    After 40yrs in the trade, I'm always surprised how people buy Range Rovers and are mostly completely okay with the fact they more often than not come with expensive faults from the get go, you're actually enthusiastic, happy, and excited with your new purchase, even smiling when you say " the parcel shelf is snapped, the heated seat dosen't work, and most importantly it has a transmission fault occasionally ! .....show me any other vehicle where this is not only acceptable, but people will part with I'm guessing, five or six thousand pounds for the privilege, yet they do, including me ........ Enjoy !

      Most of them don’t have any more issues than other equivalent cars. As always the minority with a bad experience are the most vocal.

    • @Broomehall
      @Broomehall 2 роки тому +4

      @@trainman665 I beg to differ, having sold at least 40 + examples in my lifetime, I truly can't think of another 4x4 that has the same faults over almost an entire production history ? Multiple Gearbox Failure, Suspension, Turbo's, Head Gaskets, Water Ingress destroying Sat Nav / Media module in its lower boot floor location, I could go on and mention multiple reverse cameras, rear wiper motors, drivers seat collapse on outer edge resulting in alloy seat trim breaking or cracking apart, door modules and steering lock blah de blah de blah ....... BUT ..... that's not to say I don't love them because I do, but they DO suffer fon multiple, and repeated failures, just look through the classifieds online and you will be spoilt for choice for " Spares or Repairs" examples, it's a fact I'm afraid, so no, unless you've owned or sold more than me and know different I can't agree.

      They only have issues if they don’t get maintained .. gearbox oil change is the main neglect .
      I had a 2003 4.4.. got it for a tow vehicle, had 104,000 on it took it to 125k and never had an issue never serviced it just ran it most days without fault

    As others have said - gearbox serviced and then keep on top of all fluids as they tend to eat their own turbos…… lovely motor though. I had a TD6 one and my mate then got a TDV8 and it was always much nicer than mine!

    Fantastic engine I've had two 3.6 v8 diesels very reliable engine that I have never had any problems with at all...The only problem I had with these is the inter coolent hoses at the top part of the engine seem to rub and cause a hole that puts it into limp mode, that the only problem I've had in 6 years ....Great off road no effort need at all up steep inclined muddy slopes and pulling a caravan same again up hills on motorways.......

  • @AlexLR
    @AlexLR 2 роки тому +11

    Nice choice, same as mine! When you said you get fault codes for the gearbox it made me worry a bit, normally quite far past just a service at that point. What are the codes you're getting? If it's anything to do with unexpected gear ratios or input/output shaft speed you're in trouble and probably the reason it was such a 'good' price. Hopefully it's something simple though! I've got quite familiar with these gearboxes and happy to help if you need it.

    Give the 3.6 a new air filter and an oil change asap as I get upto 30mpg from my 59plate 3.6tdv8 Westminster.
    Also, the 3.6tdv8 doesn't suffer the clogging of EGR valves the 4.4tdv8 does as the twin turbos work together, not separately.
    However, if you have any loss of turbo power. Stop straight away or you can do a lot of damage to the main block.

    Owned rangies since the 90’s starting with 94 4.6, 2000 4.6, 2004 4.4, 2008 3.6 like yours….then gave up in 2012 and went 4.2tdv8 Touareg (now in a current Touareg tdv6). Loved rangies, and to be honest would prefer one over the dubbie any day…but the older I got the less inclined I was to put up with niggly faults that would reappear time and time again. As great as these cars are, and they are great, I just wish they had got adults to bolt them together and make them last.
    Hope yours is great and you love it…i def miss mine, but not the hassles I’m afraid

    I have the 3.6 and love mine. Service it regularly and it will be fine. Parcel shelf is an easy fix. Gearbox take it to OFG in Lincoln who will flush it for you. Heated seat could be the painful one to fix. Looking forward to seeing the content on the L322

    Hi Joel, good choice, great cars. Sadly the heated driver's seat is a common problem and will most likely be the over-temp sensor on the peltier heat module in the driver's seat back. The only practical option is to replace the whole fan assembly, which isn't very complicated or difficult. It will cost ~£300 though!

    Congrats to your purchase! Most amazing car you can buy for money! Forget about all the BMW engines in earlier L322, specially the 3.0 TD6 was a very bad engine. Weak and noisy is all I remember from test driving. You can literally not buying any better luxury car on the planet than this L322 TDV8 from 2006 onwards. Make sure you going for a well mentained well known taken care of car with full spec and service history and you will buy a big smile in your face every time you step into your Range Rover ☺️. Safe another 5k for repairs every three years which you will need for sure, but again, luxury never comes cheap. It's worth every penny for a luxury motoring soul! Regards from Austria!

    Best of luck with the new RR. Hopefully within the next year or so I will also purchase a L322. My last Rangey was an ‘F’ reg yes old!! 3.5 V8 Vogue petrol. So it’s been a while since I’ve had another but looking forward to it and have now subscribed. 👍

    Massively approve, great spec too. I bought one of these for £3k, had it for 6 months and sold on for £4k (de-chavved!) Best car i've ever owned and i've had some nice bits. Want another!
    In terms of the gearbox it's probably been said, but get it flushed. Mine felt like it was knackered, shunting through gears and throwing faults - got it flushed by Bodsy and it was good as new.

    Houston USA. They get terrible reliability reviews here, made by different factories / different parts ? Is there a difference between UK and USA cars ?

    We sell repair kits for the heated/cooled seats. Also the rears in yours are heated only.

      That’s interesting, where can I buy the kit and is it something a dummy like me would be able to do? And RE the rear seats I’ve realised that now!

      @@itsjoel PowerfulUK did a video taking the back part of the seat off. (Although it was heated seat only, similar seat) Once you remove the back you will see the plastic ducting that is part of the heated/cooled system. They split and causes the Peltier cell to burn out. We sell a replacement ducting and new cell which can be fitted to your existing fan unit.
      In rare cases the seat base unit fails but usually it is the seat back.
