Historical Fiction set in Anglo Saxon Britain), «The Lion & the Sword» by Roberta Cray (90s Fantasy inspired by Alexander the Great’s Conquest of Greece: Something of a hidden gem going by the few, but very enthusiastic reviews I found of it, anyway, I just saw that glorious cover by the lauded Tolkien Illustrator John Howe, and just had to have it!😄).and «The Women of Troy» by Pat Barker (retelling of the aftermath of the Iliad from the perspective of Briseis, the «War Bride» of Achilles)! Cheers!
"Ash: A Secret History" was a single big book in the UK (even in paperback) - it was only split up for the US. It is really one long novel - not really a series.
The new AI Synchronisation is so funny. To hear you guys in my language (Gernan) is pure comedy. But it also sounds very unreal. I had to change this settings to Original Audio, since it is came out a couple of days ago, everytime.
