About 2 years ago, I gave myself this challenge. I cut up my credit card and paid off the balance but kept my account open, thinking I'd restart using credit after 30 days. Well, that 30 days turned into 6 months which turned into 1 year that I was NOT using credit cards and doing strictly debt/cash transactions. At the year mark, I called the credit card company to close my account and found it HYSTERICAL that the guy still used the "but you're going to be missing out on all the free points/cash back you could be earning" logic after I told him 3 times that I was not using the account AT ALL. Life without credit is pretty cool -- as long as I stick to the budget. 😜😜😜

It doesn’t work with automatic deductions but if I go to Walmart and try to buy something, it will decline if I don’t have the money to cover it. I use a credit card for security reasons (gas, internet, places I can’t see my debit card 100% of times ) not points, I was victim of debit card fraud once, that’s all it took. My monthly cc is accounted for before I get the bill because like a debit or check the charge is deducted from the account ( in my ledger)when it’s made. Never made a lot of money but I own a home with no mortgage, two cars less than 2 years old with no payment, retired with income far exceeding my expenses. A credit card hasn’t been the gloom and doom end of my life, I know what I need and what I can spend no matter how I choose to pay for it, it’s called being an adult.

I enjoy using my card. I pay it off monthly and I get paid rewards to use it every month.
