Used Squirt for years. Also used Rock and Road gold with great results. Both are top notch. 18000 miles on my chain. Have recently (one year) gone to the DIY wax and my drivetrain has never been so clean and quiet. I was cleaning my chain once a week and re-applying lube anyways. Simpler to dunk the chain in the molten wax, hang to cool and put back on the bike. I might change my mind in the future, but for now, I'm really liking the DIY wax method. Paraffin wax and PTFE powder BTW

I did hot wax method a few times, went to squirt to try out after seeing allcthe test by other bike maintenance channels and lube test videos. I will never use another chain lube other the Squirt. It is hands down the best by a country mile!!!! I take chain off bike once a month and do the cleaning process to get back to bare metal, dry, install chain, apply 1 thick coat of Squirt, let dry then a smaller amount as a second coat. Drive train is in perfect condition and not 1 sliver of corrosion or noise at all. Love the product.

I like Squirt lube too but I always apply it on the inside loop of the chain. After application, spin the chain to distribute the lube into the links by centrifugal force. Let it dry for at least half an hour before ride.

Trying to decide which lube to use on a cross Canada ride this coming summer. I did a 9 day tour last summer about 1350 km using prolink gold which is great lube but not being able to fully degrease the chain was a problem. The chain wore faster than I would liked and of course was covered in black grinding paste. This summer I'll be going 5000 km and need to come up with a better plan. I'm thinking of using squirt and applying sparingly as you have demonstrated every 1 to 2 days. I like the fact I can wipe off the dirt without degreasing. So my question is do you think it would worth the much higher cost to purchase the silca super secret or will I get the same performance from squirt that you're using. I can get squirt at MEC right now for $15 CAN for 120 ml. Btw thanks for a straightforward no bull video. Obviously as a cycling tourer I can't be hot waxing every week with my camp stove!

Hello Scott! Wow you have some great summers I wish I could join you 😂 yes immersive waxing wouldn’t work for you. I would say trying the Silca lube before your trip would tell you a lot about it’s performance. I’ve had good luck with Squirt. It keeps my drivetrain quite clean so I know it would work if you reapplied it every 300k-400K depending on rain and dirt conditions.
Please report back I’d like to know what you used and how it performed for you

Its wrong to lube the chain on the top side because it is just a dirt catch. Lube your chain on the inner side which has contact to the chainring and pinions and let it sit over night. I can recommend liqui moly chain lube and muc off dry and wet lube.

Hello I am mainly a road rider. Unfortunately, wax lube isn't the best for wet muddy conditions. A wet lube is better suited for those conditions. I always need to be reminded that people in other parts of the country/world ride in the rain or ride MTB's. We are so spoiled in Southern California we don't ride in the rain lol! LONGEVITY RESULTS
We tested eight of the lubes for longevity, simulat- ing a single dirty, wet ride and testing efficiency before and after. Each of the eight was chosen as a representative of a certain lube type. For the most part, four of the eight, representing greases, wax- based drip lubes, regular oils, and biodegradeable oils, were all very similar, losing about 2 watts over the hour-long test.
Once again, the old technology of paraffin wax vanquished all comers. In the longevity test, it was completely unperturbed by water, sand, and dirt; in fact, it was over 0.5 watts faster after being run for an hour in the grime. We believe that the wax needs to bed in a bit for maximum efficiency. And, since nothing really sticks to it, the goop was simply shed before it could slow anything down. The only other lube to increase efficiency after the dousing and dirtying was Park Tool’s CL-1.
Squirt is a phenomenal alternative, though. It, too, is very clean, though not quite as clean as paraffin. Once the water in the solution dries it picks up very little dirt. The kicker, though, is that it can be applied like any other drip lube. No more crock pots, no more potential for flamma- ble paraffin fumes. Ease of use and incredible efficiency: Squirt really is the whole package. It’s not great in wet weather, but on dry days only Speed Wax will be faster.

@SeeYouUpTheRoad completely wrong advice anywhere you got dirt and dust you want to be using away based lube preferably mersive wax as the dirt and dust won't stick on contact like a wet lube which turns your lube into a grinding paste which will kill the life of your chain.

Then I’ll use an air compressor and blow out all the moisture. Then I dunk the chain in an alcohol bath. Once that is dry I apply Squirt. I hope this helps. Do you take your chain off and clean it or just clean it on your bike. I myself perfect to take my off to clean it. So going to all the trouble of that it's just as easy to wax it. Just hot wax nothing more just wax and much easier to clean the next time I relube the chain 😎

Hello Kevin! Thank you for taking the time to post a comment. This is a great question. I don't usually take my chain off to clean it. Shimano is very clear that their quick links are for ONE use only. KMC is not as strict but they sell reusable quick links so you can remove and reinstall their chains. I use either Shimano or KMC on my bikes. I use the Muc-Off X-3 chain cleaning tool.
      www.revendurancesports.com/muc-off-muc-off-x-3-chain-cleaning-tool.html
It is much faster than cleaning the chain off the bike. But I should mention that chains just don't last me that long with all the climbing on steep ass grades in my area. So to me, and this is just for me I wish to be clear on this, it is too much of a hassle to be taking the chain on and off, dunking it in wax, and all that other stuff. Also I live and ride in Southern California we don't ride in the rain or mud. Even when we gravel everything thing is dry and dusty. So far this year I have 870,000 feet of climbing and only 7,600 miles -- lots of steep grades and I avoid flat terrain like the plague :-)

Squirt is like toothpaste coming out of the jar. The best way to ensure it gets into the rollers and plates where you want it, to go is to have it off the bike and clean. Lay it down on a flat surface then Pour the lube on to the chain and work it in with a toothbrush, let dry then install.

Your fave lube is about $80 per liter based on quick online look. IMHO wax is wax, whether it drips out of a squeeze bottle or sits in a crock pot ready to burn down your garage or shop. For $15 you can buy a liter of Mobil 1 SHC 75/90 oil.
Yeah, your hands might get dirtier but are clean hands worth the extra money? Mobil 1 works fine for me, I keep wondering why none of these testing outfits will test it...maybe because there's no profit to be made vs selling expensive, specialty "snake-oil/wax" products?

Out of curiosity, if gear oil is good enough for you, why bother with Mobil 1 when you can buy Walmart Supertech for a fraction of the price?
Regardless, tests have shown that while there is indeed a lot of snake oil sales going on with bicycle chain lube, wax is in fact a better lube choice, not because it keeps your hands clean, but because there is less wear to the drivetrain.

Your chain is dirty. The problem with squirt (and other wax bottle lubes) is it doesn't get into the links. You have to keep reapplying it or suffer the squeaking sound. I also found squirt became sticky after a while so it attracted some of the black stuff like on your chain. So long story short.... go the hot wax method. It gives a better result.

Hello Dan thank you for your comment. My chain has hundreds upon hundreds of miles on it and it is much cleaner than that same amount of miles on typical non wax lubes. I will stick with Squirt for myself and my customer base. None of my customers will ever take the time to do hot wax on their bikes and nor will I. A high percentage of my customer base are women with high end bikes, careers and kids the last thing they want to deal with is bike maintenance. Additionally, I would rather be riding my bike than dealing with a hot wax which was the point of the video. Lastly, Squirt has tested better than or equal to the hot wax products.
